Sine I installed ET full sometimes when I played the game and rebooted my pc for some unknown reason my pc doesn’t seem to detect my geforce 4 ti video card and moniter. I installed the latest drivers but it got even worse, I even installed the whql certified drivers but no luck :banghead: . It seems that sometimes when I play et then restart the pc does not detect either the card or the moniter and the only way to get the pc to detect them is by reinstalling the drivers. I uninstalled the game to see if the problem continued but no it didn’t.

does anyone know how to solve this problem?

nope it didn’t work now I think it got even worse I restarted after playing et and this time the screen was black the whole time and when I rebooted again the card and moniter weren’t detected. :???:

This sounds like a bigger issue. Do other games seem to work just fine and only ET causes this problem? Did you recently buy your video card or some other new component?

That sounds like a serious PC/OS problem…

You should prob tell us what operating system, and hard you have…

Also have you moved you comp recently (might need to reseat the cards)
Anyone know if Heat could cause this?? seems unlikely, but who knows.

It sounds very like EVERY bios in the box needs updating, the fact that newest software drivers aren’t being used is a big hint that a user has most definitely not got all the firmware in the box up to date.

Actually most people don’t but whenever someone encounters a problem updated bios’s are the first thing I usually want to eliminate from the equation. Saying all that if you don’t know what you are doing (100% doing as well) there is a very good chance that something will go pop and you won’t have a working computer or any idea of how to get it working again, if ever again.

Thats why there are people paid to do such work.

It might have nothing to do with this at all though and, well it’s INCREDIBLY hard to one, diagnose the problem and two fix it over a forum. Are there any fixes on this site from similar posts ?

That all sounds very negative but I’m afraid it’s very realistic, as all the info given is, I installed ET and now sometimes my computer doesn’t remember some things about my video card and monitor (which I have never come across in my 9 years as an engineer ( a job thankfully left behind as computers were hardly ever the problem but the people who had them were)).

lets break down what happens …

you play ET, then turn your PC off. when you go to turn it back on, you boot to OS w/ standard vga card in device manager and your monitor is detected as a PnP monitor in device manager ? ? ?

are you looking in device manager to determine that your card ‘uninstalled’ itself ? are you booting back to desktop at a lower resolution and assuming its uninstalled ?

when I quit out of ET it does take awhile to get my desktop back, ET doesnt want to let go … are you quitting out of game, or is game crashing when this occurs ?

what OS are you using ? when you install video drivers, did you uninstall old ones first, or install new ones over old ones ?

reseating grfx card isnt a bad idea to try … never heard of anything like this happening. Have you changed anything about your PC before this issue came up ? Did this happen from first time you installed and played ET ?

hmm guys I think you where right about the bios and the firmwires I updated them and the problem is now gone thanks alot guys for using a bit of your time to help me out :clap: .
