vehicle controls?

Yeah, not only air vehicles but even ground vehicles… ONS for me is still the best example of vehicles that fit into the gameplay, without being overpowered. All because you could damage vehicles with normal weapons. Avrils could rape any air vehicle quite easily… it made their use more strategic than just using the same vehicle one entie match to rape dozen of poor wheelless infantry soldiers.

And I agree on the controls. Flying ONS vehicles was quite easy, but of course because they didn’t try to mimic difficult machines like helicopters but rather simply have vehicles that hovered and would move in the direction you wanted, plus up and down. It was a game for FPS players, not for flight simulation players who could barely aim an infantry weapon.

But if the air controls are too similar to infantry controls, there won’t be a distinction between infantry and helo combat. It will just be “flying infantry with better armour”. There should be a major distinction.

Simple controls but with different physics seems enough destinction to me, with the possiblility to do rolls and loops etc. Never liked the setup of many other games that tries to make flying wehicles the “elite” part of the game. Total domination with hard to fly controls where when you master it your more or less invincible.

Uh? Why should there be a major distinction? Just to say the controls are different? Just to have 10 more “pages” of stuff to bind?

Vehicles serve different purposes as their weaknesses and features are different. They don’t have to invert controls to some totally wicked scheme just because it’s not an infantry. Control must carry as much as possible for the game experience to be smooth… it doesn’t need to create problems where there are none.

This doesn’t mean the vehicles must all move like infantry. It can have whatever features come with it, like doing barrel rolls or whatever they can do. But I don’t see why control must have a “major distinction” more than just keys for the additional controls. It’s nothing like infantry.

Good point. So long as I can fly with the joystick I’ll be happy, but I don’t think UT2K4s raptor controls are suitable, because IMO they are not “serious” enough for QW. Aircraft control needs more depth and finesse.

SD described air vehicles as “easy to learn, hard to master”, so the controls will be pretty simple, allowing everybody access to air vehicles, but it will nevertheless take some time until you truely become decisively better at stearing them.
Joysticks will most likely be supported, but probably wont have many advantages over the keyboard (you wont need all your 20+ buttons and extra controls on your fly-sim joystick)

Oh dear, all those thousands of pounds on comissioning a bespoke replica of an F-15 cockpit, all to waste.

Those jets seen in the trailer, are they pilotable, or just called in off the map for bombing runs?

AI controlled, they carry out the Air Strike called in by the FieldOps

Ahso, splendid. That makes planecamping a non-issue.
