I really like it
Tribes assend is showing us the way
Shankers is my username.
Had quick couple of rounds, skiing is nice, you can plot some nice paths with the hills and such. Managed to get a few kills but all were when other player was falling to ground, not managed any midair shots, that will be tough to learn.
Need to find key layout that is comfortable, getting strain quite quickly at the moment.

I pretty much etqw’ed it to death, with jet on left shift, space as ski, right click as zoom. Then all weapon binds on mouse, and rest dotted around wasd. Seems alright for me
Apoc: any chance you got more of those keys left? Chris was talking about the game on irc and I got interested. If you have more keys I’d be delighted to get pwned in that game If not then no worries.
I must say it takes a lot of time to get used to it. Also i earned 1k tokens yesterday so it would take 15 days just to unlock one class, madness.

Pathfinder and juggernaught are half that, i <3 pathfinder.
But yea, its a grind, but thats how they encourage people to pay. But there isnt much reason to, Soldier is pretty much the strongest class on the game. The unlockable classes are more “interesting” than better. In fact, heres a run down of the 2 unlocked classes from my limited experience:
Soldier:
Medium body type. All rounder. Spinfuser is main weapon in the game projectile based weapon, good range, high damage when mastered, requires predictive aiming. Eagle pistol as secondary, medium strength hitscan wep, good for finishing off targets, loses damage over range but can still be useful to clip fleeing targets so they dont regen. Medium speed, decent energy, enough health to require 2 spinfuser hits to die, can diskjump for extra speed while sacrificing health. 2 XL grenades, good high damage general grenades.
Ranger:
Medium body type. More specialised to closer ranges. Carries a hitscan assualt rifle, med-low damage, but if close and you aim well can take down enemies quite quickly, loses damage quick over distance. Thumper, secondary grenade launcher, shorter range than spinfuser, but higher projectile speed, good damage but short range is its weakness. Can be used to grenade jump. Rangers have anti personel grenades, extra damage versus infantry, <vrs vehicles/bases.
I have most of the other classes unlocked also, if your interested about one just ask, but cba writing full reviews for all of them at once xD
I like the pathfinder a lot. The jumper is cool because the arrow’s arc allows you to places from angles that you couldn’t with the discs.
The most difficult thing for me at first was figuring out how to best help my team. One thing is that I’m still really bad at chasing down flag carriers. I assume that is the role I will play most often in the future as most people will always want to be the flag carrier themselves. But until I get at a good enough level for that, I am playing as the flag carrier. I hardly ever kill anyone…I just practice my routes…keep grabbing the flag and hope that our flag is still there when I get back.
I’ve also played some as a technician just defending the generator, which is a pretty good beginner role.
Anyway, I hope to find a role to specialize in so that I can play with a decent clan. I feel like I am too far behind all the Tribes veterans.
Heh, to get tech you need to play 15 days and i doubt anyone is a beginner by that time.
I like chasing the flag carriers if they aren’t being grabbed by some mega pro guy going 250kph. I seem to get the spinfusor prediction right for straight moving targets but the repetitiveness of the terrain really bothers me when they’re going up hills and i’m high above.

I got in beta by getting the Starter Pack. (I think only Starter Pack people get beta keys for friends.) Anyway, with the Starter Pack we pretty much got enough gold for half of the classes, so I bought tech as one of those.
Well, in Tribes it may take more than 15 days to graduate into intermediate level…I don’t know, since I’m definitely still a beginner.
Depends on the game I guess. In CoD you are probably no longer a beginner once you have played each map once. In Brink, it probably takes 15 hours to be intermediate and 80 hours to be veteran. In Killzone 2, it takes maybe 100 hours to no longer be a beginner, and 500 hours to be veteran. In games like Quake 3/Live or Counter-Strike…hell, I don’t even want to think about it
The old Tribes had people who built turrets and repaired, heavies who stood on the flag, heavies who tried to keep the opponents flag stand clear, cappers, midfielders, light defensive players who try to take out the heavy offensive players, and snipers.
Apparently, in this game, turrets and generators aren’t really that worth it, at least on the maps provided so far… Raiders supposedly are better at clearing out the flag stand than heavies are…and Rangers are ideal for chasing down flag carriers. I have seen plenty of people playing the Heavy on Flag position though. I played Juggernaut for a while (I don’t have Raider yet), just mortar striking the flag stand from far away so that the capper could fly through it. I’ve been in games where one team dominated because of their Heavy on the Flag, and the fact that the other team never had anyone focus on keeping him off.
Really nice of you Apoc giving away that many beta keys. If you still have some or will be getting new ones I would love to try out the game
I must say i’m liking it more each day. I know it’ll take me about a month to actually get used to this game, but it’s just how i remembered tribes, a fun fast game. Although i dislike the shrike a bit. People mostly use it to run down people who fly and chase flag carriers. It’s pretty much impossible to land a spinfusor on it if it’s not hovering or coming straight at you. There should be some base turrets with lock-on against these.
Is that what the rocket launcher is fo-owait… Having some fun with this game so far although mostly useful when other nooblets are playing. Got a cap and two critical returns for a nice comeback in one game. CTF is such a great game type. Never played tribes but it’s good to be back to capping flags again.
Doombringer class is pretty much an all map anti vehicle turret. If your having trouble with shrikes then your team needs a doombringer, they cant do anything while getting constant lock on misiles, they have no decoys. I felt the same about them, but i just unlocked doombringer and now if there are any in the air i just quickly swap, take em down then swap back. Really every team should have a heavy on flag, and doombringer is one of the best for it, with its shield and chaingun, so hopefully when teams start actually using HoF then shrikes will be significantly less useful
