Tired of the Hate

(Smokeskin) #61
Tbh I don’t get why so many people blatantly dislike this game. I mean I can understand there are people out their with genuinine concerns (some of which are listed in my sig) but they strike me as the people who would happily play Brink if their requests got answered. E.g. Codine with his (her?) ATI card problems.

No, it’s all the people who go away and then write about Brink saying “it sucks” or “it’s horrible” or “this is a complete waste of money”. Perhaps I’m just naturally biased but I find this game a heap of fun at times and I don’t understand why the people who could play it would hate it to that degree. Can anyone explain honestly?

Regards,
Nexo

EDIT: Yes, I know Brink could have been a lot of things. The fact of the matter is that the core concept is pretty fun, it just needs a few extra things like weapon tweaks and new maps.
I think they really wanted to enjoy Brink. The setting and graphics and style is just so much cooler than CoD, BF and TF2, and they’re pissed that it doesn’t cater to their preferred type of gameplay. So they’re bitter.

(tokamak) #62

That’s basically it. I had a lot of confidence in Brink. Before the release I was constantly called a fanboy. I kept faith in the weeks thereafter, some errors are to be expected. But after that it became clear that any concern I had for the game solidified and worst of all, that many of them were concious design choices. That tends to turn someone bitter.

Then again, how good must one’s life be if one can be so concerned about a video game.

same … Just desapointed … MEHHHH

(SockDog) #64

I think I was less disappointed but just not engaged by it*. I even initially put it down to having played L4D/L4D2 campaign for several years until others expressed a similar detached feeling and player numbers fell through the floor.

 • I had no such issues with ETQW so I’m not buying the you don’t understand the game excuse.

(Humate) #65

Its piss easy, but thats all relative - so I wouldn’t get annoyed.
If you have never played an SD game before, you’re likely to put Brink on a pedestal and proclaim it has a steep learning curve. And maybe for the typical console player, it is a steep learning curve. Thats fine.

COD on the other hand however is just as simplistic as Brink. Theres actually not a lot to learn about the game, but it is less forgiving in that if you cant aim and if you have bad battlesense you’re probably not going to have much fun.

Conversely if you can aim and have great battlesense - Brink is not going to be much fun either

indeed. whichever point one falls on the continuum, it’s easy to convince oneself that it’s really that important…which it is in the smaller scheme of things (i def value my entertainment choices, dollars spent, time invested, etc)…but a bit of perspective is always a good thing…thanks tok

Meh. It was ok but got boring fast. Haven’t even played the new maps. Thought bout it but meh

Disagree entirely.

The game is extremely superficial
and it plays like a terrible reinvention.
Something not consistent with Splash Damage.

(BioSnark) #69

A lot of the hate was expectations based on SD’s record. I had very low expectations at launch based on the prerelease videos and was pleasantly surprised by the gameplay speed and amount of fun. Not a great game but decent enough that I can play for a while now and then before getting annoyed. It’s too late to be the next big thing in terms of PC playerbase but there’s a lot of potential to improve how rewarding the gameplay is on PC if SD can not only continue support but also try and make the gunplay more rewarding and less frustrating.

I enjoy Brink a lot more than I enjoyed Quake Wars - but not as much as I enjoyed W:ET and RTCW.

(illmeister80) #72

absolutely agree with this.

(SockDog) #73

Wasn’t really comparing the two just countering Wolf’s post by pointing out that ETQW had a lot steeper learning curve, took longer to get into, had hardly any persistent rewards and yet it still hooked me from the first game unlike Brink.

EDIT: I’d love to play RTCW. It was one of the reasons I was all for more than a single mode in Brink. Putting in (and taking out) stuff to just give RTCW and W:ET on the Brink engine. WOW. Now all we’d be bickering about would be which is the best mode to play in Brink and not whether you want to load Brink tonight or not.

This may be the case of some people, but I think that most people are disappointed that the game is nothing like the gameplay SD showed at e3.

That’s funny because I agree completely with what wolfnemesis75 said.

EDIT:

I disagree with this. It took very little time for me to get used to ET:QW (just like W:ET), after all these years I’ve put 600+ hours into ET:QW but I’ve played Brink 260+ hours in 3 months since its release and I’m still learning new strategies.

well here i am.

Still, it’s nice to read this forum from time to time.

The Brink game itself is in trash, didn’t even bothered to download and try the DLC.

Just because you’re hiding behind a keyboard, doesn’t mean you still can’t show some respect. If you don’t enjoy the game or think it’s bad, fine, but don’t be disrespectful to the people that put in long hard hours to create it by calling it trash.

Since when did spray and pray become tactical? I guess you can go with the view that you can use enemy positioning and their current actions to determine who is what, and what the best target is to go for 1st, but the time it takes to process such little information combined with the spread makes thinking a negative action… so spray and pray it is then.

(.Chris.) #79

Yeah I was going to bring this up to the class identification thread but figured I would be branded a hater for pointing out my opinion.

(DarkangelUK) #80

hah, that was where I meant to post it… oops! Think I’ll pop that reply over there as well.
