Thoughts from a fellow veteran player leaving the game....

SaganonRoids giving his thoughts on the game since closed beta. Great post.

Sign, another one left. I am uncertain if I will leave too, so does Steven. He used to believe in the game, but since 2 weeks ago or even earlier, he told me "fk, no rank scene… " I think you get the idea.

How many people on my friend list will one day when I click profile, I will see no dirty bomb on their first page of games. or Nov 23, 2016 when it is Jan 12, 2017

When is the next Veteran quits the game sempai?

I’ll hang on a little bit longer… hacks and performance issues aside.

I’ve shed blood for this game (trying to fix my hardware that isn’t broken).

What’s happening is that new ones are getting on board and seeing the wrong things because of how things are being done without knowing why the game mechanics allow such things. SD/Nexon realized that by putting on a new game mode called Execution which I fully appreciate because some players are coming from a different background like CS:GO, but there are other things that need to be catered to in other game modes. I lament the loss of good veteran players… SD should have at the back of their minds [color = cyan]player retention while keeping their focus on maintenance and game content.

I’ll quit when DB ceases to exist

As a former ET player i totally agree with the points written by him, especially one point. Dev should trust their comunity players more as its like we almost have no power of decision.

(TheStrangerous) #7

Good luck trying to find other game that isn’t MOBA inspired or CoD clone.

DB is one of it’s kind at the moment. ET is filled with server mod junkyard I can’t stand downloading. Maybe Lawbreakers, maybe Quake Champions will have versatile classes, but for now it’s DB.

I will just use this thread to say that I deinstalled Dirty Bomb today after almost 890 hours in-game. I am usually not someone for good bye messages, but this game was a huge part of my life for the last year.

When I started DB this game was everything I was looking for. I wanted a fast paced game, in which team play is key, in which I could improve, be it in aim, movement or tactics. Sadly, SD took the game in a direction which does not fit with my idea of the game (but hey, it’s their game). Instead of pushing proper team games and ranked they pushed the hunt for credits and load outs. Which lead to a mentality of players in which bling bling counts more than skill. Just for example: I won a 1 vs 4 in execution, winning the round for my team. After that a team mate told me “wow, nice cobalt”.

I have tried to improve in pub games as good as I can and kept trying ranked games in solo or duo queue, as after they took ranked out of the game my clan lost a lot of their members and those remaining had no interest in waiting ages to play a 5vs5 after its reintroduction. Solo or duo queues were due to the small player base mostly stomps, me being one on both sides.

So I kept on playing on public servers 6on6 or 7on7. It’s still something I don’t understand, why there are no public 5on5 servers, when everything about the game is balanced for this setup. But I cant stand this random chaos which is 7on7 and 8vs8 anymore. So I made the summer squash and mofo update the deciding factors for if I keep on playing.

Well, summer squash 3 introduced a bug for me, which causes me to switch immediately back to primary weapon when I switch to secondary, which can lead to pretty shitty situations mid fight. The Mofo update gave me incredible fps drops and completely ruined the responsiveness of my mouse. Those 3 additions to the bugs the merc I mainly play with is riddled anyway makes the game unplayable for me. There is almost no match in which I don’t die once because of a bug.

I really hope SD gets DB in a proper shape, but my patience with the bugs, the missing features (demo recording, spectator mode), the slow development speed, the useless events, the lack of a proper competitive scene, community servers, and player made maps has come to an end.

I totally understand him, but, from the other hand, Dirty Bomb is something I’ve waited for years since I stopped playing ET because of dead ET Pro servers. I won’t give up on it easily  I may be naive, but I still believe.

It’s a great well written post and all that but he’s essentially echoing what every second thread in general chat is about - can we have mod/sdk/community contribution support and can we have a fucking meaningful content update already. This is not a revelation, this is something everyone but the truly entrenched players are saying

You’re writing it as if you, me or someone else has to play a game that is like DB if it’s not DB. I don’t need something similar when I stopped playing DB actively. I just don’t play it.

Nobody knows what his other preferences in multiplayer games are, not even me. Maybe he likes other genres, maybe not, who knows?

I was only referring to fast paced, online shooter type of games, and it’s current selection.

That post is emotionalllll, All the competitive guys are talkin about it. Is there time to turn DB around? I think so. I really hope that the MOFO update made it easier for people with lower spec computers to play. The sounds are great, the lighting changes are great. Sad that they took a lot of the high skill jumps out of the maps. To me, the jumps give the game a lot more depth. I guess a lot of the jumps they took out were to the spawns.

I’m not quitting.

Sagan is just another one of many. I started to play DB in november 2013, right, three years now. At that time, many founders already raised the sdk and community servers issue. For obvious reasons, due to the development being quite far from what it is since the steam release (I consider proper content progression is on a proper stall, dome only needed some textures prior to the steam release), they told people to wait for a decision about that. Everyone followed without too much worries back then.

I was occupied with chivalry at that time, and db sessions were restricted for alpha players (who did not put funds into the game). I started to play again during July/August 2014. There were proper tourneys already happening. Most of the community was made of proper SD fans, which were here for their previous titles. At the end of 2014, the SD/Nexon position turned to the negative about SDK and community servers. And those people, who mostly made what W:ET or ET:QW by themselves, started to raise worries, as both games turned to be great due to their involvement. So the leak started there. They had to retain those players. What they answered them was just a long time of silence.

And those people were not asking much. Any sort of matchmaking system was regarded as a useless feature in their eyes, if only they had the opportunity to have their own tunable servers and tools to create maps. Same for the economy.

From every aspects, I feel like they’ve wasted way too much energy on targeting the wrong ones. One example : Chivalry medieval warfare. They had their fanbase. Same engine. Smaller dev team at the start. Same low price target (chivalry was 20€ pretty much right at the start). They did federate a community around them. They provided even less content, but community servers. At the release, good reviews, good fun, people were into it. What made the difference is that people sticking to it had places to gather, organise scrims, tourneys, without interfering with casual players, who could join an official server and they rarely met unbalance. So everyone was happy, found balanced and interesting games. Further people came in, partially due to the core community providing good fun to anyone willing to go deeper into the game. Dev added customization, and later on SDK. They made a proper success out of it.

But here in dirty bomb, with the root community already leaving prior to the steam release, without healthy basis, it always feels wobbly. The comp scene is a proper joke to what it was even during the nexon alpha. MM and economy tweaks are imo a vain and wasteful work for such a small team. Thus no one gets satisfied at the end.

I like dirty bomb, but sadly, in the current situation, if I find a game in the arena/fast/not EA or activision related that suits me, I’ll dive into it. And this have been the same for a good year now. They’re lucky enough. Maybe they should act someday.

Besides SD patches the game so damn late, and it’s been over several months,

Most disappointing times were Third Summer Squash, not those waiting times I suffered over 2 years.

I always wanted CoD Juggernaut type solider, heavily armored with huge machinegun, and I can clearly say no other FPS character can reach how Thunder sniped through my personal preference.

I’ve been playing this game since beginning of 2015, still having hard time waiting proper Fine-Tuning balance patch, new contents like Turtle + Dockyard for 1 year since this year Jan’s map test, and other stuffs like MG reloading quotes.

Yes. It really is painful.

Watch people leaving while standing still alone, waiting for such sluggish patch while I have to serve an army at 2017 is definitely not a joyful thing.

I was also pointing for proper Ranked scene for me to challenge DBN with my own KR team just like in OW(Afreeca Freecs Blue team’s DayFly is former DB pro Vassili player.) but we just have not enough players to run with, and my time is running out fast proportionally to slow development speed.

But hey, eventhough I won’t be able to play next year, as long as DB keeps up nice update like MOFO with FASTER speed, I still believe in SD.

Completing of Merc/Weapon balance isn’t that far away, and also all you guys need is more maps, just a bit more mercs with new fresh weapons/unique skills, and advertisement = more people.

its a good post and many points strike true.

In the end it can all be summarized though: no online team-FPS title can survive 3-4 years with 6, SMALL, maps.

Maps are the playgrounds on which all metas revolve. If you don’t introduce new maps, the meta stagnates. It is quite striking and a testament to a great composition of mercs in the game, that the meta was able to shift as much as it did in the last few years of comp; with slight balance tweaks pushing this or that merc from useless to godly (anyone remember Arty or Redeye in 2015?)

This is true if there is no community around then game, if we will only trust SD to build all matches for us and community it will fail. Never played hardcore put are there pickup matches planned through irc? This game is like ET great fun to play pub, you ofc play pub different from scrim, and endless fun to play scrims where strategy comes to play.

Is there a big problem to set up DBpickup bot on irc so people can sign up there and join a server? I would be willing to set that up.
