to Steam, or not to Steam

(murka) #21

As long as there is a resellable version, i’ll buy pretty much anything to try the game and sell it on(made profit with some games such as cod).

(LyndonL) #22

Resellable?!? :open_mouth:

(Reanimator) #23

Physical copy of the game right?

(Brandmon) #24

No for Steam only, that’s silly. But yeah I wouldn’t mind the game just having Steam support.

(ispellcorrectly) #25

you couldn’t sell on your steam game unless you was to sell on your account, in my case I have too many games to just sell one, im ticking just under 50 games on steam, I love the way you never loose them, like I bought BF2142 a few years ago from EA store, now I don’t have access to download it, because they only give you a 2 years download limit.

(light_sh4v0r) #26

note: selling Steam accounts is illegal.

(ispellcorrectly) #27

why? I bought those games

(Nail) #28

nope, you paid for a non-transferrable license to use certain software, very different than buying a physical disk. Plus check with steam, part of the EULA states you can’t sell an account

(light_sh4v0r) #29

You may not reveal, share or otherwise allow others to use your password or Account. You agree that you are personally responsible for the use of your password and Account and for all of the communication and activity on Steam that results from use of your login name and password. You may not sell or charge others for the right to use your Account, or otherwise transfer your Account.

From the Steam EULA here

(AnthonyDa) #30

I’m quite sure that you get the same licence (to use the software only) when buying the material version.

(Nail) #31

yes, but you also get a physical piece of property that you can sell

(LyndonL) #32

Why would you ever part with your copy of Brink? Unthinkable :stuck_out_tongue:

[QUOTE=H0RSE;221925]here is the video where Rahdo talks about going with Steam. It’s a long video, and he talks about at the end, at like 35:05. He also says something about having/wanting Linux support. He talks about dedicated servers and Linux again at 24:56.

very good interview. didnt see this yet.

I hope for the fanboys there will be a physical copy, so they can sleep with it every night.

I wonder though since Valve has announced that they will be porting steam over to Mac, will SD then if there will be a Mac version, also distribute it over Steam for the Mac folks.

I have absolutely no use for Steam, as an alternative distribution method, it’s great, but if it’s required I’ll just play something else.

I refuse allowing a third party dictate what I install on my computer, I allow punkbuster, because I can monitor what it reads and it doesn’t affect my ability to use the software I own licenses for

I have multiple external hard drives, I can keep copies of all my game disks on 1 and always have access, if Steam validation servers go down (which has happened) I can still play, Steam players can’t (in most cases)

sorry if that might offend some Steam fanpersons

(BeyondSpectrality) #37

See, my dream for Brink is that I will be able to buy the hard copy of Brink and attach it to steam. So I can use the in-game chat with my friends on Steam. But I don’t want it to be Steam required…

And of course have the digital steam version too.

(tp) #38

Steam + Brink + Mac OS X (because Steam is ported to this plateform) (+Linux : easy port)
Please!

(tokamak) #39

I wouldn’t even care if it would turn Steam required, I just want the pretty jewel case.

(brbrbr) #40

Steam ? what for ?
no way, i hope.
