Vassili hate

(Pyjama_Slam) #1

Is it me or is the amount of unreasonable hate against Vassili players over the top? I get it that this character is less expensive and thus favored by new players. But that is no reason to kick a person who just joined the game and didn’t even walk out of the spawn area.

Players don’t seem to care that this guy who plays Vassili is pushing for the objective, helping team members, or is carrying the whole team. Just because he plays Vassili he has to get kickvoted out of the game.

I often join mid-game with a obvious gap between my score and the other team members. I’m a decent player so I still can get the top score if i’ll play the game like its supposed to (go for the objective, help team members, get kills, and killstreaks, switch characters if sniping isn’t the way to go) but on my way up there is so much salt, enough to melt the North pole.

And once your team realizes you don’t suck and are useful to have around… the other team starts calling you out.

Being called out by the enemy team isn’t annoying me, and I couldn’t care less about my team either. but getting kicked out off a game without any reason is just plain annoying. luckily its not more than a vote and the guy who initiated it gets heat. but still… only because its Vassili.

Vas is one of those mercs that will always get hate because of how dead weight he is when played by newer players as opposed to say, a Skyhammer or Aura, who can still get kills with the team or, at the very least, support the team.

Average Vas player will just play at the back, rarely if ever use his heartbeat for the team, and simply won’t have the game sense to know how to use a sniper in this game.

Never been kicked for being good at him though, outside of the few times where my own team thought I was hacking.

when i was still at level 10-20 i kept whining about how useless a vasilli is.
then i tried to buy him

i felt very useless not because the merc, its because how hard to play a vasilli.
its not as easy as people think to do a snap shot from 400m away.

i have to be kicked by so many players because i was deedmed “useless”
i didnt know how to give up

i kept learning from other players, asking around the forum, watching Vasilli playstyle.
even after i get to level 30, im still only “decent” in sniping.

if your freund is angry because youre playing vasilli, you can change merc or if you dont want, keep playing vas

“but i will get kicked if i get bottom board!”

thats the noobie vasilli way of life. you cant imagine how many trashtalk i get in level 20 while still learning basics to play vasilli.

be proud of yourself comrade, in the end of the day, you will save your friends from many bad situation.

I doubt that you get kicked simply because you played Vassili and when you pushed the objective, helped the whole team or carried them. In my ~500 hrs I haven’t seen a Vassili kick for a Vassili who was useful. And I have seen Vassilis who are good. They are rare, and the majority of Vassilis is pure trash, but still, some good ones exist. People only tend to kick the low-scoreboard Vassili, cause you know, people aren’t dumb. They won’t randomly kick a player who is carrying them.

Vassili is a very useful merc if the heartbeat sensor is well placed, especially in defense. Even if you can’t headshot people at each shot, you can help your team and do enough damage to assist or kill with your team. You must just stay with your team. Vassili is not played in the right way by noobs, this is why people don’t like players who take vassili.
I remember of a game where a player in my team tried to kick me even if I topscored and we won at the end. He was telling others that I was AFK, even if I answered in the chat and make sure everyone in the team saw that he was just a Dick. People like him are Dick. When I see someone has trouble with vassili and is low level, I encourage him to try an other merc, and if he’s good, I just let him play.
The only problem is when there are 2 or more vassili in a 6v6 game. 1 is good, more is not the best choice. And often when I say this in the chat, everyone but the best change their merc and it’s a good game without salt and rage.

Vassili shouldn’t do the objective really.
Vassili’s job is to give your team wallhack, kill enemies (mostly strong ones with a lot of health like Fragger) and he’s best at defending the objective (planted C4, kill people pushing/repairing the EV and all that stuff). He should rarely (if ever) deliver or do anything like this, he is a defensive combat merc with wallhack.
People who kick Vassilis are just bad and don’t realize that a good sniper can actually very useful and helpful. And kicking a Vassili for being bad (if the player is bad) is votekick abuse, if you kick bad Vassilis you should also kick bad Naders and bad Auras, and if you kick people who are bad they can’t improve at the game

(Jostabeere) #7

@FrostyVampire A bad Nader od a bad Aura is still levels above a bad Vassili.

To be honest I’ve never seen a single person in my entire year playing Dirty Bomb hate on an aggressive Vassili who uses their heartbeat sensor in a way that benefits the team, so I’d need to see evidence of this happening before I could even agree it’s a thing.

I do however see people hate on Vassili’s who camp their own spawn, never using their sensor, happily just sitting there for no apparent reason going for nothing but headshots. They do nothing for their team, they don’t cover their team mates, they don’t even attempt to cover the objective, they’re just dead weight in game.

Even when I was a brand spanking new level 5 I knew the latter was a silly idea. It has nothing to do with being new at the game, it is all to do with not being a total dipstick and having just the slightest bit of common sense. I would always try and push forward and be first in line placing my heartbeat sensor closer to the enemies spawn so my team knew where they were coming from. Hey, I’m not even a smart player, tbh I’m one of the best “all aim no brain” type of players, but even I could figure this one out. Honestly, the more I play, the more I don’t blame people who have no tolerance for new passive Vassili’s.
Vassili shouldn’t do the objective really.
Everyone should do the objective, there’s no reason for Vassili not to get the objective. If no one is on it, you’re the one who has to do it. If you have a machine pistol secondary, even more reason to do it since you have a pretty good secondary to defend yourself if necessary.

Vassili gets a lot of hate because people who aren’t good at aiming choose him because snipers are overpopular in almost every FPS. The problem is that he doesn’t contribute a whole lot if the player isn’t skilled. His weapon requires precision, and his heartbeat sensor rarely gets used. If it does, it gets thrown in places like the floor of your spawn.

Like @LifeupOmega said, mercs like Skyhammer and Aura are much more rewarding for players with low skill while a Vassili isn’t and has a high skill bar. Aura just has to put down a health station wherever she wants and she’ll get points for helping the team. Skyhammer, while a lot of them tend not to throw out ammo sadly, they can throw their airstrikes and get some lucky kills and whatnot, although I’d really prefer that they learn that ammo is important too -.-

i find this quite funny, because i am almost always top scoring as vassili. u feel like i could do better with stoker for example, but i just want to play vassili, and its funny because that toxic dick is almost always at the bottom

just ignore them or make some fun of them

(Herr_Hanz) #11

Vassili is very usefull for pushing obj’s, as he can oneshot defenders/quickly take out a healing station from range

(bgyoshi) #12

I’ve literally seen teams with Vassili’s that go topkek 45/2 and straight up outscore the opposing team, and lose the game. More than once. He’s just not useful. Heartbeat sensors are beyond easy to find, I personally don’t think I’ve ever had a hard time finding them. Problem is, if you don’t see it be thrown and you can’t see it, then it’s tucked in a corner. This mentality has had a 100% success rate at removing the sensors. If only there was a heartbeat sensor that also tagged enemies to take more damage…

Vassili can’t capture the obj and he can’t generate forward momentum. All he can do it sit back and plink heads, and anyone that’s played games (like TF2) where twitch fire mid-range snipers dominate, knows how to counter fight mid-range snipers. It’s not hard. There’s probably more billionaires in America than there are Vassili who can consistently take down every corner jumping/bunny hopping/aimpunching merc that comes at them while still moving forward. It just doesn’t happen. The slot he takes would be better served by any assault, medic, or engineer class, who can actually control multiple attackers at once, heal/res teammates, or complete objectives at 3x speed.

(pumpkinmeerkat) #13

Bad players are just bad.

Casual matchmaking and community servers will make it easier to avoid them in the future. It’s possible to NOT help the team playing as any merc. Vassili is a common and easy target to blame for a loss.

(HunterAssassin5) #14

all the salt about vassie, but then you have aimee and redeye, usually equally useless. they should just ramp up vassie’s price tag to 50k because he’s so hard to play and requires some serious skill and experience.

(LifeupOmega) #15

Nah, we all get pretty salty over any useless recon to be fair.

(Supersneaky) #16

A good vas can pin down the enemy team, that buys valuable time. That’s only one of many reasons vasilli can be effective at.

(Sorotia) #17

Hell…I almost NEVER see useless Vassili kicked, much less useful ones.

(Herr_Hanz) #18

ive seen some votes for vassilis in my team getting kicked. never for me though. i always pressed f2 so they have a chance to learn the game instead of get kicked.

and snipers can do OBJ. a more laid back sniper can kill enemys camping at chokepoints, giving assault mercs less targets to worry about. if you are an agressive vassili like me though, you cap obj, and push the obj. i requently find myself recapping/protecting the flag in terminal, and i’ m usually the first to push to the rock position on chapel’ s last obj.

there are too many rotten apples to find the shiny ones.

(ImSploosh) #19

Actually getting kicked rarely happens, but having people start a vote kick is fairly common. Some people just don’t want anyone playing Vassili I guess. I feel like these people see the threads on the forum or just hear other people talking shit about Vassili and immediately think that he has no use in this game. What’s incredible is that those same people will say Vassili is really easy to use and it’s extremely easy to snipe in this game (even going as far as comparing it to other games like CoD).

Occasionally I have people try to kick me while playing Vassili when I’m on top of the scoreboard with 2k-3k more points than them or because they feel like I should save them every time they rush in on the last point of Chapel while everyone on the opposite team is still alive. I’ve never actually been kicked of course, but people do rage about a Vassili player, even when he/she is on top of the scoreboard and carrying their team.

Finally, you have those times where you just join a game with Vassili as your first merc, and before you even start playing, there will be someone complaining about having a Vassili and that’s why they’re losing… Yet you have 0 points and just joined. LOL.

(SnakekillerX) #20

May have been said already (I didn’t feel like reading every post here)…

The issue with Vassili is not that he is a sniper, and its not even really because some people can’t aim… The real problem is that often someone playing as Vassili will just sit waaaaaay in the back nearly from spawn and try to shoot at pixels across the map. Sure they could get a kill here and there… but most of the map you’ll just see them waiting for that split second opening where an enemy crosses a path, and then they miss because it happens so rarely that they aren’t ready for it. These are the Sniper players I get annoyed with… the same is true for any merc however doing this.

If they were to at least push up and be in the battle from time to time then they would at least be distracting the enemy and drawing some of the fire, which would also draw some attention away from your team allowing them to do the objective, or get a flank on that enemy.

Also… as everyone knows already knows, they should also throw their damn sensor somewhere helpful, which often they are too far away to do.
