Two ETPro 3 queries...

Just had my biggest bash playing on an ETPro 3 server. Excellent work, the hitsounds rock. Just a couple of things though.

Does ETPro 3 change the XP amounts required for leveling up? Or merely allow these to be changed. I was Med, and I need 25 XP to hit level 1 instead of the regular 20, and when I had 109 BS XP, I was at level 4, instead of needing 140.

Secondly, by luck, some fool came onto the server running a multihack. There was a server message saying “(Name of person) is CHEATING, but the server doesn’t allow kicks for cheating”, or something to that degree. The player was eventually kicked, I think through a team vote, not through the regular PB way. The cheater claimed it was a ETPro bug, and I should check out GA Forums or something. Has anyone else seen this? Or can shed some light on it?

In ET Pro it’s possible to set the XP amount that is required for levelling up.

ET Pro has it’s own anti cheat system in addition to PB.
If the word “cheater” has been written in yellow:
It’s not necessary a cheat.
There are several reasons why Et Pro thinks a player could be cheating.
Actually if this is not 100 % true it should not be called cheating.

You will find more information about Et Pro on the following wesites:

If the word “cheater” has been written in yellow:

The message was yellow, cheater was in red. I just thought it was unusual that is said the server won’t kick you for it. Thanks for the links, checking out now.

Just read up on it. Figured it out. Crisis averted.

Remember that there’s no easy way to tell which ETPro 3.0.1 [testbugfix] version and which version of the cheat database that is on a server, and that there have been a number of false positives in 3.0.1. In other words he may have been telling the truth…

The important thing is that ETPro most likely disabled the cheat, so even if he was a cheater at heart (:P) he probably wasn’t able to use it.

etpro can set ow much xp is needed to level up, main idea is to allow it to be set more suited for clanwars i.e. stopwatch, as xp really is designed for 3 map campaigns where it carries over.

“cheater” in yellow is very unsure, just kind of like marking a player as having something running which seems a bit dodgy. in red, its supposed to mean a certain cheat though there’s some known problems with it. I think theyre going to change the way it’s handled (or at least how its presented) in future etpro.

(puubert) #7

He denied using a cheat. But CHEATER showed up in red, I’m prepared to trust the software.

As far as the ETPro cheat detection, is it going to carry the same weight as PB? Will PB and ETPro cross reference cheaters? That kinda thing, or is it just to catch people who fall through the net?

(nUllSkillZ) #8

I’ve read somewhere (think it was in Bani’s forums) that ET Pro tries to catch the cheater that aren’t detected by PB.
So it’s an addition.

(puubert) #9

Yeah, I read that, PB will catch what ETPro can’t, and ETPro will catch what PB can’t. I just curious as to how much weight a ETPro ban will carry, compared to a PB one.

personally I consider it as being effective enough that etpro is stopping the cheats working (and should be kicking them from the server), but dont think it is sufficiently reliable to go around accusing people of being cheaters and making bans etc.

I guess you could make an analogy like PB are like police, who might take time to catch people but when they do can get em out for good (well, not in no-cdkey ET :/) whereas etpro anticheat is like a wall that keeps any unsavoury characters out in the first place (if unfortunately keeping out a few others too).

PB and etpro should be ran together.

There are conditions in which ETPro’s anti-cheat will report false positives with the red Cheater flag:

I was also playing on that server, when the cheat message came up the name was in red and a vote was called. The offender said that it was an ETpro bug however about a minute later they were kicked by punkbuster for multihack. In this case we can be certain that it wasnt a false positive.

Damn Adza, I didn’t see you on there, what name were you playing under?

I never saw the PB kick, so I thought it was a vote.

at the moment, i would say PB is the only certain detection system, its accepted as proof by most admins for servers/ladders/leagues/competitions.
What ETPro does is slightly different though.

  1. It will disable most hacks before the player even starts playing
  2. It is designed in such a way that it infact will detect future hacks (unlike PB which is allways behind)
  3. It doesnt HAVE TO kick players who are cheating, only if the admin decides to enable kicking
  4. It has a much much better fixed GUID system than PB, so eventually when ETPro is developed more cheaters wont be able to get around bans so easily

PB and ETPro should be run together for the moment though

I believe that the aim is for ETPro anticheat to eventually replace PB, i think it already detects most cheats that PB does, plus a whole load more that PB doesnt, and future hacks that arent even out yet.

Puubert, sorry for the late replay.
I was the one with no name.
Yes he was kicked in the end by punkbuster that is how we were able to see it was a multihack.
Hope to play you again.

No worries, I’m sure we’ll bump into each other again. I’m usually on 203.109.138.149:27960 The iHug ETPro server late at night.
