TRIVIA TIME

(Jesus) #1

I was in school today very bored as usual and I thought about doing this thread.

The point of this thread is to bring people some more general culture (in case you want to participate to TV game for ez money for example).
Ill start today and I’ll try to upload at least daily trivia. You can of course contribute to it but make sure to not put bullshit. It doesnt have to be related to Dirty Bomb or anything else.
It will be a thread one could read when bored on the forum to learn new stuff that might never be useful.

Ill start right now.
As it is the international day for women rights lets speak about those signs
♀ ♂
We all know them its female and male, but do you know where they come from ?

These are used since renaissance
-The female sign ♀ represent a hand mirror the circle being the glass and the cross under it the handle of the mirror. This symbolises the goddess of beauty Venus.

-The male sign ♂ represent Mars’s shield (the circle) and his spear (the arrow)

Cockroaches, none likes having them in their house but their interesting stuff to know about them.

Most people know these brat can survive nuclear fallout. Its been around since some time.
But did you knew that these can survive several weeks without a HEAD!!
Yep you got it right, if you thought getting rid of this cockroach by cutting his head with a tiny guillotine it wont work.

Cockroaches have an open blood system, its not even close to our complex blood system, their fluids are not under a lot of pressure unlike ours therefor if you cut their head they wont be ejected as fast as blood is ejected when you cut someone’s head (I’m not responsible of whatever you might to do to test this assertion). This low pressure allow them to “close” their injuries before dying. On top of that cockroaches dont breath by their head and their blood doesnt transport oxygen.

I see you coming being like “but they have no more brain how can they still live”
well let me tell you they actually still have brains, yes brains with an “s” as several of them.
They have nodes and mass of nerves cells throughout all their bodies allowing them to walk run and react to touch during weeks after the loss of their head. And they will only die by hunger thirst or infection.

Another interesting fact is that scientist noticed the head could also survive several hour after being separated from the body. Creepy huh ?

Next time you try to kill one keep your tiny guillotine, it wont be very effective on them just use your boot.

During World War 1, the Germans tried to have shotguns banned from being used claiming it was an overly painful method of killing and declaring that any captured enemy in possession of a shotgun would be executed. Whether they followed up on it or not I didn’t check, but dayum, there be a lot of salt surrounding the shotgun since before video games.

By the way, the shotgun in question is the Winchester M97 pump action shotgun, or the trench gun so named for its ability to easily clear trenches, which if you studied history unlike me, made up the bulk of WWI. Sitting in trenches until someone decided it was a good idea to attack the enemy trenches. And gas.

Also, the coach gun was named for its use in defending stagecoaches, which also lead to the coining of the term “riding shotgun”

One last thing, there’s a non-lethal shotgun round that’s a stun gun. Be a good boy, now…

Would higly recommend watching Adam Ruins Everything, he’s got a full season of blowing everything you know away, with sources to prove it.

To kick that off: Diamonds are intrinsically worthless.

plate armor was invited in 14/15 century, and most of the people couldn’t afford full armor, and then ( sadly in my opinion) were first signs of guns, so armors became useless

have you heard or saw in games that swords are heavy? no, they aren’t
long sword weights 1500 grams

Skallagrim

John Browning once got Winchester Repeating Arms to make a shotgun capable of holding more than 2 shells, and wanted it to be a pump-action shotgun. Winchester management, however, refused and made it a lever action instead.

Besides clearing trenches, the M97 was used to shoot enemy grenades out of the air, just like clay pigeon shooting, except deadlier.

In 1970, the Soviets landed a spacecraft on Venus. It became the first to successfully land on another planet and the first to send date back to earth.
