That is the server admins doing, nothing to do with PB. Unless your GUID isn’t actuually new.
Valid CDkey not reaching ?
I’ve tried that in the past, but it didn’t help.

If that doesn’t fix it, it is most likely the actual connection to the guidauth server causing the problem, rather than the DNS lookup.

Clarification: I had tried adding etguidath to my hosts file, but not all the entries in my previous post. Now I have added them all, and haven’t seen the problem again (fingers crossed), so it may be the total time of all the DNS requests that is the problem.
It’s a bit awkward (to say the least) to have to either ping 8 servers or keep the hosts file updated though, and I guess I’ll have to wait a couple of weeks to be able to say with some certainty that it’s working.
Note that with the PB server version 1.160 update, the occurence of the error should be much reduced anyway, so it might not make much sense to muck around with your hosts file now.
The servers I play haven’t auto-updated to the latest version yet, so it still takes 3 minutes.
However, it appears that the hosts file doen’t help at all anyway (got it again).

ERROR: Valid Cdkey is not reaching GuidAuth Server
If I change etguidauth to another IP I can’t connect at all (stuck at Awaiting connection), so it does use the hosts file.
Now where does that leave the “Failed to resolve” messages?. :banghead:
Seems like it’s fixed for me, aint seen the cdkey error for a few days now. o/
I have noticed the “failed to resolve” spam in the console though, not sure what’s going on there.
FWIW, I’m getting the “failed to resolve etguidauth…” message in the console as well, even though Ethereal shows it resolves just fine (and the subsequent connect to the game server goes without a hitch as well). It might therefore just be a UI bug, possibly.
Sauron add this to your hostfile:
pbguidauth.idsoftware.com -> 192.246.40.62
For some reason both subdomains point to this IP.
I know, but there’s no DNS request sent for that domain so it won’t make a difference.
Argh it’s not fixed, the server I have been playing on recently must have disabled cdkey checking or something.
I have a dream that one day ET will be a smooth and bug free experience.
There is a new version of pebweb.exe. Version 2.2
I had the old version installed and it wasn’t doing any updates.(just getting errors)
Also, Norton was blocking the pbweb.exe.
After correcting those problems. I don’t have any pb errors, anymore.
And yes, it was for a fresh install of ET.

Version 1.202 of the PB Client for ET has been released to our PB Master Servers for auto-update and to our website download page. This is a maintenance release.
This is supposed to fix the GUID problem according to Tony Ray, so anyone that still gets it should make sure PB is up to date and (if it is) report the problem to Evenbalance.
(I haven’t seen the problem myself for almost two weeks, though I got it pretty much every day before that… :P)
This is great. Haven’t been playing for a while and had my first games for weeks tonight. No errors at all. Well played!
