truly disable friendly fire

when you disable friendly fire ( a must for a public server IMHO ) you stil get killed by your own grenades and mines this can become realy anoying when others rush trough the mine you just placed or jump in front of you when you fire your riflegrenade :banghead: would it not be better too disable all friendly fir including your own?

Anyone who even attempts to have FF turned off should have his IP logged by the ET master server and banned from ever participating in any other REAL mens servers. As a teacher of mine who was ex Irish army (yes I know I laugh at that too but he was a hard bastard) said,

And it would be even better with enemy fire off too. They'd have to block doors to defend objectives.

Or you could play the map alone, so it’s easier.

FF off makes you weak. It dulls your skills at spotting enemy coverts and lets you fire off at anything that moves without punishment.

Of course it’s fun when you just don’t feel like playing that serious of a game. But that’s unacceptable.

I don’t think there is a way to disable taking damage from your own weapons. This isn’t covered by the friendly fire option since technically you’re inflicting damage on yourself.

ff is great if you play with a team that knows what its doing but ony many of the public servers i played people dont know what there doing blasting everything the see moving until now playing with ff on only got me realy frustrated for being blown in pieces by an teamates panzerfaust just as i am to detonate a primary objetive and things like it.
for sure playing a clan with ff on is much more fun and brings better tatics an strategy into the game.
but i’m not in a clan and doubt i’ll ever will be

Even on a pub, FF-off brings out the worst habits in people. Think of FF-off as ET’s version of natural selection. Stay away from those servers. FF-on is where it’s at

You don’t have to worry about people filing because they think the guy at the top with 1012xp is deliberately TKing them with their 23xp at the bottom.

Covert Ops can run more than 10 feet without being gunned down by their own team.

Engineers don’t get kicked by a teammate filing after playing footsy with their landmines.

Field ops can’t go nuts.

Soldiers have to watch where they flame, panzer and mortar.

Ok, I’ll have to disagree with some people here. FF off can be fun. The many hour long spamfests on happy penguin are a nice change every now and then. Yes, if you play FF off for too long it will give you some bad habits, but that is not the end of the world.

However, I still see the logic in your own weapons hurting you. FF off prevents OTHER peoples fuckups from killing you (except in the case of people who jump in front of your panzer/flamer/grenade). if you blow yourself up, it is your own damn fault.

Your statement that FF off is a ‘must’ for a pub, is quite simply, bullshit. Many (most, I suspect, but I don’t feel like going and counting right now) popular pubs run FF on. Teamkills happen, but this is a GAME. You get to respawn in 40 seconds or less.

ps: one of my funniest FF off experiences was going into a server, trying to TK/revive someone and wondering how I missed a clip of pistol shots at point blank range.

How about these:

FF OFF ( as shin suggests )

A panzer and an enemy meet in a corridor corner. The panzer switches to weaponbank3, aims down, fires, runs on unscathed

As an F-Op on battery, I put Airstikes at our spawn so my teammates can run just in front of it, and be propelled up the beach and over the cliffs by the explosions ( without taking damage ).

If I think a C-op is in a bunch of teammates somwhere, I just panzer the lot of them - the c-op will die but my teammates ( standing 1m away ) will be unscathed.

On Oasis, axis f-ops will just arty and a/s the allied spawn, then run around in the middle of the explosions using SMG. The allies can’t chase into the fire zone after them, and the explosions and smoke hide the f-ops ( so the allied spawners now face arty AND SMG ).

Nobody needs to worry about identifying targets. You just shoot if it moves - and if it doesn’t die it’s a teammate.
