Throwing like a Sissy

(Xerxes) #1

I`d like to report an annoying problem in ET.

It has to do with the distribution of Ammo and Med Packs that depending on the angle of the passing of the packs land on your toes thus you eating the pack when you don`t need one (ex: missing 4 bullets or missing 10 hp).

Now, I dont care to activate/desactive the ability to eat them up in the middle of the action, I dont care to hop up and contort to throw them out, I just want to press the button and have the pack land 2 feet from me so that either me or a teammate can take it. Nor look up in the sky to throw them 3 inches further.

Can you please make it so that we can throw it a foot out further? Nothing blows more as a LvL 0 Field Ops to eat his first 2 Ammo packs without EVEN wanting them.

I discussed the situation in another Forum and alot of people agree. Here is a link :

Thank you for your time and answers would be appreciated.

i agree

throw the packs ahead instead of just dropping them to your feet…

now if you are in any sort of motion forward you pick up yoru own pack that you lay down for someone else

It might be too useful, because you’d be able to heal teammates in the heat of battle. As long as it affects ONLY Field Ops I don’t see any danger. But take Radar for instance, one Axis soldier can stand in the bunker entrance, and medic heals him without blocking his path of retreat, and without risk of receiving primed handgrenades.

It also forces you to eat your packs when the person you’re trying to heal or rearm is standing right next to you. If someone is directly in front of you, you obviously want to give the packs to them, not yourself. It would be nice if there was a half second delay or so before you can pick up your own pack. Maybe a cvar to set the delay, so that people who like the current behavior can set it to 0.

There is a delay between when the pack is spawned and when you can pick it up, but it is very short. The pack seems to spawn from your origin and move forward before it drops. This is why if someone is directly in front of you it makes you eat what you drop, but if you take a step back then your teammate will pick it up instead.

I find it best to drop stuff near my teammate instead of trying to shove it into him. Espeically MG guys who are prone. When you stand next to them to feed them packs they can no longer move their guns horizontially, which could prove fatal if someone tries to rush your position.

I found a server running apparently modified game code. Don’t know how they made this, but the server name had “shrub” in it, who’s a famous modder. Maybe there was just one variable to tweak, IDK.

Anyway, ammo and healthpacks would fly about 12 meters on there. You could zap teammates with healing from cross the room or over rooftops. (A cowardly medic wanting to eat his own healthpacks would have to look at his feet, since just running forward won’t catch the pack before it flies away)

Lol, im just thinking of real life, if medics and fld ops chucked first aid packs and ammo at people as hard as they could

But seriously, something NEEDS to be done. I’ve been running backwards, throwing ammo, and still picked it up. Its especially annoying if your a low lvl med or fld ops. Some poor guy with 2 hp is standing there, and your eating up all the health right in front of him  Cruel, so cruel…

BUMP

This issue needs to be addressed by SD.

FWIW, if you throw the pack while looking up a bit, you don’t accidently pick it up nearly as often.

Except I want to be looking around for enemies, not cloud watching :banghead:

A 45 or 30 degree up angle is more than enough to put the packs away from your feet and unless you are on a hill you should still see enemies…

If you’re worried about attackers coming while you’re dishing out goods, just keep some distance between you two and everything will work fine. You don’t want to stand next to each other since you’ll eat your own packs and you’re an easy panzer or grenade kill.
