Vehicles and Choke Points (objectives)

The whole ‘realism’ argument is really getting on my nerves. My suggestion to Splash Damage is this. Offer two different versions of the game.

Version one will be the stock game.

Version two will be the realism game.

In version two after your very first death your CD key gets deactivated and you need to go out and pay 50 bucks for a new game. That’s as close as you can get to realism.

Sounds fun don’t it?

Has anyone really said they wanted a realistic game? The whole strogg-thing really spoils that aspect, don’t you think?

(I3LiP) #63

TO be perfectly honest. At the end of the day it all depends on how well they balance it.

I like to think that the strogg will be imba and that all GDF will be crybabies. "oh no the stroggs are invading our planet buhu, balance teams plz!!11, we dont have any plazma laz0rz"etcetc.

Forget making games more like the real thing, we should make the real thing more like games. I want XP shuffle without restart in all future wars! Can we get a UN resolution?

what use would that be?

I honestly didn’t expect that my post would have caused so much confusion. Just this one more time I’ll try to clarify what I wanted to say.

The problem is that vehicles are to powerful when compared to infantry. Developers decided to solve this problem by (amongst other things) enableing infantry to destroy vehicles by useing regular(ordinary) machine guns.

With respect to the developers ideas, in my opinion (and I’m shure that most of you agree) this is unrealistic. Of course if there is no other way of sorting things out I will gladly accept this if it will help balance the game. However, I would perfer it if we could find another solution which would fix the balance between vehicles and infantry AND at the same time be realistc - this is what I tryed to disscus. And btw that doesn’t make my post complaining but constructive criticism.

Edit: typo

And right there you are wrong…

People who have no problems with defibrillator healing bullet wounds, wheels popping out of thin air and a whole team of stroggified humans won’t find damaging ALIEN vehicles with FUTURISTIC weapons unrealistic… :nag:

:cyclops:

:cyclops:[/quote]You misunderstood it again, read the context.
It IS unrealistic because “enabling infantry to destroy vehicles by using regular(ordinary) machine guns” is impossible for heavier vehicles.

What I’m not saying is that I actually want it realistic, whilst he does.

Exactly. As i already said even tho medic recover ppl from fatal wounds in seconds and engies build bridges from nothing in real life medic DO heal ppl and engneeres DO build bridges but machine guns DO NOT destroy tanks. Even though this appears to be only a small thing the problem is it has no basis in real life (in rl ordinary small calibar light weight portable mgs dont destroy tanks). The point is that (imo) it is going to bother a lot players when the game comes out (including me). And thats the main reason why I want it to be changed.

As for the whole Strogg thing being unreal - yes, all of the players will be aweare that a race like Strogg has nothing to with real life but the whole Strogg part of the story is fiction it is not supposed to have anything to do with real life. On the other hand GDF and especialy their equipment ARE supposed to be based on modern real life military equipment and thats is why I expect a certain amount of realism from them.

Just imagine that, in Enemy Territory (in WW2) , you could stop a german tank with a Thompson. Would it bother you then?

(Ifurita) #71

Personally, it would bother me a whole lot more being camped by a tank I can’t damage because our heavy weapons guys forgot to bring the rocket launcher.

Ever play BF2 where your pilot sucks and their pilot just spends the game strafing and bombing the crap out of you without much you can do - not so fun.

Gameplay > Reality for me any day

(Desoxy) #72

Actually no, if you read my earlier post I stated that we have alien technology here. And if you take for instance Stargate, where the replicators are invulnerable to laser beams and stuff, but very easily destroyable by conventional human weaponry, damaging Strogg vehicle with regular mg as well as damaging earth-made tanks with lacerators or hyperblasters, which aren’t ‘regular mgs’.

So all I’m saying is that mgs damaging Strogg vehicles and lacerators damaging GDF vehicles is NOT unrealistic necessarily because of the futuristic scenario…

(madness) #73

It’s not like you could take down a tank with a single machine gun clip…I think.
Just do some damage and if everyone is focusing fire on it (machine guns, rockets etc) it’s gone faster than with using only rockets!
