unsportmen like conduct

(NightFlyer) #1

hey, i’'m a 38 year old guy just got this game, thought it would be fun to play. i play DOD and Battlefield 1942 as well. anyway to my point i got on your server tonight and there were some people on there that were quite rude including the admin. it was about the 4 th time i had played. still learning everything and i was kicked for “sucking” if this is the policy of your severs then i am surprised that anyone uses them. this shows a total lack of sportmanship and i’m glad none of you are over fighting for our country in iraq, since you’d probably leave your teamates to die cuz they “suck”. games are games but they do reflect on ones personality, don’t they.

Hey, you just had bad luck.
If I see people who are obviously lost or newbies, I help them. If they sort of signal that they are fine and don’t really want help at the moment, I leave them. I always try to help though.
Reload and forward!

ya as Loffy said just leave the server and find a better one, although if you really were quite bad and kept playing capture the flag with the land mines etc or kept teamkilling even by accident it can get quite annoying for some who have a series game but just join another server and you’ll soon get a good one

Wich server are you talking about :???: - do you have an IP address?.

On the “official” Splash Damage server newbies do not get kicked by admins and I doubt the players would callvote-kick new players on this server…
The Splash Damage server is supposed to be quite newbie-friendly

Iv been in servers where i got kicked for being a “Panza Whore” :frowning: i got like 250 on a 40min map of Fueldump. The best server out of all iv played on is Splashdamage Official! 217.158.151.16:27961 as salteh said newbies arnt kicked! In fact that are very welcome  and pretty much any one there is happy to teach you things!

Looks like you were dealt a rough hand Nightflyer, sorry to hear that you were given the boot for being “New” to the game. (Thats pretty lame). I feel sure that you have just fallen foul of the kidz, as most of the experienced guy’s, would probably offer advice and coaching.

Quite suprised that the admin gave you a rough shake tho’.

It’s a bitter pill but you will find plenty of servers that lack patience and manners.

Hope you find a more tolerant one soon.

Yes they are right you must not be talking about the official splash damage server. There is a Splash Damage server out there that isnt really from splash damage, ive seen one on COD called “splash damage cod v1.1” or something, so just be careful which server you are joining.

that’s for all the positive views and the advise, i’m not giving up on this game as i have a love for WWII games like this one. perhaps i did get on a bogus splash damage server. i’ll check the ip. this was late at night and they may have been kids. but thanks again for all the encouragement and postive comments about splash damage, i’ll give them another try.

Remember that anyone can call a vote to kick you, and if there’s no referee on that can cancel it and enough people vote Yes you will get kicked. :disgust:
This can happen on any server, but it won’t happen on the Splash Damage servers if there’s a ref or a few regulars on.

-No kick voting so you don’t have to worry about people going “kick him he’s a noob”.

-No tk complaint system so you don’t have to worry about people who just can’t grasp that in a 20 man fire fight… some times tk’s will happen, and in turn complain and get you kicked (our admins will boot people for tk’s that are done on purpose just to annoy if the person keeps doing it).

-No dickhead admins that will self-revive themselves/kick/ban players just for being new. I am very strict with our guys on not kicking new players. If I ever see one of our guys boot a player for being new/lost, that admin will lose rcon.

-Players are free to speak and play however they like (adult language is allowed, as are “cheap” tactics like spawn killing and /kills).

Our clan does not team stack, if the teams are very unbalanced myself and many of our guys will hop sides to even things out. One sided matches are fun for no one.

The bottom line is guy, not just this game but pretty much any game is going to have crappy admins. It’s been a trend that has gotten worse over the years as more and more “admin” mods come out that grant admin powers to people who would normally not be trusted with full rcon of a server.

My best advice is no matter how crappy of an experience you had on that server, remember this is a very large community and there are plenty of good servers out there that won’t be like the one you played on, so don’t give up before you even get started in this great game.

Try looking for some of the ND80 servers, they are run very well and get a very nice crowd of players.

Are you talking about the SD server? and what admin person are you talking about? Do you have logfiles? Check your console log?

Like already said, join a different server or just have patience. Only way to learn the game is to play it, and the dickheads is something you wont escape by changing server I believe. Almighty Bob added them to spice things up (was a mistake in my opinion ;)) Don’t let yourself be discouraged by a few less socially skilled people, but keep playing. =) And if you find it hard navigating the maps I suggest you fire up a server of your own, read up on all the different objectives and play through the maps a couple of times. Just remember that we’re all newbies at one point.

Cheers and a belated welcome to a great game.

I’m sorry to hear you had a bad experience on an ET server, but statements like this aren’t really acceptable on these forums.

Games only reflect ones personality within it if one lets there personality to be part of it. Most people Ive met/spoke to be it over TS, IRC, Email or MSN are completely different outside a game than IRL. You have to remember that different peoples personalities change within a game, especially if it say, someone who may take it more serious than others then it may result in it being stressful to them hence they may bitch, whine etc… others may be willing to /quit instead of talking back. I for one get more uptight in Pub Games than say a Clan Game as Pubs are much more harder to get a feeling of involement and enjoyment from.
[Quick Edit, typed Pub instead of Clan somewhere] :bored:
