UT4 Trickjumping

(tokamak) #1

UT4’s wall jumps are being tested in this video and it looks fascinating. The player seems to enjoy an enormous amount of air control and yet still requires to ‘aim’ towards the right points in order pull off the right moves.

Makes me dizzy!

Seems very much like the old Quake 3 Arena

Give me the air control from Painkiller, the smooth crouch/longjump from HL1, heavily reduced slide mechanic from Q4, and fine tune the walljumps we have now.

(Mustang) #5

Looks like he’s just using dodge jump, no thanks, not a fan, I’d much prefer standard strafe/crosshair air control.

(Rex) #6

Looks like a sack of potatoes which desperately tries to strafe.

(Glottis-3D) #7

dodge jumps are not smooth

CPMA quake air control ftw!

i don’t think this would work in DB, they would need to increase hitbox size, etc something to accommodate.

DB’s last hope is regular strafe jumping like ETQW, which only gives a slight speed increase, it doesnt increase over time. it had a nice balance.
instead DB has negative strafe jumping, diminishing returns on the 3rd jump. you slow down

but increase air control in DB would be nice. DB has stick figure movement otherwise, unless you force yourself to light mercs

random video of urban terror

What’s that? Trickjumping in DB?

(DarkangelUK) #10

Its quite clumbsy and actually frustrating to watch, I prefer fluid Q3 over stop/start/judder UT

(BomBaKlaK) #11

Same over here

(Bangtastic) #12

and I want the hover jump plox!

(abnorm) #13

The id Tech 3 movement is still the best, id Tech 4 movement in Quakewars was pretty good, too. To sad that SD give a f*** to the roots and said good bye to strafe/circle jumps. That makes DB even worse.

movement in COD Advanced Warfare looks interesting, I would consider playing it as a PC game, the other COD’s I couldn’t. also faster gameplay

if you played a match the movement is defiantly more fluid, the video is exaggerating it
idk if you were talking about Unreal Tournament or Urban Terror (both UT)

Of course he is talking about Unreal, Urban Terror has some great movement, strafejump, walljump, mantle, I’m not a fan of skating/skiing or stamina though, and it is lacking rampjump IIRC.

The movement is ok (nothing great)

But make no mistake - his is the biggest sh it- turd of a game I can remember playing in recent years. By far the worst COD of the past few installments.

I played for 5 days and uninstalled. It felt like someone robbed $65 on me…

I played a lot of the Unreals, the movement was anything but fluid. I didn’t play Urban Terror.

I like the part where he goes prone! But apart from just one guy making really high jumps I failed to spot any other mechanics.

(Mustang) #20

They have double jump, hover and mantle.
