Trick jump question

(ARES) #1

Can you jump to that place: http://www.geocities.com/springfont/index.htm

The trick movies I watched didn’t show such a trick jump. Does it work? If yes, how? Whats the trick?

(ETplayer) #2

it would help if the screenies would work :bored:

nice, is the 2nd screenie of u on the ledge that the arrow is pointing 2 in the first

(ARES) #7

I don’t understand what you mean.

(ETplayer) #8

i dont think u can get up there, if u cant get there as a spectator u cant get there at all. What u could try is lowering the grav and see if its possible.
I know that spot is possible from the inside of the building --> when u look up theres that big hole . but from the outside i dont think so

ETplayer has a good tip there: If you want to find out if it is possible to go to or to jump to an area, then you “fly” there as a spectator. As spectator, you then “feel” the invisible walls that limits the players “space”.

You win the “Cutest Trick Jumper” Award.

I think its a cheap trick of Splashdamage to use invisible barriers.

If players are not supposed to get to a special place, then the map maker should design the map accordingly instead of using invisible barriers.

Future games will use physics engine where the map is dynamic. Then you can blow up everything which means dynamic maps with infinite variations and possibilities. Invisible barriers should only be placed to limit the map borders, not to prevent someone to jump to a place where he normally could jump according to Newton’s laws.

I like maps which allow me to camp. I played the map Facing Worlds (Unreal Tournament) a lot because it supported good camping. I like ET, but I am missing camping places. I think even critics of camping could agree if these places are hard to reach, e.g. if you need to be skilfull to get there by trick jumping. Thats what made me play Quake 3 Team Arena Maps for months. Yes, I am a natural born camper.

You want your money back?

Invisible barriers should only be placed to limit the map borders, not to prevent someone to jump to a place where he normally could jump according to Newton’s laws.

And who should define the map borders?

You are still awake?

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHA

Let me get this straight.

You don’t like invisible walls because they:

  • allow the mappers to easy remove exploits without having to add more geometry and hence make the game unplayably jerky.
  • Block you from doing legitimate movements supported by NEWTONS LAWS, for example - trickjumping/bunnyhopping/strafejumping.

You also ramble off topic with some rubbish about dynamic maps ( different issue dude ).

DUDE. OMG, stand back and LOOK AT YOUR POST :eek2: :eek2:

Wheres the fun in that?

ok. heres a little somthing on compition play. do you know why i like these little special places as you call them. BECAUSE THEY ALLOW FOR A MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER GAME!!! if you think all you see is all you should get than i think you shouldnt play the game anymore, if you want maps like that than go play cs. there basic and hey ya know what? all you see is all you get.
I like all the little notches and “special places” that were put into this game, and i think every other gamer does too. it adds a lot more diversity to it and makes high level gameplay about 100x better.

I like maps which allow me to camp

God dammit you suck! :bash:

I like ET, but I am missing camping places. I think even critics of camping could agree if these places are hard to reach, e.g. if you need to be skilfull to get there by trick jumping

so you think because you suck at camping in et and cant do some basic trick jumps, its bad?

go play gammajump.

Yes, I want “what you see is what you get”. Whats so bad about it?

As a catholic someone may not support everything the pope says but he still is a catholic. Who would tell them: “Become Scientologist if you don’t agree with this and that.” Does this example open your eyes?

If you don’t want to discuss it, don’t participate in this thread. No “killer phrases” are allowed in my threads.

I think they designed the map not only considering gameplay but also considering aesthetics. Then to keep it look nicer, they used invisible barriers. Thats how I explain it to myself.

For example in the map battery it would be possible (if Newton’s laws were respected) to jump from outside to where the gun controls are. But you can only walk on the outer side of the gun and not jump inside it. This is said to all who know how to get there with trick jumping. And there are many other examples.

I simply prefer this map design philosophy: Using no invisible barriers except for outer border. Quake 3 Team Arena had no other invisible borders than the outer borders. Same with Unreal and Unreal Tournament. And same with Counter Strike I think. To me these invisible borders are a bad style, like dog-ears in books.

(ETplayer) #19

if u dont like the game , GTFO this forum and uninstall ET

Else stop bitching / moaning about some friggin invisable barrier, WHY THE HELL DONT U GO CODE UR OWN GODDAMN GAME WITH DYNAMIC SHIT IN IT. punkass

So its very simple, uninstall or stop bitching :chef:

 the mighty banana has spoken
