Upcoming Hardware Upgrade What is currently the most important Factor for Extraction?

(fzl) #21

is it nessecary to upgrade system for a alpha/beta game?..

ok when you need performance for small money then try this

mainboard/cpu bundle kit i5 45xx k processor with msi board (300 euro www.mindfactory.com) and a middlegood nvidia card 660. 670 , 760 or something (140-200 euro)

intel quadcore atm the best choice …read benchmarks etc…

i think its better to wait for the closed and open beta to see the way of this game…choose your destiny…!

Figured I’d throw this out there since no one else mentioned it, the new AMD line of GPUs just came out last week (290x coming soon). There’s nothing really notable about the hardware since it’s mostly just re-branded 7000 series, but depending on budget they repositioned the price points so now the R9 280x (I think) is $50 more than the GTX 760 and easily outperforms it and is $100 less than the GTX 770 and is equivalent or slightly better. They don’t come with any games/bundles though. Hopefully this will cause some price drops/sales in either/both the GTX 700 and AMD 7000 series.

From what I’ve seen Haswell is a pointless upgrade in terms of gaming performance, I have zero cares for power efficiency, yea it might give lower temps and therefore a slight improvement to overclock performance, but I want raw performance gains from the architectural level, hope Skylake delivers.

Perhaps not mentioned in this thread, but Raviolay’s been going on about them for weeks.

and does he mention how absolutely abhorrent amd drivers are? i wont ever buy another ati product ever again in my life. The only thing that will change my mind is if ati being in most of the next gen consoles, makes devs spend more time catering to ati users

Thanks for your reply! Yep thats what I thought as well honestly, but nope unfortunately.
On BF3 I easily have a stable 125 fps but in this game it just jumps up and down. Anyone an idea what the problem could be? I’ve set everything on high, which shouldn’t be a problem…

Thanks in advance.

(Ruben0s) #26

7850 is a mid range card. It gets around 30 fps in bf3 with settings at ultra. 120 fps maybe with everything on low.

This game is still in alpha so it’s quite normal to get ****ty fps.

It’s also pointless to compare fps results in this stage of the game. You can complain about the results if drivers are released / game is in open beta.

And ignore the people that say that you should get 100+ fps. One person on this forum had sli gtx 690 and he also had drops under 100 fps.

Thanks for your addition information, Ruben

I actually thought my card was pretty highend (not meant to come over egoistic, but really…) i used to have 125 FPS on BF3 with pretty much everything on high settings (not ultra though). I even played FarCry3 with ultra settings and the FPS was kinda bearable.

But yep, we’re talking about an Alpha Game here. Not comparable with games released yet. And I really hope the required hardware for this game will drop a bit, because I paid pretty much for my GFX and I’m pretty sure not everyone is planning to buy a decent one.

PS. Seen the fact that you obviously know where you’re talking about, I still have a question for you if you don’t mind:

  • I used to have Catalyst Control Center 13.4 which was running fine actually, but then I found there was an update available (13.9) and I installed that one. Now my FPS on ET is jumping from 250 to 30 to 70. I removed the drivers again and my FPS was yet 250 stable again. Any idea what could be causing this? Maybe because ET is not designed for multi-cores? Thanks in advance.

(Ruben0s) #28

ET is mostly cpu dependend and uses a tiny bit of gpu and 1/4 of your cpu. What you describe could be because the gpu goes in to idle state because it doesn’t have to calculate enough. You could check this if you install software like msi afterburner and look at the clock speeds.

But this is just a guess. Same thing could happen with your cpu as well.

You could manually force the cpu and gpu to not clock back, but I’m not going to describe how because I don’t even know if that is the cause.

I would wait for good drivers.

There are already newer driver versions than the one you posted.

(dirtybomber) #29

i5 3470 @ 3.2ghz
8gb ram
gtx 660

playing on everything low 1920*1080 barely get 50-70 fps on 8v8 server.

(attack) #30

do you think it would be wise to wait for the new ati cards or the 7000 series
im pretty sure that i will get a 7950 but maybe waiting is better

Are we talking about ET or xt? Just wondering if its a typo or ment to be . :stuck_out_tongue:

Whats ur CPU Tankey?

– @ attack , yes the 7950 is definitly “cheap” and has a great performance. 3GB VRAM for under 200€

http://geizhals.at/de/powercolor-radeon-hd-7950-v2-ax7950-3gbd5-2dhv2-a830660.html

The only problem is about the drivers… thats why I am always asking :stuck_out_tongue: Even tho this is alpha/beta … buying an AMD GFX with low performance for xT would be a pain …

It would be nice to see if somebody has a both, and AMD + nvdia card at the same level @ home and can tell us what happens when he swaps the graphics card :open_mouth:

(Rex) #32

You shouldn’t worry about VRAM or RAM. 8GB should be more than enough.

Depends. The top models of the new series, R9 290 and R9 290x are new cards. The other models are rebrands of the 7*** series (they use the same chip).

I guess that the top models are out of your price range, so waiting wouldn’t make much sense imo. And right now the 7*** series get sold for cheap prices.

I myself bought a hd 7950 two weeks ago for €170 and I sold the games I got with the card for €30.

If you want a card from the Nvidia camp you could go for a gtx 760. Cheapest one here is 200 euro and that card is about 5% faster (depends on the game / resolution) than a hd 7950, but has better drivers (frame pacing etc).

(Hundopercent) #34

Black Friday and CyberMonday are right around the corner. I would wait for 3 weeks or so since huge sales should roll in.

(attack) #35

great tip ty

(n4ts) #36

Can you give me some dates, since I’m also busy on a new desktop

(Mustang) #37

Last weekend in November.

It’s traditional in USA/Canada, but recently some EU guys have been doing deals around the same time as well.

(attack) #38

i want to buy a new one too but in instalments .could be a problem with so many differnet parts

Thanks. I’m a little short for my €1200 build, so some % discount would be nice.

(attack) #40

1200 euro wow.:0
