Tribes assend is showing us the way

(INF3RN0) #41

I am looking forward to testing TA when my new PC arrives and school finals end :D! Will post up some vid footage when that day comes as well.

Thanks for the key tangoliber, much appreciated.

Downloading the client, but I won’t have time to get stuck in until this evening.

Took about 30 mins to install, because imo the HiCommand is a POS and it kept updating before i could ever run the game. Eventually got to play it and i can’t get the hang of the movement :frowning:

(Apoc) #44

 yea, you just have to be patient, i made the same mistake before, some reason when installing it looks like its finished before it actually has. Meh Hicommand aint that bad, i like that it doesnt insist that it constantly runs in the backgound and is so easy to turn off.

Also yea movement, shooting, diskjumping, tactics, etc all hard to get used to. I think thats why i like it so much, last few games i play, i install, start playing and am on the top of the leaderboard in my first ever match. Thats not how it should be, in tribes you will get raped for the first few matches. Takes practice and intellegence to play, im really enjoying the challenge tbf!

(Dthy) #45

Is there a tutorial on how to move? I know it’s manly to not use them but it’s less manly to fail.

(Apoc) #46

 there is an ingame movement tutorial.
Although my advice is, bind jump/jetpack to left shift or whatever you used in ETQW for icarus jet, bind space to ski (or whatever you used in etqw). Then its pretty much like flying an icarus, except you lose speed skiing uphill.

So ski down slopes to gain speed, jet up slopes. Keeping momentum is key.

This is a good general tutorial vid for whole game

otherwise just search round the net, or come on ts and ill help xD

Also guys post your ingame nick so i can add you/you add me.

I think tribes-like mouse2 for jetpack suits better for me, but i’ll see. Too long i haven’t played tribes. Surely i must spend a week on getting instinctive in skiing as i see most people fail the slopes when they have to shoot at someone also.

(tangoliber) #49

I use “tangoliber” for Tribes.

(Apoc) #50

Btw any advice on what i should record some footage with? im a complete noob with this stuff

(Kendle) #51

In-game nick = Kendle, although I couldn’t register a login account with that name as it said it was taken ??

I find movement reasonably intuitive, although I can’t make up my mind which keys to use, I’m currently using “sprint” for “ski” and “crouch” for “jetpack” but can’t help thinking it ought to be the other way round!

Momentum is definately the key though, there’s a few maps where you pick up so much speed the most difficult part is making sure you pick up the enemy flag as you whizz past at a few 100 mph.

My name is Promethean

(Boktor) #53

I played Tribes 2 years ago and I must say, this game does justice to the name Tribes. I’m not a big fan of free-to-play models, but it’s nicely made.

I remember hearing they were planning to release the game on the XBox360, but they postponed it. I also noticed that the PC version isn’t a mess - take note devs everywhere!!
