So I’ve heard SD talking about putting Brink on Steam and not going with GFWL, I even heard Rahdo talking about it in a video, yet when you look at the bottom of the Brink website, it has the GFWL logo. What gives SD, Steam or not?
to Steam, or not to Steam
That’s true but not relevant with regards to DarkAngel’s statement. As far as I know, Steam requirement/features in Brink were mentioned once in an article.
here is the video where Rahdo talks about going with Steam. It’s a long video, and he talks about at the end, at like 35:05. He also says something about having/wanting Linux support. He talks about dedicated servers and Linux again at 24:56.

I really hope it’s Steamified…I like being able to install Steam and have my stuff ready to go…even if I have a hard copy too.
I’ve bought most of my games through Steam in the past year. I’ll definitely want the hard copy, though it would be great if it could be set on steam as well. I’m not sure what the marketing implications are though.
I have bought most of my games through steam in the past year too, but what I have noticed, I have a game called burnout paradise, and on the criterion website they have an update for the cars, I cannot install that because it doesn’t know where my install is, ‘because I bought it via steam’, it instantly believes the game is not installed.
I love the way steam beats a hard copy because you have unlimited access to download it any time you feel like it and only you can get it when you log onto your account, but then a hard copy can give you a manual, a collector’s edition and even a shiny new box
I will definitely be buying this game in a hard copy, but may consider buying this on steam as well.
+1 for Steam PLEASEEEEEEEEE SD
It’s the only medium I use for buying games anymore.
thanks, horse.
The path should look something like “C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\burnout paradise”
Also, Steam is supposed to be keeping it’s games up to date. You can go to your list of games on the steam program and rightclick on a game and see the option “view update news” to see what updates steam has been doing for the game. You can also disable updates by rightclicking a game on the same list and going to “properties” > updates.

path to find wasn’t a problem, but thank you anyway, the installer automatically looks for the folders a hard copy would have installed them to, so its kinda bogus!
But I will be buying another QW on steam just for keep sakes, this way I will forever have the game on my steam account!
I don’t mind steam as an update and commercial distribution system, but any further than that and it start getting annoying.
With steam you can get hell of some problems too… you can’t play the game without internet…
Like MW2! Sometimes my connection is lost to steam ( I have no idea why ) and I get the message ‘disconnected from steam’ and shit… can’t play any further!
Above that, some friends of me got like screwed over, there steam account is banned for fraude because they bought the games somewhere online etc and after that the company reported them… some weird story.
I prefer the old way… just a key code so I can play when I want without the dependence of steam.
About the security, well, whatever, if the game is only keycode (+dvd protected) it won’t make any difference between the steam stuff security.
Lots of illegal gamers on MW2 just play through iw.net online without steam…
This is such a stupid though by the game industry… they think idiot protections will help but after all always the fair gamers will get the problems… Fair gamers and messed up with steam… illegal gamers can play where and when they want!
I hope SD has some smart people unlike some other companies!
Say no to “steam only” release, but I don’t see any reason to not release it along dvd version of the game (DRM free edition).
