too much of a grind...

As a new player, getting unlockable characters takes to much time 200 cash for a full round of stopwatch while being third in points? Insane. And paying 5 euro’s for a simple character is rediculous aswel & turns me off into actually spending money in this game for asking such steep prices…

(Ardez1) #2

Payout is primarily based on time spent in game. 12 credits per minute is the guaranteed rate. Bonuses for missions and skill are added as well.

A full round of stopwatch(30 minutes) would total up to a minimum of 360 credits not including missions or skills.

Unfortunately a team that does exceptionally well with a short time actually gets a smaller payout. If you beat a map in 5 minutes and the enemy teams hits the timer then a total of 10 minutes = 120 credits instead.

Focus on missions to earn the most credits.

And honestly the price of the mercs is fairly worth it imho. But you should really look at the Ultimate Starter Pack if you think you enjoy the game. If you don’t enjoy playing the game don’t bother with it in the first place. Your time is best spent in a game you like. Don’t play to grind, play for fun.

I know several people who love the game and have all of the mercs they want without spending a single dime on the game. They just play it a lot because they love to play it.

I disagree strongly, You can do a lot with 5 euro’s and definatly more with 10 euro’s. I could buy a good game on sale with that money. Asking that price for a fictional character is just to much in my eyes…

What your saying makes sense, except that DB is F2P and nobody is required to spend money on it. What you spend is up to you.

You buy a game for 10 Euros and it turns out to be terrible? Oh well. Not like it was a super expensive game.

You play a free game and enjoy it(or if it is terrible you just stop playing with no loss on your part). You can either spend money to unlock a character you think you will really like(or that you tried during free rotation) or you can simply play the game and earn the content over time.

That is the beauty of this system. You pay exactly what you want OR you can just earn everything for 100% free. Yes, the grind may take some time to get to where you want to be, but in the end you still didn’t spend ANY money. The Devs need some system to encourage spending money and this is the current system they have chosen. Who knows, maybe it will become 100% cosmetic only later? Right now though, it isn’t.

Every game in existence is virtual with essentially no impact on real life besides parting gamers from their money. Rarely is a game created to not part gamers from their money. Developing a community and making friends is mostly a side affect of game releases.

I bought a book last week for $7.99. It is entirely fictional, so why did I spend the money on something that will last me 2-3 days that I may never pick up again? Because I enjoy it and I determined that it was an acceptable cost for another human beings hard work.

Earlier in the Closed Beta I bought Bushwhacker for $10. He is entirely fictional, so why did I spend the money on him? Because I thought I would enjoy playing him. Turns out I did and I have a large portion of my in-game time as Bushwhacker. With over 200+ hours in Dirty Bomb I feel like I have got my money’s worth out of the game and more.

Another example, I purchased Battlefield 4 when it was new and quit about 10 ingame hours later. I haven’t picked up the game and played it since. Because it was a PC purchase it isn’t like I can trade it in or sell it. I know for a fact I didn’t get $60 of enjoyment out of that game.

Sorry for the two posts.

I guess it’s a good thing that you don’t rely only on credits per round to gain credits and instead get refreshing missions and daily obj/stopwatch/win bonuses. If you do two mission refreshes and get the daily bonuses you can easily get 6-10k worth of credits based on the mission values and how many games you play. This might feel grindy to you but that is the trade-off with free to play. You can pay the price of what would be a full retail game and unlock pretty much everything right now or you can play and unlock things as you go. Also, $60 titles like BF require you to grind classes to unlock pretty much everything.

(feveredWindow) #7

Gotta protect the money for the business, right Ardez? Lol.

(Mr-Penguin) #8

I find that if you get the missions and the daily bonuses done, you can get about 5000 credits or so in a single 3 hour mission rotation. I’ve already bought one merc and have enough for another one and a loadout card- all in about 2 weeks or so. The grind isn’t as bad as a lot of other games. Like Ardez said, play for fun, not to grind.

Hmm? I don’t work for Nexon nor do I work for Splash Damage. I’m just a fan who happens to be dedicated enough to become a forum moderator. Everything I have said here comes from me personally.

No the price of mercs if not FAIRLY worth. The cost of 5.99 should be reduced to 4.99. The price tag is 9.99 is fine as it is… 5.99 price tag is annoying and over priced for 30k costing merc…

TBH, that price tag of 5.99 is what stopped me from buying those mercs ! (if it was 4.99 , i wouldave bought 2 mercs)

[/quote]

What stopped me from paying the 5.99 price was the Merc Starter pack that gives them to you at a reduced price.

That’s the thing, right now you can… Now is beta. Upon release we’ll have 13 $10 mercs plus the starter pack for $30 which is a $160 game. That’s not reasonable! Even Evolve was cheaper to unlock everything in at launch than that.

Sure we’ll probably get more packs down the line, and I don’t expect to unlock all the content in a F2P game for the price of a full priced game, but $10 for a single character is excessive. Not to mention they’ll keep adding new mercs after launch as well.

Lets be completely honest here, $60 games all try to get you to spend $100-150 total before all is said and done. Ubisoft even wants players to play $200 and they were proud of telling investors that (matter of public record).

I have every merc unlocked right now. I bought the merc starter pack for $20, Bushwacker for $10 and Rhino for $10. I also have 120,000 credits and 25 cases sitting and we still have another week until the next character is unlocked. So, for $40, I am way ahead of the release schedule and most likely will never have to pay for a character or even a good loadout again if I keep playing casually/efficiently and assuming the current system remains. If I spend money in the future it’s because I will do it to help support Splash Damage and the game I enjoy and not because I’m being forced to.

Also, SD has already put mercs on sale too and they are most likely going to be creating bundles in the future that will also, most likely, go on sale at some point. And you don’t have to get EVERY merc. This is like being upset at Riot for how League of Legends works. Of course the counter argument to that is Dota2 gives you access to all of their characters but Valve is also working off of an entirely different ecosystem that no other company in the world can even try to rely on.

(Derpfestor) #15

I got a Cobalt Skyhammer without paying a cent…

(stealthyBass) #16

I’ve got every merc besides Bushwhacker and Rhino without paying any money. Those two I’m just not interested in so I haven’t spent the C to get them and in one more mission rotation I’ll have enough to buy next weeks new merc.

(brawnyJester) #17

Oh man playing the game WHAT A GRIND OMGGGG

(elegantRoyalty) #18

well i would say if it is a grind at all then you are possibly playing for progress and not for fun? arent you just going to stop when you do unlock everything you want. why waste your time grinding?

play two one hour sessions with fresh quests will come out with around 6-7k a day from that. you get what 50k free? then 2 free mercs that are both very good basic role fillers and is it 2 or 3 mercs on free now?

if you dont want to spend anything then you have to pay in time keeping the servers busy

(Gestankfaust) #19

I never thought of online FPS games as a grind. If you are playing them that way, I’m sorry…

(Old Man) #20

While I understand you don’t like the pricing, unlocking characters isn’t that bad. So far I bought only one merc and one loadout, simply because I wanted it and spending around 10 Euro on a game I had spent 40 hours wasn’t a bad deal and I doubt I will spend more.

I have played 70 hours and have 3 more merc unlocked just with in-game gold. Pay attention to missions and play at least one game a day (you get something like 500 gold just for that and 500 gold for the first won game of the day). Missions rewards are anywhere between 500 (?) to 1000 gold and you can do multiple in one day (they have a < 2 hours cooldown).

I suggest you aim for one merc per class to get out the most of the game.
One medic - you got Aura, one support - you got Skyhammer, one assualt (Fragger or Nader), one engineer, one recon - at this point there is only Vassili.
