I think he refers to qw (quakewars) in which case nobody will know until it’s released, or at least until either they release specs or someone with a lot of hardware get’s their hands on a beta. Quake4 I assume is the best guideline game for QuakeWars performance right now, since it shares the engine, but obviously there’s been different tinkering between the two games and (for example) QW will be playing with more players in bigger spaces.

That said a 7900GT and 4000+ is a good system even by enthusiast gamer standards so I’d be surprised if you couldnt get a smooth game with settings on the high side.

Just to ramble on and read too much into it, it’s interesting to note the question is about “max graphics” settings when nobody is certain what those are. I remember DOOM3 and to a lesser extent Far Cry releases when there was a lot of people on tech boards whining on and being pretty bitter that their top end enthusiast, overclocked systems couldnt handle the absolute max settings. The only reason they couldnt was the game let you take settings so high, there would actually have been less complaining if they’d limited the product and just took out the highest settings, renaming the next step down as the max.

afaik, qw is based on d3 engine

(SCDS_reyalP) #5

based on being the important part of that statement. ET is based on Q3, but the the system requirements are quite different.

you guys are completely missing his point.
he saw it only 3 days ago and wants to play it at max settings.
I think the best advice we can give him is that he needs to get a copy of Wolf ET, learn to enjoy it and then post some insightful questions, such as redheads or blondes? or perchance brunettes?

(ParanoiD) #7

I’d go for the blonde!

Anyways you are missing the point I guess. he is referring to “qw” being Quake Wars. So he cant test this with just W:ET altough he really shoulds get a copy (Ill send u one for only €10,- hehe). A AMD Athlon 64 4000+ and 7900GT should be good enough to run the newest games on high without problem so ET:QW won’t be a problem as well. I’d recommend to get Quake4 (demo if it is there) put it on the graphics details and resolution you want to play ET:QW with and see if you get enough FPS. It is said ET:QW will have the same system requirements as Doom3, Quake4 is teh same engine but a bit havier, so if you can run that good enough (60 FPS+ would be nice for multiplayer) you can be 80% sure ET:QW will as well.

BTW Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is free to download (full version) dont forget to get patch 2.60 and ofcourse etpro (bani.anime.net/etpro)

I think that jipron’s point was that smoke999 seems to want maxed out graphics, thus he would have no respect for gameplay. Therefore jipron advised him to play W:ET to see how important gameplay really is. (Or that’s what I think he meant.)

@ParanoiD: Most players would ask for “can I run it” rather then “can I have all graphical goodies”. If he asked the first question, your post would be completely right.

The answers doesn’t matter anyway since we have no clue what system specs this game needs. As I’ve said before, wait and see, why do you need this info 5-6 months before release? If you need to save money for a new pc, then do that, if it’s old you’re going to need a new one soon anyway etc etc.

(AnarchyAngel) #10

They have already stated several times if you can play q4 you can play ET QW, trust me smokey with that comp you will have no problem running it with high settings.

(DarkangelUK) #11

I think people make these threads just to show off their specs. Seriously, that’s like more or less top end stuff you have there, meaning you specifically chose that, knowing it was the latest gear out… knowing fine well it can run anything that’s thrown at it. So really, even if we said no it won’t run it… what could you do about it?!

But, to answer your question on whether your PC will run a game that’s not out for atleast 4 months and no one on here has played on their own system, and the only version ever played by anyone was an unoptimised alpha/beta… how the &@#% should we know??

/end rant… for now

kamikazee == right.
