About half of the time when I try to join a server, I get this, SD, can you please help me and tell me what to do?
Valid CDKey Not Reaching Guid Auth Server???What!?
Or try:
Disable and enable Punkbuster, either in the menu or take down the console and type: cl_punkbuster 0, restart ET, take down console again and type: cl_punkbuster 1. Punkbuster should have generated a new key for you now!

i had the same problem last night and tonight also.Heres what worked for me:
i managed to get to a server today afternoon and play normally (ie i got a etkey in the etmain folder.I immediately copied this key (backup) in case something wrong happened again (and it did tonight as yesterday night).
What i observed was this. When tonight et was connecting and pb was checking the key, for some reason it deleted it!!So i was without a key and i got kicked from the servers.
But, having the backup from before i restored the key to its proper place (‘etmain’ folder). Then the same thing happened. So i re-restored the key once more and made it READ-ONLY as some peeps suggested in similar posts.Till now it worked very fine, as pb checks the key and finds it ok
so the trick i guess is the readonly option activated
pb is so (@&$()&) :bump:
This never happens when I connect to a server from within the game, only when using ASE. I looked in my console, at it seems that it must resolve the ET master server (“Resolving etmaster.idsoftware.com”). Maybe connecting through ASE doesn’t give it time to do this.
I think this program will fix it for routers: http://www.purenetworks.com/products/portmagic/ .
After I installed it, I got the error once, but I hadn’t allowed the port request yet. I haven’t gotten the error message since. I’ll keep you posted.
I made my cdkey file read only but also get this problem sometimes, type \pb_myguid next time it happens, and itshould tell u your cd key and guid which it does with me, then just reconnect after a few recon attempts it should work, but as I say It only happens occasionally.
Alot of us have been having trouble with a “valid cdkey not reaching guidauth server” error. It seems it’s a setting in ASE that is causing it. Go to: view, options, network, and look for “max packs per sec” and change the value to 115. Now I’m sure with internet connections being different, this value might not work for all connections but I have 1.5/128 and it works fine. At least it’s a place to start.
don’t think its an ASE problem but a PB problem, basically your connecting to the server before pb has sent you a valid auth and the server is looking for the auth and having a fit.
try typing
/pb_cdkeyreg
in console and wait for it to say its written a cdkey auth file in your et folder, if it says invalid response retype the above command. Me and a few clan mates were getting this a load a few days ago, i don’t think pb realised how popular ET would be and hadn’t assigned anough server power and were having probs sending out all the auths that were required. Haven’t had any probs recently tho so looks like they fixed it.
I had this same problem today, it was sooo bad, i couldnt even connect to one server!
Ill try ur suggestions, and see if they work.

Yeah, is it just me or is Punkbuster grossly ineffective in every game they design it for? I couldn’t connect to any servers with PB on Soldier of Fortune 2 and now this…
I use ASE and this has never happened to me. Must be Punkbuster. Imagine my suprise.
:banghead: :disgust:
This is STILL happening to me.
My friend suggested playing w/o Punkbuster, and that would work, except all the low ping servers seem to be running PB. I’ve seemingly tried all the solutions mentioned (read-only, disable/enable, /pb_cdkeyreg) to no avail. I’m bummed!
Any other ideas???
