Unofficial "Empty Server List" Fix

(dutchmeat) #201

Badman, after it’s been fixed again, for how many years do you think it will be up ? When will the plug be really pulled/ when will zenimax drop support for older games like these?

(OldMan2011) #202

No, this not work. Also not 1.0.3. I remove now all facade server :frowning:

(badman) #203

I’m not really in a position to speak for id and ZeniMax, though I think it’s safe to say that Splash would offer to step in should the master server ever be on the, ahem, brink.

(Domagoj) #204

So badman, when we can expect offical fix? This week maybe?

(Mateos) #205

Just if you missed it. SD will not spam ID to know the progress each hour, like some guys would like them to.

(TheSgtBilko) #206

Even though RtCW is not really your baby, did you get the feeling that ID know about and will address wolfmaster as well?

(badman) #207

They’re aware, but I’m not sure what the current plans are for RTCW. We should know more once the infrastructure’s back.

Hello Marianne,

This official messaging was recently put on twitter by the developers:

"id Software @idSoftware

We recently became aware of a possible issue on the Wolf:ET master server. We’re working on a solution & will update when we have more info."

Please follow them on twitter to get an update as one becomes available.

Best Regards,
Julie,
Bethesda Support Technique.

I’m really hoping the list will be back within this week…
My members are loosing the hope that it returns…

(yishayyy) #210

ye alot of players didnt come to my server ^^

(OldMan2011) #211

ET dies at breathtaking speed. What remains are only the regulars. Thank ID and Evenbalance! You to understand a good game buried. The problem is, with a free game you can not make a profit …

(blindman100) #212

Yea they dont make anything off et, never did, its sad really that so many have put so much into this game to see it deliberately sabotaged.

(wolfn00b) #213

If ID needed to make money to justify keeping ET online, they could have charged a subscription to have a server listed on the master list. I bet a lot of admins would pay $5 or $10 a month to list a server on the id master list. This would give them a reason to put it back online. Maybe someone could suggest it to them.

This would also have the effect of reducing the number of junk servers, and cut down on all the clans that use multiple listings of the same server to increase traffic. I always thought that was a lame trick.

I’m wondering if the ddos exploits of all the quake 3 servers was a factor in turning off all the master lists for all the quake 3 game. Haven’t heard anyone say much about it, but if they were being used as ddos platforms then maybe there was some legal liability they had to address.

My little server is dead, last night I had no players at all when I went on to check it. Usually there are 5 or ten people on. It’s on the new masterlist but I don’t think most ET players know about it. I have a little forum and it is dropping off too, I have told my regulars to update their ET.exe but only six of them have downloaded it from where I hosted it. So as a server hoster I am thinking ahead here and maybe I will be switching to another game soon.

I’m telling you guys…we may have to start consolidating clans now to keep players!

Anyone who wants to make one massive clan, feel free to merge with us at SupremeClan.org

Or somthing like my suggestion made herfe on SD forum --> http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php/31823-Thinking-out-of-the-box-here
and on Trackbase forum here --> http://forum.trackbase.net/threads/1114-Thinking-out-of-the-box-here?p=12265#post12265

basically same idea, except clans keep their identities, commandlines and in most cases saves money

(Patriotqube) #216

This is absolutely the best news i can get out off this mess

Thanks mate for even offering it, thats a thumb up from me, then its just up to ID to accept ofc

(wolfn00b) #217

I think that would be a good idea, but people don’t want to give up their identity and leadership roles.

What do we do if we disagree with a ban? Who decides what maps we run? What mods? What OS? Who pays for everything? How many admin levels? I don’t want to learn someone else’s arbitrary 20-level admin system.

Most clans are really splinter groups of other clans, people get tired of each other and go start their own servers to have some autonomy and do things their own way.

I agree, that was how is was then. I was in a major clan, got tired of the politics, left, started my own, but in those days you could. Not sure if that is the case anymore. That’s why having one large clan with several mini clans is a good idea. They would be all under one website, but the servers could be maintained by their owners. The purpose would be to consolidate for players. The only autonomy they would lose is having a dedicated website, but they would have a dedicated page and forum at least. This would be a NON-PROFIT operation, the larger clans would just chip in and pay the bills only. The smaller clans would just participate in forums. The combined players in all the clans would ensure some activity on each server, and communication via xfire.

But don’t get me wrong, anything more than a dozen mini clans might be Chaos, and not just any clan would be accepted, at least not in ours.

As far as the Qubenet Clan idea. It’s a decent idea, but moving hardware is a bit extreme. Not to mention sounds like a money making opportunity. Curious…isn’t trackbase owned or affiliated with F|A clan or owners?

(Patriotqube) #219

Il answer this in what i think is correct thread for that --> http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php/31823-Thinking-out-of-the-box-here?p=392496&viewfull=1#post392496

(Paul) #220

Not at all, F|A is a community/clan and Trackbase is an ET game tracker, not affiliated or run by F|A members and/or admins.

Btw, could we please keep this discussion on topic? There are enough other topics where this stuff is talked about

Anyway, the master should just be back up, and if it wont, move it to SD or point it at etmaster, or even something else. Paying for it is just not gonna work, it should be freely available as a service.Besides, it doesn’t cost any money to run it.
