turrets

(Breo) #61

It depends where they are deployed and how many, 1-2 turrets is mostly useless but on a full server with 3-4 well placed turrets that cover each other definitly not.

(rookie1) #62

Turrets are ok like they are imo ,disturbing but weak ,not overpowerd, effecient if well placed (a max per team should be set …incase engies only team)

(Ashog) #63

they are in no way efficient however u place em

(OwNLY) #64

Turrets are really nice as they are now.
Not too deadly, weak in the open but if used right they are a force mutliplier.

Hide them in a corner, let the enemys rush in, and watch the effect.
Works like an ambush, i have seen 2-3 enemys at once fall against me and my turret.

In comp they will be limited to 1 turret per team i think.

(rookie1) #65

just the fact that is hold your attention to destroy one of them …is efficient …got the clock ticking

(Ashog) #66

tried using them in attack? well try. have fun.

(rookie1) #67

they dont meant to be the weapon of choice…
unless with the unlock there is a super turret in store (limited to 1 per team)

(OwNLY) #68

How the **** can you use a stationary gun for attack in the first place?

A turret is for defending a position. Thats what it´s made for.

(MrFunkyFunk) #69

I rejoin everyone’s opinion on turrets: atm they’re quite balanced.

You could argue the laser is too much of a giveaway but well placed they’re really a nuisance paired with players.
You look in one direction, wasting time & ammo on one, only to be fired upon by the owner or other players. Other times you’re not cautious enough thinking you can ignore it and the turret only needs one second to finish you off,
Each game you see plenty of turrets kills on players, no matter the victim’s skill.

(ps: Each time I throw a flash as assault, I don’t necessarily kill someone. It shouldn’t be different for the engie, the reload time is really forgiving and make up for bad positioning)

(Shiv) #70

the flashbang is a poor choice of example, thats simply an additive for the assault, they have a big stompy kill all machine gun.
The turret is kinda the keystone for this engineer, and it rarely pulls its weight.

Well it was more to point out the ability reload time. Atm you can pick up a destroyed turret and skip a large chunk of the ability reload time.
Engie has a relatively accurate gun on the current loadout, the handgun isn’t my favorite but it’s performing in an ok range. It’s a step in the right direction, it’s miles away from the shotgun/mine loadout I really didn’t enjoy.

I understand there are two camps: the first expects the turret to be their main kill source, a reliable threat to everyone all the time (a bit like the TF2 engie); the second, which I’m part of, sees it as a support ability that requires smart positioning & play from the engie, not a “drop & forget” tool.
I also believe that some of you feel it’s underperforming because of the current spawn times, at the moment someone you killed might be back after 3 seconds to get rid of the turret he encountered moments before with little to no-time allowed to the engie to change its spot.
Name plates are probably at fault too, anything on screen is labelled on sight.

(Kendle) #72

What a depressing topic, I can stomach turrets as long as I can forget they exist, which I mostly can as long as they remain pants, but lately they’ve been a pain in the arse. It’s not so much getting killed by them, it’s getting killed by the Engineer who planted it while I’m taking it out. It’s like the defending team get a few extra players for free, like the game really needs even more defensive bias. :’(

qft

+chars

(-iWi-) #74

hm…, I guess that You’ve got the same problem with the engineer’s explosive mine ? Isn’t it? You’ve got the same chance to play"extra players for free" = turret
well it’s up on You. Thankfully that there’s some other games developer - different from CS, COD, BF…etc.

Turret is ok - right now it needs little bit more increase health.
Airstrike is ok too (right now - does not work ) “firework for children” ; increase radius, and a bit more of damage !

I hope that’s just the beginning of their role in DB !!!:cool::tongue:

(murka) #75

It’s just the way turrets should be used. On their own they should stand no chance however well placed, but in a teamfight, they are indeed a healthy gun for hire. It’s not rare when a well placed turret takes down 70-80% of my health, but add an enemy player and you either have a dead body or a fleeing soldier, either way, you now control that route.
I’m not saying the turrets should be treated as final, but most of the complaints seem geared towards turrets being able to kill alone, but i do hope they never become equal, rather an extension of hand, another gun in your inventory.

(Ashog) #76

So using engie in attack is useless then, meaning that attacking teams will never have engies in roster. Meaning you will not get “extra” players in attack by placing turrets.

On another note, we have been trolling and crapping on turrets whole map today on the pwed server - running with knives only and turrets 5x5.
I was able to kill 3 turrets in a row with a knife. Very often 2 turrets. And yes, I was charging at them from the front side. Just great. Useless.

(Ashog) #77

If a turret isn’t able to kill alone, then I don’t need it, because it’s a waste of my time. In current game with crazzy ttk it is much easier and faster to actually shoot someone with one’s rifle to ensure a kill, rather than exposing yrself to plant a turret and get nothing from it in most cases. Just remove it from the game, everyone will be happy tbh. No high expectations lost.

(OwNLY) #78

Then you are using it not the way it´s supposed to.

Again, a turret is meant as a force multiplier for defending areas.
Like an ambush, a player sitting in a corner camping for you.
And the turret is at the moment doing this job perfectly.
Your rifle + your turret in a corner = effective defense against several guys.

(Ashog) #79

Who said that??

Your rifle + your turret in a corner = effective defense against severaly guys.

And in attack??

(murka) #80

So instead of learning how to use new things we should immediately remove them. Had SD used such thought process we wouldn’t have ETQW.

You expose yourself when the area is clear, you then proceed to shoot together with your turret, ensuring a kill which in a 1v1 situation, you wouldn’t be so sure of.

Also, they can be used on offense. The general game consists of dominating small areas. Even the attacking team defends and the defending team attacks.
