Using wolfenstein as a project?

(system) #1

Right, i have tried this before and it lead to some business of copyright, and yes i would like to step back and think, i see wolfenstein is open source, so i can change the pak’s features and so on, in the idea i would like to make it a bit more mordern and maybe make some new things into it, but i understand that what i done before could be well right copyright… time to think, what would i need to do to keep this game well the new Project i want to build and uncopyrighted game, if i put a folder named source in the main folder with the source files, would this stop copyright? right now i just have the basic etmain, and am looking to change some features, well textures, (removed the basic maps), sounds and skins, but if anyone could help me, how can i keep it clean from copyright and able to download for others? GPL license i kinda readed but any help would be great. yes i want to do this the proper way, and make something clean of copyright:)

Mod it, offer it for download on your server, done. As long as you don’t conduct any business involving profits in the form of money you are fine. GPL licence i wouldn’t care for when you just modify textures or sounds.

hmm i was kinda looking at not the mod, but like making it more like standalone, like true combat elite uses et files but is its own game if you get me, so there are no enemy territory files, just the engine? and the files pack i making?

(Dragonji) #4

The assets are not licensed under GPL (only the game source code is) so distributing original paks with games other than W:ET is illegal.

(system) #5

So that means i can only make it a mod, ah i see so i will just make this a mod-

(Micha) #6

thunderpwn is modding a modern mod. Maybe you can help him

(Mateos) #7

ETXReaL had to remake each texture IIRC to be “standalone”? One of the reasons for which it has been halted?

So better make a mod, or help for existing ones, as pointed Micha
