"Trickjumping" to interesting places

I’ve been playing ET since it was put out, and I still try to find new ways to play the game or new tactics that might be of use. Recently, I’ve tried to experiment with getting to places on the map(s) that might give you an advantage or that might allow you to fire at enemies from an unexpected or (fairly) concealed location. I’ve seen a few trickjump movies here and there, and while most are cool they either require FF to be off, or they’re not really of any use within the game itself.

The reason I’ve been trying to experiment with this is because I’ve found, over the past few weeks, that jumping to the top of the mast near the trackswitch at Railgun (as Allied) gives you a tremendous advantage and often results in a lot of kills while you generally remain unseen. It might sound strange, as in reality you should still be in plain view, but a record run of about ten kills in a row there the day before yesterday convinced me that this is quite a cool tactic. I think the reason why enemies tend not to see you is…well, simply put, because they’re watching the ground and will generally be engaged in combat with the rest of your team down there. It’s amazing how easy it is to pick them off from up there and how long you can remain unharmed. The same goes for the top of the railgun itself; I find the Axis generally won’t expect anyone to be there, and yet you can fire at them from the back while they’re fighting over the trackswitch.

So now I’m looking for more cool places to get to in the game, in the interest of keeping the game interesting. I guess everyone knows how to jump onto the roof of the Axis MG towers from the top of the railing, or onto the roof of the hangar on Fuel Dump in a similar fashion, but I’m curious to know from what other places you like to give the other team hell. Yesterday for instance, as Axis on Radar, I tried to get to the roof of the Axis spawn building at the back of the map. I know it’s possible to get on there as I saw it in a trick jump movie some time ago, but I didn’t succeed. I tried getting onto the little pointy overhang sticking out of the wall outside the front of the building, on the wooden balcony, and then to jump onto the actual roof. I could manage the first one, barely, but the second one? Maybe I remember the procedure wrong.

In any case, what tips do you have in this respect? Are there “trick” jumps you often do yourself? Any locations on the maps you find are effective to hide at and where the enemy often doesn’t expect you? Since I like to play engineer, I’d love to have some tips on good places to hide on maps like Oasis as well.

I’ve seen it been done in videos, yes, but I have never managed it myself. Not that I’ve tried that much.

The trickjumps are very cool to watch, but I haven’t seen much evidence that they effect average pub gameplay. I don’t have the hours of practice required to learn them. Anyone on top of the MG tower or allied CP roof becomes an immediate target, so what’s the point? I can’t imagine missing you on the railroad mast more than once. People get wise to stuff so quick, in any given game you might get a couple kills, then the advantage is gone.

I actually used a mobile MG on the roof of the back axis spawn on Radar in a match. It caught the other team very off guard, and although they didn’t have too much trouble taking me out once they knew where the bullets were coming from, it did force them to alter their attack plan for a while.

I like to spend my time on EDITradar insid ethe axis spawn on the rafters sometime

I was ona noob server fo ralmost an hour up there (an hour guess which noob server lol)

:eek3: On the rafters of the axis spawn on Railgun? As an ally? I’d imagine they’d pick you off in no time. If you even got as far.

The top of the mast at Railgun’s very effective, though; I say give it a shot. It doesn’t work as well every time of course, but I’ve had awesome runs many time there now. I think it’s mainly the fact that the Axis either arrive in the tug or emerge from the tunnels that lets you remain undetected. That, and the fact that they’ll generally be fighting your teammates on the ground. If you’ve a good aim and can get headshots, it’s a guarantee for a ton of kills. It doesn’t work when you’re alone at the switch, of course.

I can’t really imagine and great hiding places becasue once you open up your tracers will give you away. On a noob server you might get away with it but on any halfway decent server you’ll be toast in no time, no matter were you were hiding. Only snipers could probably take advantage of such positions but if you go SMG staying mobile is the best way to stay alive IMHO :moo:

I agree with senator. Basically, what you’re looking for here is easy answers. Even if it’s fun getting where “no one” has gotten before, how convenient is it really in a game?

I see some people have experience with getting onto the roof of the axis spawn on Radar; I’d like to know, do you first jump onto the little ‘roof’ over the door that emerges onto the wooden scaffolding, and then sideways to the actual roof? I tried that lots of times during that onegame but couldn’t manage it. Seems to me like that’d be a great place to lie down as a soldier with a MG.

Even more fun is on top of the hill facing into the side bunker. With the grass on you can find a spot where you are partly hidden but can still see enough movement to know when to fire. Just keep moving a bit after every wave or a good panzer or rifle-nade shot will take you out. Sure it’s more expected but it’s a good location to set up camp regardless.
