Tweaking, how to get the best FPS possible?

(=DaRk=CrAzY-NuTTeR) #21

why?

(CM..Punk) #22

'Coz “your” doesn’t mean the same thing as “you’re”

(=DaRk=CrAzY-NuTTeR) #23

holy fuck, are you people english teahcers? your very sad to be counting out every little spelling mistake

(BondyBoy007) #24

lol I had to point it out as I found it funny that, when using five words to call someone an idiot, two of them were wrong

(evilsock) #25

You should let hjim off Bondy - he’s only 12 after all

(BondyBoy007) #26

well I didn’t really have a go as such, I’ve long since got past my “spelling nazi” phase we all go through, it just seemed ironic

(Riftgarde) #27

I’ve never had that phase. I never had to dig that low.

I really don’t think it’s too much to ask of people to use the basic grammar rules we (should have) learnt in our introductory English classes in a forum where all communication is done via text. It’s little more than common courtesy.

I don’t mind minor grammar and spelling errors here and there, especially since there are many posters here whose native language is not English; however, for someone living in a primarily English speaking country (speak much Gaelic, nutter?) who has likely been in school for 6-7 years to make a glaringly obvious grammar error ¹ while calling someone an idiot is certainly worth pointing out, if only for the irony factor. Bonus points for not only whining and dishing out insults when called on the error, but for also making the same mistake again.

¹ I’ve done a fair bit of copy editing, so perhaps I’m a bit oversensitive to this. Still, I know several people who speak English as a second or third language who have no problem with your/you’re.

I take the view that reading a book every so often helps. Long after school has become a distant memory, the act of reading a book on a regular basis (even the same one) is probably as much as you can idly do to maintain decent word power, spelling and prevent basic grammatical errors. I thoroughly recommend Sven Hassel - you can start with ‘Wheels of Terror’, taking in ‘Monte Cassino’ and ‘SS General’ then maybe end with the rather dissapointing ‘OGPU Camp’ or ‘Assignment Gestapo’ - did my word power no end of good - heh

Damn, Rain, that looks nice. How did you get the reflections in the floor? I’ve got my graphic settings maxed out but have never seen reflections like that. I’m running a P4 3.4 Ghz with a 9800 Pro. Is that some sort of setting in your config file?

(Rain) #31

Yay, someone noticed.

It’s actually an experiment I was doing with the bank floor in goldrush, and I thought it looked really spiffy. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get it to work well enough to actually provide a pk3 or anything for the change—the stairs at the bank entrance proved really problematic. :frowning:

Lately I have been playing on my Laptop and also since my CRT died I bought an LCD for the Desktop so I have been constantly trying to find a middle ground to get good/decent graphics and still have ok framerates…
I hate to tweak config’s or even pretend that I know what I am doing (I fix hardware in the navy not software) so I just let the game pick my settings using set recommended (how n00bish of me right?). My LCD (Sony 17") has a native resolution of 1280x1024 and I have an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb for my desktop and I can get some pretty high framerates but I like to limit them to around 75 for some inane reason. My laptop is 1024x760 native resolution and its 15.4" widescreen format is pretty good for gaming. It has a Radeon 9600 64mb but the laptop has an AMD64 3000+ and I get higher framerates on that then I do on my desktop…Go figure eh?
Why do I say all this? I let the game pick for me and spend all of my time playing instead of worrying about tweaking my game to the edge of unplayableness in the search of some insane “edge” over everyone that plays against me. I may not be ubergreat but I can do a little bit o damage and still have fun…

(squadjot) #33

i guess its needless to say …that much tweaking can be done from controlpanel>display>settings[tab]>advanced[button]>thenfindOpenGL … whether u want really high or low visual settings…its worth checking ur settings there…

well my FPS hasnt frikken changed but my game seems to run smoother

Look up replicator.cfg, replace the bind section with YOUR own, make sure your monitor can handle the refreshrate at the bottom of the file and you are set to go. Did wonders for me.
