Update has made it so I can't play... (now I can)

(ImSploosh) #1

The lag is the main issue. There’s huge FPS drops, stuttering, and it’s just unstable. Then there’s also the issue with input lag (?) I guess. Not sure what it is, but it’s making the whole feel of the game very odd. The aiming is off and it appears like I’m dying from 1-2 bullets. Not sure how to explain it. The game just doesn’t feel right. I know others are experiencing it too. I wish there was a better way to describe it.

So does anyone else have any information on this, like what exactly is going on? There were also a few pointless changes like blurring the gameplay when looking at the scoreboard (really dislike this one). The maps look a little prettier, but it wasn’t worth it in my opinion. I don’t want to quit Dirty Bomb because it is my favorite game, but not really being able to play right now sucks. It’s just no fun like this.

All I know is for me and many others BlackCipher is the main cause of lag, or atleast we suspect it is since it shows that it is chewing up the CPU when we all get the huge frame drops.

The input lag is another thing though. My mouse has felt off since this update and it’s 100% input lag, but even when the FPS drops aren’t happening. I can be locked in at 180fps and still have input lag.

I’ve never had input lag in DB before, so it’s driving me crazy. I want to know the answer as well, because I’ve kind of reverted back to OW until someone comes up with a fix. DB is my favourite game but it just isn’t worth playing right now. Dying because your mouse doesn’t respond to your input just drags all the fun out of the game.

Forgot to mention BlackCipher in my original post. I’ve seen multiple people mention it now. However, that lag is still playable for me. I can deal with the frustrating FPS drops and such.

The “input lag” is causing a world of issues. The entire game feels unresponsive, clunky, and just off. It’s not like it’s just happening every once in a while, it’s a constant thing. I just wanted to make a post to see if anyone had any sort of answers to this. If it doesn’t get fixed, or a solution isn’t found, I’d like to see the game reverted to before the update… just my opinion though. If not, I simply can’t play. :frowning:

(doxjq) #4

I hear ya dude, many people are complaining about it. More than they probably realise because well, most of them don’t even have an account here and can’t be bothered making one.

The input lag is permanent, and it’s frustrating me too, which is why I am not playing unless I have to right now.

Played with two friends yesterday.

For two of us (me included) DB ran smoother then ever and no imput lag what so ever.

The third of us had huge problems with performance and he played worse then ever so he might have had those imput lag problems too.

(His Laptop is not that good so maybe that’s a reason for these problems? For people with good rigs the update helped and for people with bad rigs it got worse?)

I dont think that is true. I already saw people stating that the game got better for weaker rigs and worse for better rigs

Well it was my best guess. Now I’m clueless ¯_(--)

once again an update that proves that sd barely even tests their patches, game is unplayable and starts stuttering in almost every fight…

(bontsa) #10

While sure SD has had major bugs slipped in the live build in the past, they’ve hotfixed them when cause has been found, or outright postponed the update and overall that’s getting less frequent. They need to keep honing their testing protocols for sure.

Still, how about you taking look at the discussion around elsewhere than just the threads you want to see yourself; it looks like Nexon’s anticheat solution is major cause of issues. So it doesn’t anymore fall into category of SD not testing their patch enough, but possibly crappy AC. Or AC not implemented fully in their test builds, which again might be either SD’s or Nexon’s fault.

But of course its easier to shout from the bushes without any real information on how much and what kind of testing is done on their builds.

PS. You all have a dotphilia or something? I’m baffled by the over-usage of this lame rhetoric tool as of late.

“All I know is for me and many others BlackCipher is the main cause of lag, or atleast we suspect it is since it shows that it is chewing up the CPU when we all get the huge frame drops.”

@bontsa that’s the main issue, to bad for you that ngs is taking up 2,5% of my cpu, I don’t see how something as small as this should be causing major stuttering in every fight, nor do I think that it even is anticheat related since part of the stuttering dissapeared when I downloaded an updated config.

My rig is pretty good for DB so that’s not the issue. I don’t have a potato like some people playing. I’ve always been able to run DB on mostly high settings at 80+ FPS until recently (but changing the settings doesn’t change the issues I’ve mentioned).

My rig:
CPU: AMD FX6300
GPU: AMD R9 280
Memory: 8 GB 1866 RAM
Mobo: MSI 970 Gaming

(SnakekillerX) #13

I run a pretty high end PC as well, and I noticed only improvements. So something else is at play… not sure whats causing it but I hope it gets fixed for you guys soon.

It sucks not being able to play your favorite game. :disappointed:
Just keep sending those logs to SD and I’m sure they will get it straightened out.

Dumb question, but have you tried verifying your cache and deleting your config files? I am just curious if caching/config files might be having a play in this, and if not, at least it eliminates that possibility!

Also, is vsync turned off or on?

@RazielWarmonic i do everything but my frame still drops… we need help

Tried verifying my cache and v-sync was off, but I’ll check to see if it is on (I know sometimes people’s settings get switched after updates).

Also haven’t tried deleting my config files, but I’ll give it a go. I was thinking about just uninstalling and then reinstalling to see if it changes anything. I’ll post back here if I notice any changes.

EDIT: Dumber question: Which config files should I delete? The folder that says Config, or specific files? I’m just not really sure. I’ve done it before with other games, but I remember just deleting an entire folder.

@RazielWarmonic [/quote]

It is safe to delete them all, the game will repopulate them - your settings will just be reverted and you’ll have to redo them.

vsync OFF might help with input lag. You can force it off via the Nvidia Control Panel, unsure of what the equivalent is for Radeon cards.

(ImSploosh) #18

I just deleted my configs and started up the game. It seems like the input lag or whatever it’s called is gone. I’m not 100% sure. I’ll have to play some more, but the aiming and stuff feels better. My V-Sync is set to always off in AMD’s control center.

The graphical lag is still there though. Like the slow downs to 10 FPS. There’s also some stutters and small teleporting forward which is annoying, but I think the main issue is out of the way for me. After starting up the game, all of my settings were back to High like I originally had them over a year ago. Although my FPS wasn’t very stable because it would drop from over 100 to 30-60, it’s playing better than before so that’s good news.

There are some other problems that people have already mentioned like not being able to shoot, which showed up multiple times in one game for me. It can be solved simply by pressing Escape and then returning to the game.

Anyways, thanks Raziel! I appreciate it!

@sweetColumn If you even have a job, you can by all means come from your off-hours to do work related stuff, heck even salute and jump in the air whenever a customer asks you to for what I care. However not everyone has to, is expected to nor even SHOULD to.

On an on-topic note though, pretty sweet to see someone who has issues and gets them (even partly) sorted, actually thank for it for once. It’s a rare sight nowadays. I raise a hat for you @Sploosh
