To all the K/D haters out there...

(Cha0tikz) #21

Quake Live on Xbox. I didn’t use this gamertag when I use to play Q2.

(RadBrad31) #22

Is that the same way you keep track of the people you’ve gunned down IRL?

I don’t hate K/D, but I like how Splash Damage is treating it. I haaaate at the end of a game of Blops where someone will look at a score and say “Man that guy suuuuucks because he’s under 1.00 K/D!”. That guy may have been defending a post that wasn’t attacked much. Or spent more time shooting down spy planes/counter-spy planes. You can’t judge people on K/D and I’m tired of people being made fun of because their’s isn’t high, but they still contributed their fair share to the team.

Good topic Cha0tikz.

(boozee84) #23

personally i dont’t care much about my k/d, i just want to get the job done and go for objectives!

(RadBrad31) #24

Welcome to a favored minority of online gamers, have a cookie and some tea!

(boozee84) #25

well thanks! i guess we’re a dying breed!

(Ninjat_126) #26

In Blops, I always like seeing a high K/D at the end of a match. But that’s Blops. Even then, I’d still get heaps of XP from shooting down spy planes and helicopters, throwing flashbangs through doors and doing other support roles like that. K/D only counts kills, not the number of people you’ve blinded or the number of planes you blew up.

(RadBrad31) #27

Which is exactly why I like that Brink doesn’t judge you by K/D, but by how much you contributed to the team.

Thanks! I just wanted to share with you that my overall K/D before trading away BLOPS was a 1.67. I didn’t care in the beginning so I was using absolutely ridiculous guns. By the time I hit 7th prestige I had so many kills that even if I went 10 games straight with 40 kills and 5-10 deaths it still wouldn’t move.

Just to pump my own tires, when I stopped acting like an idiot with horrible weapons I couldn’t compete with (even though running around in a Demolition map with a pistol out is pretty fun) I averaged a 3.00 K/D with 35-40 kills a game, and usually top three with objective points. That’s why I was trying to explain that K/D isn’t everything but it’s fun to have around when you want to see if you are improving.:stroggtapir:

K/D matters in every shooter whether ppl want to accept it or not
ppl who play for K/D give ppl who have legit high K/Ds a bad rep

im a heavy obj player and i kill alot as well, i dont make stupid rushes for the objective. When im with my team we try to kill off the enemy and setup on the objective and look to defend it. U need ppl who can shoot and defend themselves in order to win against clans. This is a shooter 1st and foremost so if a guy is spending most of his time incapped then he is actually holding back ur team. When i recruit players i recruit based on

1.teamwork
2.communications
3. skill (k/d, ability to keep yourself alive and needing minimal assistance)

K/D for me shows me the likely hood of someone making it to the objective from spawn.
if a guy has a 2.0 ratio means he is more likely to advance further on the map and wont need as much babysitting as someone with a 0.5 ratio.

Altho there are ppl who will sit and ignore the objective to pad their kdrs thats not the type of ppl i recruit, i recruit objective minded skilled ppl but sadly ppl mainly notice the high kdr ppl as those that dont play obj which isnt true :frowning:

Is this just speculation or is it confirmed? I thought they wouldn’t show kill stats anywhere, which was exactly what i hoped for.

(tokamak) #31

Why does killing deserve a special statistic? There’s tons of things you can do that contribute towards the final goal and yes, killing is one of them. All these things are measured in xp and it’s xp that indicates how useful you’ve been to your team.

Lurker posting alert.

Hey guys thought i should post on this aswell being a K/D whore from CoD but on PC. i like what brink has done regarding the K/D. i can see it in my stats but not ingame, so no more “my team sucks bacuase K/D is crap” comments, of which i admit i used to be an offender. hopefully BRINK will introduce me to a new more friendly community but with its share arses (no community is complete without a balance of good/bad).

I completely agree with this feature, i like my stats but i don’t want the other guys stats used to slap me when i do bad.

Can’t wait for this game.

(GR0MIT) #34

LOL, what was your name ?. no doubt i offended you or something, i do that alot

(DoHo) #35

I can’t remember if we actually argued or not, I know I argued with a few trying to defend Counter Strike, lol. I was [ДоХо].

(GR0MIT) #36

LOL aye man, yea i rememeber, we “discussed” crysis 2 and its gfx/gameplay balance.

Did that dirtyninja kid come back with his platinum plated alienware pc “we call them dells in the real world”

(matsy) #37

Whats from stopping you looking at your kills, then looking out your deaths and working out the the ratio yourself? It’s not some magic formula!

I disagree, in the objective game type that is Brink. K/D ratio means nothing!

Deffenders should be getting more kills than deaths and attackers should be getting more deaths than kills. The maps aren’t even so the Deffening team will be getting some sort of advantage, mainly being able to camp the objective. Hence why on RTCW/ET/ETQW the guys who want to just kill play on the deffending side.

I like to rate how well I’m playing depending on my accuracy, in ET it was below 30% was a bad day, 30% was average and 40% was a good day!

lol yea we are capable of doing simple math to work our K/D out, most of us speak for ex cod fans where K/D was important especially in search and destroy, in the games you play its not, but thankfully brink is giving us the option to view our stats in the main menu, but not while playing the maps thenselves

lol
VOIP is off by default and only limited to ur friends sooooo if they show KD and u get made fun of then blame ur choice in friends besides haters always gonna hate ppl know what they did and what they didnt do at the end of the day for me KDR is only good if u helped ur team win but as u said sometimes ppl watch less guarded chokepoints or watch the flanking routes. I use kd as a base for knowing if i should waste my time on a recruit or not.
below 1 application denied, above 1 then we can start looking into a tryout and seeing what u actually do since we know u can at least defend urself

So a Medic applies to your clan, and spends most of his time buffing allies or healing the escort or defending a chokepoint keeping a soldier alive. But his K/D is 0.90 so he’s denied?

K/D is such a bad way to allow or not allow someone in a clan. At least give them the benefit of a game to see if they’re worthy. I’m not saying this because I’m a low K/D player, I’m actually fairly high, but I love the players that put the team before themselves.
