Trick Jumping in ET:QW?

(SniperSteve) #1

One thing I liked allot about RTCW multiplayer (AKA Wolf:MP) was that there was trick jumping, and allot of freedom of movement. For me, that is what makes the game. I don’t much care if it is unrealistic to strafe-sprint, the fact is, its awesome.

Will ET:QW include things like this? I dislike sprinting where you have to lowwer your gun and everything. Yeah, its more realistic, but also less fun. We already had that in AmericasArmy and BF2. I don’t really wan’t it to ruin ET:QW aswell.

So, Keep trickjumping in. That includes, but is not limited to, strafe-sprinting, long jumping, and double jumping… Well… That one we can keep for a server mod.

i think in the demo @ e3 there wa unlimited sprinting but with lowered gun… i’m not sure and search is broken >_< but i also hope that they still play around with that point of gameplay because i also really liked trickjumping how it was in RTCW and W:ET

Trickjumping r0x! , Hope it will be included and I hope the strafe jumping will be as fast as in Quake3 BD

(ouroboro) #4

Your gun will be lowered while sprinting (subject to change of course).

(DarkangelUK) #5

That’s a bit OTT. ET has a rough sprint speed of 350ups… in Q3 you can get 530ups off the 1st jump reaching 1000ups in about 6 or 7 jumps.

But yeah, i hope tricking is in there in all it’s glory.

(Zyklon) #6

… but you have unlimited stamina. At first glance I didn’t like it, but after thinking more about it, I recon it is rather nice.
Stamina control is eliminated from firefighting, and that removes depth, sure.
But trickjumping will be easier, and you won’t have the Bf2 problem on huge maps: “Let’s sprint a little to get to that flag!” 10 metres later: pant pant walks to the flag sprints the last 3m to it

In an interview, it was said that the new trickjumping would be with vehicles. The improved vehicle physics (which were stated to be better than any current game out there) are supposed to let you do some incredible tricks.

I don’t think trick jumping will be an issue since the maps are much more spread out than ET. You won’t have the close confines like the start of Oasis where so many building parts are near enough to jump to.

Plus, as the Strogg, you can have a jetpack, so no spot is unreachable.

Also, trickjumping is like a seperate beast. Sure people like trickjumping but it has very litle to do with actual game play, sure a few people might be able to pull of some great stunts under fire, but they are mostly seen in demos and practiced by people alone. You just can’t rely on pulling off great stunts as part of your tactics during a clan game and they usually do not work in pub games either, too busy environment for it. I might be wrong but that’s how I see it at least.

in clanwars we had a few successful walljumps and for example radar has some useful places - but other than that it’s only fun for me and a way to move a bit faster

making jumps with thet vehicles? hell yeah I’m in!

(eiM) #10

well i think trickjumping in et:qw will as important for clanwars as in w:et… (not so much)
sure , there will be some standardjumps you can do to play a trick on an enemy e.g. jump on a roof in a fight and apper behind him or so but in general trickjumping is just a way to move faster or having fun alone

(SniperSteve) #11

Trickjumping with vehicles will be sweet!!!11(shift_one)

But… I still want some element of trick jumping with what matters most. IE your guy.

I’m not askimg for insane speeds like some of the numbers mentioned above, but I think the best game is the one that requires skill to master. Hitting the sprint key… is… well… BF2-ish - AKA LAME.
Give me the skill factor… Shallow games never keep players.

(Wils) #12

Whaddya mean hitting the spring key is BF2-ish? RTCW and Wolf ET both have sprint.

To clarify, we don’t stop you strafing while you’re sprinting. We don’t even stop you firing - just the game pulls you out of sprint if you fire your weapon.

(jah) #13

noooooooooooooooo :frowning:

in W:ET i like to use sprint while straffing right/left on close 1on1’s… :frowning: that’s the first thing i’ve read about QW that i dislike (in theory ofcourse - i haven’t played the game have I?).

btw will ET:QW have a fast gameplay like rtcw or a slower one like W:ET or will it be even slower? :S and will weapons have spread/recoil like rtcw? or almost no spread/recoil as in W:ET? and what about rate of fire? slow like ET or fast like rtcw?

awww so many questions roaming through my mind.

J

(MuffinMan) #14

does that mean you just go back to normal running speed at that moment or back to walking?

(SniperSteve) #15

I still like sprinting and fireing. :frowning:

By hitting the sprint key I was refering more to the fact that the weapon drops down and you can’t fire. I LOVE the way RTCW and Wolf:ET have the sprint set up.
I was also refering to the fact that I would rather have to manage my stamina, and do trickjumps to go long distances then just hold down the sprint key and not have to worry about stamina.

So, those 2 items I was refering to.

(ouroboro) #16

What’s the big deal? So what if you can’t sprint-strafe anymore, neither can anyone else. Decent W:ET players use their sprint getting places (and getting the FLIP out of my way in spawn). People who save sprint for 1v1s tend to need it to survive them anyway (i.e. you suck). Here’s your chance to learn to shoot on even terms.

As long as it’s not like DoD:S, which someone said BF2 is like as well. Sprint, pant, walk slow, recharge, sprint, pant… infuriating TBH.

(Desoxy) #17

Well, I won’t start to complain about anything before I haven’t seen the gameplay in full action. Who knows how everything will fit together in the end?

But just some words to the sprinting:
One thing I disliked in BF2, for instance, was that you were so slow getting from A to B if you had no verhicle - this would be improved if you could sprint forever.

And from what I remember playing ET I didn’t use sprint-strafing while firing due to the loss of accuracy. I only sprint strafed between bursts (although I have to admit that my memory might have been corrupted by some other games).

(MuffinMan) #18

it’s not about sprint but I would be very disappointed if I couldn’t run anymore while shooting…

(BrightSoul) #19

I like the fact that we’ll have unlimited stamina and I think it’s necessary.
Since the maps are so big and since the game features flying menaces, the infantry has to be put in condition of running from point A to point B always at the max speed in order to avoid enemy fire as much as possible.

Said this, you can’t let players fire while sprinting, otherwise everyone will be holding Shift 24/7. What would be the purpose of having run and sprint then? More than anything, I don’t want ET:QW resemble a deathmatch game.

(Lanz) #20

More or less what I was about to write, I agree completely with this.
