hi,
will there be trickjump possibility in Brink ?
Trickjumping means movement using bugs/curiosities of the Quake 3 engine (idtech3). This is idtech4 so there won’t be classic trickjumping but there may be new bug and new jumps.
LOL. Yes, the more complex the movement code, the more chance it will be exploitable. The greater the number of gamers playing the game, the quicker these exploits/bugs will be discovered.
Personally, I hope there is as little of that as possible.
no trick jumping, just trick walking and running, with some climbing
it’s pretty smart

you wanna tell us there are no trickjumps possible in idtech4?
dont know about the rewriten idtech4 in brink but in etqw you can do a lot of trickjumps and thats idtech4.
you play to much cöd4 dude
I will really miss circle and strafejumps in brink. love to move in fast pace.
thats the reason I hate games without doom3 or. etqw idtech4
because other engines feels like you have glue on your feet.:stroggtapir:

Nice vid, I knew only 60% of those. But one jump was a husky jump and there were two strafe series. The rest were all ramp jumps. Not exactly the foundation of a healthy trickjumping scene, huh?
Yes, make the game as skill less as possible. One button do it all, jump over obstacle, dodge bullets, autoheadshot everyone and an instant top player award on everyone else’s screen.
Yes, lets have it so that new players have to spend a week just learning how to move forward at the regular speed, that’ll surely make for a successful and skilled game.
There is certainly room for skilful jumping in the game - for the more advanced combinations of moves, you will have to practice a bit. It’s not for free.
But as Senethro says, Brink has a lot more movement rules than Quake 3 etc. and will feel like a different beast, so it’ll be a new frontier for people trying to max out their movements.
A skill based game might have a tougher learning curve or not, but it does have an increasing curve which doesn’t end anywhere. Games like bfbc2 take a few hrs/days to learn and thow away. Those games must introduce new content quickly and give old players some unlocks/rewards so they are driven to achieve those.
Take example w:et trickjumping. I spent at least 1-2 years on it and didn’t reach a skill-wall. That is replayability and it’s the first thing i look for in a game. I actually felt how the desire to be good made me train hard. Nolifing and earning exp is the exact opposite of this and is IMO condemnable.
A well-thought game also helps the devs. Not having to release new content because the game is self-replenishing by its learning curve. Both new and old people still have something to achieve.
Heres a radical idea. When a player with the lightest body class presses W and Sprint on a flat horizontal surface then that should be the fastest horizontal speed anyone is able to go. They shouldn’t have to be told there are secret rhythms of strafe keys and obscure mouse movements relying on rounding errors required to be a competent player. Not a good player, a competent one.
more Q3-ish approach is no go, IMO.
even UT2004 creators[initially impressed], push back after do it in 2003 sequel to UT.
imo, ETQW degree of TJ is max tolerable ingame for online gaming.
I’ve always liked tricking, it brings further depth to a game for me and expands its lifetime of play. I don’t think there’s any game where tricking gives so much of an upper hand that it’s detrimental to the gameplay. It can give a slight added advantage to the player who practises a lot, but no more than someone practising headshots or nade timing. Tricking for me is something done outwith the normal gameplay, if im on a normal server i play as i should.
TJ is great imo. And it’s not simply for finding new ways to get to get to an objective (getting over obstacles etc), but also for simply being able to get to and away from a location a lot faster. If I need to get the objective its strafe/circle for corners, as well as if I need to get the hell out :). Most of the time TJ doesn’t do much to throw off the balance of a game, but it is definitely a learning curve.
You are fail ? Chris was speaking about the huge list of known exploits who existed in previous SD games. He just want that BRINK doesn’t comes with shitload of exploits too, something wrong this that ?
Or you aren’t responding to his post and just post something already said multiple time
/fail
The problem with exploits is that they’ve usually circumvented the original tested and are thus left out of the balance. I’m all for rewarding insanely difficult ‘tricks’ as long as they’re balanced as intended.
