Problem is SD needs to let good tj’s beta test… They just don’t wield intuitive enough testers.
TJ in Brink ?
back to topic…
I remember that Rahdo said in a interview that all special moves (climbing etc.) can be done without useing the SMART button…my question is: will this maybe rewarded with a bit more speed when you do moves without useing SMART system? If you really need to practice hard to do these moves without SMART it would be like trickjumping. but only if can do these moves faster as SMART it would make sense.
Anyone remembers the SMART system? You know, be a noob and spam the smart button everywhere you go, wasting time on bad routes and unnecessary vaults or whateva, OR be the proleetzor who knows the map like the back of his hand, manually controls the timing of slides and stuffs so he will take the minimum time reaching the objective, maybe also setting a trap or moving to cover so he has an advantage over his slow moving enemy
I don’t know, to me that sounds like trickjumping being an official gameplay element.

yea they’ve confirmed this, but no specifics. i hope it’s implemented in a way that makes it impossible to achieve max speed consistently, and that the max speed is considerably faster than basic speed. somehthing like a really steep bell curve. because without a system that makes movement interesting and impossible to perfect, the game has an expiration date for many pc players after which there are no more skills to learn that aren’t related to team dynamics.

I can’t get my head around a viable way that climbing up an object (like the metal detector, or railing of the airport) can be implimented without the SMART button.
If you need a button for sliding, one for climbing, one for brushing your teeth etc etc it’ll start getting very crowded on the keyboard, and impossible on a console.
Sorry for taking this further OT
My guess is that the console will only be able to use SMART while the PC will have the option.

afaik, you climb like other games, look up and go forward
Wouldn’t that be the same thing except you have to look up notably more than via the SMART system?
It is a good question how you can do the same things without the SMART button when it is often used to climb 5+ foot objects that you have to grab a hold of in the first place. Maybe they give players one jump and one wall jumps, but–then again–I doubt it.
I think both will have it but the consoles will gain more from using a SMART button than hassling with it manually.
On top of that, I guess timing just the SMART button alone is important.

Yeah. It’s really not either/or. Personally, I use SMART, jump, and crouch completely dependant on the situation I’m in. There’s a bunch of subtleties to it which I hope you’ll find and enjoy!
Could someone from SD enlighten us as to the situation of the console version?
My impression is that both versions will offer the option for manual or SMART button movement.
While it is possible that the console version may have a slightly simplified system for “manual” movement, I think there is plenty of room for developing it in such a way that it is challenging and requires talent, timing, and practice to master - and that the reward for doing so, is just as great as on the PC.
I am speculating, but for both the PC and the console version, the difference between SMART and manual may be just a matter of using a single different button, say “Y” and directing the character through each phase of the move, timing the hits appropriately and the mouse/stick looks accurately, rather than just hitting “X” to take you through a whole series of complex movements.
hah, that reminds me of that flashgame signofzeta posted on the previous forums. Controlling limbs can be hard to master indeed
