Two things Paul Wedgwood promised that I can't find

(FrankieGodskin) #1

Both of these have to do with levelling.

First, Paul said that if you got a character to level 20, the XP you gained with that character could be used on a different character, basically “spilling over” to your lower-level character. In other words, my primary character is level 20 and my secondary is level 13. I should be able to play with my level 20 and apply the experience earned to my level 13 character, essentially levelling that character up without using him. If there’s a way to do this, I haven’t figured it out.

Second, we were supposed to be able to use high-level characters with low-level friends. Paul said if I have a rank 4 character, and my friend has a Rank 3, I can join their game, but I would only have access to my abilities which are rank 3 and lower. Again, if there’s a way to do this, I haven’t figured it out. So far, I’ve been told my rank is too high for the server and I can’t join my friends.

Molyneux Syndrome. Welcome to it.

Sadly, QFT

I remember being told this was ET3, it’s closer to ET 0.5 beta 1

This is why devs stopped talking to their fans, or get really closed and secretive about projects while they work on it. Things change throughout the development- sometimes things that seemed like a good idea don’t work out etc. Just because they had it one way at one point, doesn’t mean we should hold them to it. Now, if it’s something lots of people really want, then yeah, maybe they should implement it- but don’t act like you’ve been betrayed and lied to, that’s just silly.

(0xT1) #6

They had mentioned a while back that this had to be cut out. It was known before release.

(Bakercompany) #7

Oh did they? If thats the case I retract my statement.

Molyneux is famous for not telling us what was cut.

(jazevec) #8

Stop.

They changed their mind ? Fine. But why do they keep quiet about it ? Look take a look at Blizzard. They talk to their fans a lot, but they have no problems saying something didn’t work as well as expected. They even explain why they threw away the change. (They have a wonderful rule: “Never be afraid to throw a feature away”).

Now back to Brink and Splash Damage in general. When they change something, they keep quiet about it and hope you don’t notice. Not outright lying, but lots of omissions. Dishonest marketing.

Talking to your fans is only dangerous if you’re irresponsible or dishonest. One of countless examples of how Blizzard does it:

If it’s a private server your friend should have specified to allow people of “My rank or higher” into the server. Then you should be able to join.

(sirius89) #10

Lieing developers.

Well,nothing new these days huh?

And Peter Molyneux is the worst of them.Don’t believe ANYTHING he says about a game he’s lieing anyway.

(dazman76) #11

You know, even with this knowledge in hand, I still seem to buy his games. I guess I remember the good old days of Bullfrog, when they didn’t really say anything - and just released awesome games.

(LyndonL) #12

As 0xT1 said.

(FrankieGodskin) #13

I agree, which is why I’m not acting that way. It’s also why, in both cases, I said that I couldn’t find the option, implying that the option could be there and I simply didn’t know how to access it. I don’t believe there was anything accusatory in my post claiming SD were liars or betrayers.

(FrankieGodskin) #14

To be fair, it wasn’t “known” to me. I’m not going to claim that I feel ripped off now or that I want my money back. However, these were two features that were mentioned in interviews that were selling points to me, as they showed innovation and flexibility, and I doubt that these features’ removal was proclaimed as loudly as their revelations were.

Frankie, if the player with the lowest level character starts a match selecting the option “play with players at my rank or higher” (Or however it is specifically listed) then the higher ranked player can play with the lower ranked players.

If a player with a higher ranked player selects the same option and starts a match, then the lower ranked player may still be kept out. At least that is my experience.

True, but I believe this is the same as my level 10 friend joining my level 20 game–he’s completely outclassed. I was looking for the reverse option, where I could join his game with my temporarily-nerfed character. Thanks for the recommendation, though.

(FeloNYC) #17

Well I’m playing on the 360 and this feature does not work as explained. On numerous occasions, I tried to have one of my lower level friends(I’m a 20 now) create, and invite me to a game which allows for higher ranked players to get into. It has not worked once. As someone mentioned earlier, as it currently works, the highest ranked player has to create the match then in invite lower level friends.

Problem with this work around is that many low level guys get slaughtered by the “lvl 20” bots, who are also equipped with rank 5 abilities like cortex bombs, lazarous nades, and Gatling turrets. Makes it harder to initially learn the game with friends…

(PiMD360) #18

Let me guess, Subtitles use too much memory, so as a design decision, they were removed, thus f**king over deaf and/or hard of hearing people. Thanks SD.

(tokamak) #19

Subtitles are cliche and overdone.

(Niceperformancethere) #20

didnt he say the game would run on PC’s? what a joke.
