trap_R_LoadDynamicShader in 2.55?

Hey everyone, is there any way to emulate the trap_R_LoadDynamicShader call in 2.55’s engine?

As far as I know, it is implemented in the 2.6 engine and thus out of reach for mod coders.

Not to forget the mandatory warning that 2.55 contains some “unsafe” stuff.

Yup I know, but there are still some idiots that play 2.55 and I need to accomodate for custom shaders without having it in a pk3 file.

why should we update? ^^ ( i have both versions and dont find any reason why i should not play anymore on 2.55)

call me an idiot that i enjoy better 2.55 than 2.60. After playing 3 years mostly on 2.55, i suck at 2.60, yeah that’s true. Just a matter of choice, other way the 2.55 servers run very good. And PB updates like 2.60 (someone said on this forum, 2.55 doesn’t get anymore support - who is the idiot? ). And guess what, there are also servers on 2.56. Just getting tired of people flaming without a reason.

there are no gameplay diffrences between 2.55 and 2.6 - at least not the minor ones. maybe you like to use some bugs, to get unfair advantage?

like i said servers run very well on 2.55. You can set up a server just like in 2.60 (except etpro) . Recently i tried some 2.60 servers, and i fell the movement on 2.55 is much smoother than 2.60. Maybe just because i’m used to this version.

Going reeeeeeeeeally off topic… But what the hell.

It’s really not that much different apart from you have many bugfixes, stability security etc etc, we/I arn’t flaming, you are an idiot to not update in all fairness, it’s like running Word 97 nowadays, apart from it’s free. Infact the best comparison I think would be somebody running Phoenix 0.1 (First version of Firefox) as opposed to Firefox 3.0.1, when there’s many many many many many many security fixes, new features (like trap_R_LoadDynamicShader!!!) and so much more in the new version. Hence the ‘idiot’ statement still stands, sorry if that offends you.

In my opinion the only idiots are those people, who call others idiots… or have you ever asked a person who prefers playing 2.55 why he does?
Here some reasons why many people like 2.55…

  • The first thing is, on 2.55 are about 500 servers in the list…
    On 2.6b are about 3000 (!) servers…and most of them are the whole day empty…
    On both versions are nearly the same amount of players, so if you start a new server the chance to get at least some players on 2.6b is nearly zero…
    I know many clans who started in 2.55 and moved to 2.6b…but it failed and so they moved back to 2.55.
    I am a server admin and we have got servers on 2.55 and 2.6b and i don’t like the bugs in 2.55, without them my life would be much easier…but the best used servers are the 2.55 servers…most players are there.
    Another thing is, on 2.6b are many pro players, maybe 70-80% of them. And on 2.55 are many beginners, some call them noobs… but everybody has started playing once… On 2.55 most players play to have fun, not to make a competition…
    and that is the biggest adventage of 2.55… the fun!

And by the way, do all of you who uses windows…have you got all running Vista??? It is the newest and safest windows ever… Or would you call everybody who uses XP or Win98 an idiot?

You know… anybody who knows something could crash your server or do anything they like on 2.55, even on 2.60b you could crash a serv when you like it, but there are fixes for it.
Because you say you have never seen anything bad happen to your serv means that you are lucky!
Give me some serverstats that there are like only empty servs on 2.60b because all i see are quite populated and when empty, one person and the serv fills.
Please update to the latest ET and when using etpro give it the .lua fixes, thats all what i ask from people, because w/o the .lua-s on etpro servs, one single command is enough to crash a server.
I have yet to see a good reason why people choose security over [enter_not_good_reason_here].
The fact is, 2.60b is better than 2.55. If you dare to stick on 2.55 then read the changelogs of 2.60+2.60b and see what dangers surround your server.

See there’s a difference, in my post you’ll see how I stated that ET is free (Or isn’t it?) and as such so are the updates.

There is no reason to stay on 2.55 and what you’re listing are just tiny little tidbits because you can’t think of anything else.

Yeah you can also get rcon/ref passwords (no I’m not talking about the downloadfile bug) extremely easily.

Sorry no I have another comment which makes more sense, ET 2.55 -> ET 2.60b is like XP Gold -> XP SP2. To be quite frank with you, yes, anybody running XP Gold/XP SP1 is an idiot, so I guess you’re half right.

Think of it this way:
ET 2.55 -> ET 2.60b = XP Gold -> XP SP2
ET -> ET:QW = XP -> Vista

Hope that clears your silly comeback up.

EDIT: P.S. My 2.60b servers fill up easily.
