TLR Mapping Contest - 150€ Cashprize

(eiM) #1

Along with their eSports Challenge LAN Event this Summer, British multigaming organisation The Last Resort just announced an Enemy Territory mapping contest including a 150€ cash prize to grab for the winner.

Check their newspost for more details: http://www.tlr-esports.com/news/205/ET-mapping-contest
A similar contest was held years ago by Crossfire for one of their LAN Events. The result of that was the map bremen and thus we can be sure of another success.

Hope there will be some more other entrys along mine, eventhough I intend to win :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, I’ve decided to enter this contest ,

I was wondering if anyone else here on the SD forums - besides eiM, Nukits and me - are planning to participate in this contest? I guess The more people entering the contest, the more maps the ET community will have to play in the end…

However, I am a bit confused about the rules: on theTLS site it says:

The 1st beta edition must be submitted no later than 1st May 2011 at 20:00 GMT

The 2nd beta edition must be submitted no later than 7th June 2011 at 20:00 GMT - (this will be your final version before our LAN in July)

and

Your map must not be made available to anybody else for testing prior to the first deadline.

So, does this mean that after I send my map in as a first beta edition I’m allowed to release my map on public servers to get feedback on how to improve my map, so I can make changes and submit my 2nd beta edition ?

Me but no point now you’re entering :frowning:

Basically yeah, afaik you can hold private tests at any time also, I guess they don’t want public testing before the first deadline as whoever would have finished their map first would potentially have got positive public exposure before anyone else.

The rules are pretty clear on that you must not publish/release your map before the first date. If you want to be strict about it that even means putting it on a password protected server and running a few tests with friends. But as we all know atleast that is what a competition map needs prior to a beta state. So just make sure it is not being leaked to the public as that would surely kick you from the competition.

As far as I know the idea behind the two deadlines also is that TLR will organise test and show matches/cups to promote the maps and get feedback for the mappers.

So far thats all you need to know imo. Any more questions feel free to go ahead and I’ll check with Seanza if I can not help out myself :stuck_out_tongue:

P.S. your maps’ sexyness will beat the crap out of mine

Hohooo nice !

Good luck to you, lads !

(.Chris.) #7

Only few weeks till the first deadline people!

Which sucks as I just restarted the whole first stage of my entry :frowning:

(eiM) #8

Be it a fair fight Chris :stuck_out_tongue:

(Indloon) #9

It’s wonderful news Eim.

I just found it 2011-04-12 but still two weeks remaining to try make 1st beta :penguin:

Q1. Could You share TLR logo or better sample .pk3 with all stuff contest needs ?
Logo is here
http://www.tlr-esports.com/files/download/33

Q2. I understood that map has to be fresh design (build from scratch) but is it possible to include some existing 3rd party models ?

Q3. Any maximal map size limit ?
I always tried to do map filesize as light as possible <5MB. In my opinion small filesize avoids situation when people disconnect during download stage seeing huge 15MB file. Minimize size has some impact for level of details…
But now during broadband internet connection my point of view seems obsolete and download up to 15MB isn’t big problem anymore  I’m sure i will not touch 15MB size but asking about possible limit if any.

(nukits) #11

I think im not able to finish it :x

(eiM) #12
  1. do not have it myself yet. Get it there, photoshop it and put it in a pk3
  2. 3rd party models are no problem unless the model is like 10% of your map :stuck_out_tongue:
  3. none, use as you wish/need

(FireFly) #13

I just finished the first beta of my map and emailed the download link to TLR.
Mapname is “Pirates” and It’s about 8.5 megs in size.

(shagileo) #14

I hope we can see that result pretty soon
Congratulations, FireFly

(Magic) #15

Good luck to you…and to the rest of you that are participatin.
Are you allowed to show some ingame screenshots…a little teaser

(Avoc) #16

Does this news have any influence on the contest?

http://www.crossfire.nu/?x=news&mode=item&id=6709

(shagileo) #17

Seems not:

Nothing changes for the LAN apart from the name. I’m still running it, TLR’s sponsors weren’t involved in it (apart from YCN and they’re still involved). Same goes for the mapping contest, that will still go on as TLR, the prize WILL be given.

(Scorpio) #18

It would be nice to have some new competitions maps. Maybe I’ll try to make something.

(.Chris.) #19

You got about 4 days left…

(shagileo) #20

Failure is not an option

Is there a list of participants?
'T would be cool to see how many people are working on this contest
