Thoughts about a free version of W:ET

No, what people don’t like is old used ideas in a new concept. That’s what happened with Wolfenstein, it was turned to what you think should be done a.k.a CoD copy and nobody liked it.

People want to see a change but not that kind of change. And what i suggested was to make Soldier class into something like an Engineer. For example, Vehicle destruction* skill for soldiers.

The more advanced the player gets in it the better logistics and weapon skills he gains. Obviously the player can use panzerfaust/bazooka to selfkill in desperate need but hey, that’s what makes the game fun

like i stated before, certain mods dont want to see that feature in mod, for example, noquarter. ofcourse there is a solution - write it in the nq source and then compile… but everytime there is a update, u would have to compile it again (or even more, if they changed a lot), and they are planning to make it closed-source anyway.

I do hope you did not confuse my post with the idea that I wanted drivable vehicles. I am against that as well, by vehicles i meant Tank & Truck, Tug, same way as they are right now. Escortable :slight_smile:

deployable anti tank guns :slight_smile:
but not so much vehicles as in et:qw :wink:
and no flying things!

maybe activate vehicles with a script command - so serveradmins can choose if they want to run it or not - depends on the map

and bigger maps :wink:

Idk what you mean with the first suggestion, but the rest should be doable in mods/maps, or a combination of the two. In fact, much more can be done there than what most people realize. :smiley:

Vehicles? Old news, FalckonET/Wolfenstein: The Frontline and Eastern Front did it, and with the script commands you mentioned.

Deployable anti-tank guns? Seen it in some other mod, can’t remember which one.

Can’t remember about larger maps, but I think the afore-mentioned mods were trying to do such a thing.

aaarw, I kinda like drivable vehicles :o
(if they’re used for objective purposes and not just drive around and shoot)

It would be cool if someone could actually drive the tank, as e.g. in Goldrush and use it strategically (instead of now: placing loads of mines in front of the tank, waiting for the tank to move another spline and die)
=> my suggestion: someone should actually go in there when the tank has been repaired and can be driven by the driver, so in case there are loads of mines in front of the tank, the engineer can disarm them, instead of accidentally escort it in his attempt to defuse mines)

I already apologize for not making sense, as it’s quite late :o

naa, only way driveable tanks would work in any way is if the maps are made bigger. So you’d need new maps that have a totally different style.

He means like you can drive the vehicle which is the goal, and you have to drive it to the other side of the map but most likely it will be slow ;D

I have to say that I support Indy on this one, it has to be a easier way to implement a mod to existing game cod or anyone else. I do not think that it would change the “feel” too much and it would have to be preferably an WW2 game, so the textures and sounds in that game could be used. I believe that it would be easier than trying to modify ET. Personally I would love to see this as an mod on cod/waw.
It would be pretty cool to see this as an mod on Wolfenstein just to show the sorry a** Activision how the multiplayer should have been, but then again they would make more money on Wolfenstein.
It would be nice to add this as a mod to etqw just to support SD, then again that is not a WW2 game, but ……

However I do not think that this will be done, like someone else said here in this thread, the big problem is that there has to be a bunch of developers to actually do the work and to maintain it.

But this is just my opinion.

I think it has been said already, but I think a proper anticheat system has higher priority than gameplay changes when creating this free version of W:ET.

I wont say how ET engine should be improved cause Im not skilled so I wont do it.

I just hope gameplay wont be changed hardly. ET is a 7 years old game running an old graphic engine but it keeps cause of its gameplay and cause of so many of you people are building maps, mods, features… But if I like CoD gameplay and engine, or UT gameplay and engine, or BF gameplay and engine, then I play those games, not ET.

As I said, its just a hope. Teams skilled to improve ET will act however they think is the best. I cant advice them at all.

I think it’s also not just a convenience choice, sure it’s easier to modify cod4, but I think that the people still playing ET now are so much in love with it that they can’t switch hehe :smiley:

And at the planes that’s a really cool idea and in the WW2 setting I think it could be possible, but modern planes definetly NOT haha. can you imagine it … taget coming up in 3, 2, 1, zoooooooooooom oops missed it, oh crap end of the map - boom! :smiley: :smiley:
