Vassili the poor bastard

(Daergar) #21

On the flipside, I enjoy playing offensive-minded Vassy and making people accuse me of cheating.

The concept of placing a crosshair over the correct pixels and pressing m1 must certainly look like magic to bottom-half of the player pool, at least if the outrage is anything to go by.

Though that’s nothing new, been like that since Q3’s railgun. Yet the same people accept Sparks, simply because she hides under a cloak labeled medic.
I main Vassilis and I score pretty high in most games dropping 30+ kills per objective game that lasts pretty long. I hate people who immediately looks me down and say that we don’t need a Vassili. But at the same time I love it. It gives me a challenge. I go tryhard and topscore everyone and actually help my team with heartbeat sensors then they stfu.

The other team suspects me of being a Vassili idiot (prob not sometimes since I’m lvl 18) so I’m able to bodyshot them from a distance and run up to them and jumpshot the 2nd time and take them out. Because people think Vassili players are idiots, they think I’m hacking which annoys me (and flatters me).
I hardly ever see a lvl15+ Vassili that sucks. You get to know the game by then and most people know if playing sniper is something a) they like and b) they are decent with him.

So hats off to you and many other good Vassili players that allow me to PTFO knowing that someone has my back or make me afraid of crossing any open space, depending on which team they are.

I agree, that’s why I stay quiet unless my team has more than 2.

He does get a lot of hate but it really depends. If the game has been going for 6-7 minutes and you and other team mates are on 7000-8000 score while the Vasilli on your team is sitting on 600-800 score not throwing his nade and missing all his shots with a 1/15 K/D, then yeah it’s frustrating and understandable people want to kick him.

What’s even worse is like @MarsRover said, when you have fricken 2-3 Vasilli’s who have literally no clue what the hell they are doing. I swear Vasilli is like the moth to a flame combo for noobs on Dirty Bomb. Probably just wanting to 420blazeithowdoIquickscopeguys. LIke seriously. On Bridge for instance, and you’re attacking, and you have 3 snipers on your team sitting back on your side of the spawn. Like what the actual hell. How dumb can some people be. They’re not even in a position to get kills nevermind back up their team mates or help protect their team mates while they are trying to do work on the EV.

It’s just situational, but 90% of the time there is too much plebbery involved with Vasilli, so he’s generally kicked if the guy using him is a total tard.

I personally just feel like he doesn’t have enough health or something. The snipers feel like they have weird rego to me aswell tbh. I take out more Vasillis with Sparks than I do enemies when I an Vasilli. Maybe it’s just me but I can’t aim the sniper in Dirty Bomb to save myself. His heartbeat sensor is handy if thrown in proper locations though.
Vasilli has plenty of Health, he just lacks a reason to stick close to the team when his weapon is built for long range.

He needs the Dreiss or Grandeur for this exact reason, and @adroitYouth the Grandeur is considered a Sniper Rifle, even in the Red Eye role call.
Oh man, I would love playing Vassili with Dreiss/Grandeur. Heartbeat sensor is such a cool ability. But even if Vas got 3/6 additional loadouts with them it wouldn’t help with the newbie problem because they would still use sniper rifles to be tru pro snipah.

I got Dickens MO22, I didn’t want it but I have it, so in the EU servers… there will be a level 30+ getting kicked out of pubs for general incompetence.

As for Vasilli, to me it has reached a point where I even tell the opposing team to change their mercenaries if they have more than one useless Vasilli. (Being useless is the general default here.)

Interestingly, of all the nasty things I have said about Vasilli, this line has worked best to make people change their mercs to something more useful and more interesting game:

 • "Vasilli as a mercenary is like a jar of vaseline, it makes it nice and smooth for the opponent.’

There will be that one guy who refuses to switch, but the others tend to switch to medics, engineers, muscle, or explosives. The matches get far more interesting, objectives are played, and people rank up with their score.

.

As for Sparks, she can at least revive. (You know, be a proper medic.)

(Drac0rion) #24

I like Vassili, he’s currently my most played merc and I don’t really mind if people try to learn him, but at a certain limit, because having 3 players practicing a merc they’ve probably never touched is not too fun for your teamplay.

I think Vassili gets a lot more hate than Phantom, because he’s cheap and popular and in most cases he stays extremely far back, while Phantom is your potential meatshield and a real annoyance to the enemy when some crazy stealthed kamikaze ninja runs into a group of enemies with just a katana, at least Phantom’s a distraction while Vassili of that skill can just be ignored in most cases.

Even I get a bit hackusatey if I see people doing cod nonsense, its because we are so used to not even seeing a vasilli and just hearing the odd pot shot here and there coming from somewhere near the back of the map xD.

(streetwiseSailboat) #26

That’s why Red Eye exists. Unless you want the HBS over the Goggles.

(ImSploosh) #27

Even noobs can play Vassili if they learn to just aim their sights toward objectives or gibbing downed players. On some maps, you can essentially block a team from defusing the C4 as a Vassili if you place the C4 right. Also, gibbing those downed players does wonders to help a team believe it or not.

I really hate when people try to vote-kick someone just because they’re practicing. Where the hell are they suppose to practice? It can’t be done offline.

(Borganism) #28

I’m a bad vasilli but Ive been playing him a bit over the last few days for a bit of variation. I managed to hold one of the doorways at the last building on bridge all by my self and strongly help the defence. Even a bad vasilli can be useful if he is played right.

The trouble is, lately Ive seen so many players have no idea of where to go, or how to play their class. Medics that run over the top of downed players, ammo classes that dont throw ammo even when you are empty. My personal ‘favourite’ is the red-eyes that smoke choke points or objectives and then dont use goggles to highlight the enemy.

Unfortunately, until the tutorials get better (and people actually use them) then we will have to deal with this. Just give people helpful and non-aggresive tips to how to play and hope for the best.

(KorpKyuuSama) #29

The rules to start using Vassili: For noobies.

_Be the only Vassili in you team. The Vassili with less level or score is a kick target.
_Spam the motion sensor. This help the team a lot.
_Be aware!! If there is a Vassili in the enemy team, Counter-snipe first. Even if you don’t kill him, you must keep him busy, this way all team will feel less pressure.

Follow this rules (less kicks)and you will have time to train. Soon you will be the one carrying your team from the back line.

(DMaster2) #30

I usually don’t see complaint in my team when i play with Vas (and i play a lot with him, 175 hours out of the 400 total in the game), even the few times they bitch about it i shut their mouth ingame. Not that i’m good or anything, but decent enough to help the team through.

(SpinnerzNQ) #31

I generally hate having Vassili’s on offense (especially when we don’t have any medics, and our terrible sniper has a medic in his/her squad), but if we get a good sniper on offense I’m usually fine with it. But when we have TWO on our team (offense or defense) I pretty much rip my hair out. I just wish people weren’t so stubborn that they can’t switch from useless trashballs snipers, to someone useful like a Skyhammer or Aura (because they inevitably will have at least one of those two in there squad). I remember when like a level 7 sniper was on my team I told him to stop because he was really really bad. And like any CoD sucker, he said “better than you’ve ever been” I guess he didn’t see that I was a level 24 because he just kept arguing with me about it. It seems like Vassilis gain the biggest ego once they scope down that MOA, because when you say they shouldn’t play Vassili because they’re pretty much useless, they just go into defense mode and try to act like they’re the best sniper in DB because they got that one headshot.
This is why I say that Vas shouldn’t be 30k because he’s usually the first merc any noob buys (including me), and they pretty much forget any idea of team play for the longest time and just stop playing cuz they’d rather play CoD. If they made Vassili 50k it would encourage people to buy other mercs and do more objective team play.

(Captain_Forward) #32

He should cost more indeed. I suggest 120000 credits.

(Guilte) #33

Vassili is a lot of fun to play, it just most people don’t know how to play him.

(RyePanda) #34

Nah, should be 4201337 credits.

(HunterAssassin5) #35

what the fuck.

Got this

and this

and

Something wants me to play Vassili. Vote kick ahead…

ps: thanks again… RNG… -.-

(Faraleth) #37

@Incoming +1 to this.

(MTLMortis) #38

If he’s tossing his detectors out in front of our moving objective train then I have no problems. Don’t even care if he doesn’t even get 1 kill.

Sitting around being a selfish lone wolf, that’s a vote kicking.

(N8o) #39

Heartbeat sensors wins games.
Nuff said.
