first i didnt want to post coz i thought background and matter of the debate is obvious. but after a guy said everything exactly i (and many ppl!) thought and in following posts got completely ignorantly misunderstood i think i must join… (xD!)

im gotten so angry of the ignorance and “stupidity to understand” of all the 2.60 preferers dumbass posts here…(no i dont say they are; i like evrybody here and have problems w/ nobody; its only their posts here amd now!!)
sunny with that above posts said well. its the exact truth and the situation; and the answer.
and even he admitted, everybody would love to move on 2.60 but they cant. im sure he knows about the changelog and security etc but its really “amazing” to see how totally you could miss and bagatellize his points and arguments…

its *ing not about game play differences(almost zero) or that of 255 being better than 260 (nobody thinks this ; everybody knows what u think they dont know).

p.s.: a quite probable “reason to the reasons” (metareason ?^^) is that 1; most widely spread mirrored etc installers are 255. 2; who starts playing on 255 meets up fellow players there and slowly as getting te game they starting forming communities and friendships; becoming a “regular”. they wont move to the “nothing” the “void”, the “unknown”. and 3;they are noobs, not only in et but pc noobs, dont care about downloading patches, applying them, security, etc… i look down and angry on this pc user type heavily but its undenyable that lots of users are like this.
and they have fun there. and its good.

myslelf also knowing a server where admins friendly everything nice etc and thery have 255 and 260 too but 260 is always empty. they also had efforts to make their players from 55 to 6 but all failed. they arent noobs know the way (announcemets; auto and by admins; forum; warinngs, etc) but players simply didnt go.

its about different communities; playing styles; palyer attitudes; similar like being with similar; etc. and somewhy on 255 the funplayers and on 60 the more skilled gather. problably coz etnoobness and proness linked with general pc noobness/other. (btw im an et noob but not pc noob.) i think situation is quite understandeable…

p.s. i repeat myself third time in 2 posts but to make clear; this above picture is not cased by any technical properties of the patches itself but probably “3rd party”, outside reasons; maybe most heavy influence is widespreadness of 255 installer. ah and dont say bs abot there are many 260 installers I know and YOU know but come on what about most noobs??
p.s ever thinked why are so many patch selector? well its not a justifiction it jsut means there is strong base behind the old; but it must have reasons whatever it be.

well sunny and aa3 explained what i thought should be obvious for some to know, or at least understand finnaly. seems not. rudi, ( i prefer calling you “rude”) i believe you have no clue what the above guys explained…but no worry, at least you have a full server. ever thought what will happen if all the 2.55 idiots come to full up your server? ii’ll tell you, you’ll have a ***in idiot server.

You all have no technical explaination and hence are mostly wrong which basically proves my point…

And from my point it seem’s you are a bit, i don’t know the right word in english, lets say you are bit stupid, because you don’t understand or better, you don’t WANT to understand other people. You are 100% right, that there is no technical reason why to play 2.55. 2.6b is better because it’s newer and has got bugfixes included. No question. But can you imagine, that there are maybe other non-technical reasons to play 2.55? Do you decide every decision you make in your life from the technical side? I don’t think so…
And now from the technical side, i am a server admin for about 2 years. That’s not a long time, but i never had any problems on 2.55 with a hacker or something else. And there are ways to make a 2.55 server more secure. And as someody posted, there are problems on 2.6b, too. So 2.6b isn’t 100% secure. It’s is more secure then 2.55. I have always heard from possibilities to shut down 2.55 server easily or get rcon and so on. But i never got a proof for it. Everybody talks about it. Thats all. It is always a statement from 2.6b admins, but without proof.
Let’s make a deal, you try to get an rcon or maybe shutdown one of my 2.55 servers…

there was a movie on youtube where ‘hacker’ was showing how to crash a 2.55 server. i will check if i have it in my ‘favourites’.

Sure, what’s your server’s IP? I’d love you give you problems with hackers and shut it down, jesus.

For such a simple question to if there was a possible way to emulate dynamic shader loading this has turned into a right thread, I’ll make a new one :wink:

for your informational, there is a fix against the malicious server attack (fixed in 2.60b indeed). this was made to correct older versions of the game. for all q3 engines.
