Trouble Connecting

Hey there.

A friend of mine at work is trying to get started in the wonderful world of ET. However hes struggling to connect and I thought I would see if anyone here can help…

First off, I have done searches on the forum but couldnt find this one but I could of course have missed something (we’re only human!)…

He installed the game and then installed ET patch 1.02 (I am not yet on 2.6 as am on an old PC and game is running off a second HD and the patch wont find it).

He then extracted ET Pro 3.1.0 to his ET folder.

He then tried to connect to our Mustard servers so I could show him around as it were (we are running one of our servers on 3.1.9 and I assumed it would auto update his ET Pro), but it wont let him connect. He is getting up to the map screen and says awaiting gamestate. It then switches to an attempted download (our watermark I believe) and says 0% of 24Kb and wont go any further. He was at one point listed as a spectator but he was still seeing the map screen with 0% on the file upload…

His machine:

Dell P IV 3.0ghz
1Gb Memory
200GB SATA HD
ATI 128Mb PCI-E Gfx

He has Mcafee AV and although he did have his firewall switched on to begin with it made no difference when disabling it…

Any ideas?

Windows firewall? I have no idea how to fix his problem, but…

You could try sending him the watermark .pk3 via msn, or anything else… see if that “”"“fixes”""" his problem. Alternatively, he could disable downloads, /cl_allowdownload(s) 0; in your cfg / config.

I’d stuck a number of things on the disc I gave him including a host of maps and stuff but pretty sure I didnt put any watermarks on there! Unfortunately I cant fire up msn messenger as the PC I am using ( I blew my other pc’s mobo up lol!) has got the about:blank virus and thats another story!! I’ll send it to him by email though np… I’ll also get him to disable downloads and see if that works.

Any other ideas on this greatly appreciated so we can try a number of things this evening!

Re the 2.6 patch, no I have not tried that but will have a crack tonight. Its just that I am ordering new kit and didnt know if it was really worth doing it when I will have a new system soon anyway! Cheers for your help though dude…

How about updating PB manaully (pbweb i think) I know i had a few problems and this did the trick for me.

Na we have that very same problem except is more wide spread. Randomly the game would shut down, it decides to send us or our clients to our dl site and the internet explorer would come up and say access forbidden. error 404. We have tried EVERYHING. Everything is set on both servers for dl. The big head scratcher is the fact that some people seem to be immune to it, like myself, others including clanmembers have a real hard time connecting. We recently exchanged configs so that we all run the same config to eliminate that, and still nothing. We loose other clients to acking disconnected dl mode and unexpected download bb18r. Arg our other server worked fine and now this one is… well… :banghead:

Have you pulled the console down when he is trying to download ? Any useful information there ?
