Turning off voicechats takes away indicators.

Hi,

I don’t know if this is configuration or code, and I have zero interest in arguing over what constitutes a “bug”. (It is important to me eg. it’s a bug.)

Voice chats are tiring after a few hundred (thousand?) times. However team voice chat is required to get the icons above teammate heads and on radar. If you cg_noNoiceChats 1; then the chatter is absent but you’ll never know who requested ammo or who wants a medic or who said what. The voice sprite code is bypassed.

That’s not right. Simply because I don’t want to hear the same digitized voice shout out “NEED A MEDIC!!” for the 4,567th time does not mean I don’t feel like helping them out with meds. (or ammo, etc.) And seeing the exclamation over their heads while reading the text version is plenty to know who said what.

Note1: For medics, bodies on ground awaiting revive DO show on radar and have the red needle icon. Only hurt people vsay_team requesting do not show icon/radar.

Note2: Even with cg_noVoiceChats 1; you’ll still hear the deathknell “medic”. Technically that’s a voice chat, albeit an automatically initiated one.

Thoughts? Ideas?

I agree. I had no idea it was possible to turn them off. I am getting sick of idiots who flood them.

try this, it may help.

set cg_noVoiceChats 0
set teamChatsOnly 1

//VoiceChat Toggle
//================
set vchat1 “cg_noVoiceChats 0; set teamChatsOnly 0; set chatToggle vstr vchat2; echo Voice Chat Is ^3On.”
set vchat2 “cg_noVoiceChats 1; set teamChatsOnly 0; set chatToggle vstr vchat3; echo Voice Chat Is ^2Off.”
set vchat3 “cg_noVoiceChats 0; set teamChatsOnly 1; set chatToggle vstr vchat1; echo Team Only Voice Chat Is ^3On.”
set chatToggle “vstr vchat1”
bind p "vstr chatToggle
//Then just use your F4 on the keypad to toggle through the 3 options.
//#1 is normal voice chat. You can hear everything.
//#2 is ALL voice chats off.
//#3 is team only. you can hear your teammates only.

It still really doesnt do what u ask, and thats make “call for med” text and icon but no sound. but hey 2 out of 3 is a start.

Ahh, see that doesn’t help at all. Thanks though.

The teammates are the ones that make the most chatter, from vsay_team requests to the auto enemydisguised, they make up ~90% of it. Mostly global chats are just Hi and a few taunts. (until the end, obviously.)

Audio spammage of the server is a different issue entirely and I have no idea how to make idiots not be. I’m just talking about normal, respectable gameplay.

But the chatsounds are driving me insane! In one loop of 6 maps how many times do you think you hear just the medic cry with 12-16 teammates? (counting the auto-played one when people fall)

Lets average 10 deaths, x 14 people, x 6 maps. 840 times. And that is just the auto-played ones. How many times do non-medics request health on a given map? How many times does some impatient pric… ahem, person press his /bind’ed key to play it 4 times in a row?

So it’s not stretching the truth to say you’ll be hearing it at least 1000 times per six map loop. At least. And just that one, not to mention the 5 other most spoken vsay_team.

I’d turn it all off, but imagine no panzer wind-up, footsteps, mine hiss, frag gren bounce, marker gren spoon, blah blah blah… yea sure, no problemo. Who needs sound?

I have a feeling what I want requires codework; it’s another situation where it’s doing exactly what it was programmed to do. :slight_smile: It might be a simple pointer change to include the sprite icons but leave teamchat sounds off, but it will still require SD distributing a patchfile.

Hmm. What about… could I rip apart the pak and replace the teamchat voc files with zeroed-out samples?

It’s the same way in rtcw…
