Those Darn ETPro Clanbase settings

(Bokkem) #1

This might sound familiar:

Everytime we play an ET ClanBase match, we experience problems with the ETPro Clanbase settings. Users always get kicked by PunkBuster because of the following PB cvars:

cvar r_ati_truform_tess 1
cvar r_ati_fsaa_samples 1

Apparently these are default client settings, so every newb user gets kicked the 1st time he enters a CB match until he enters:

/seta r_ati_truform_tess 0
/seta r_ati_fsaa_samples 0

in his console or in a .cfg file. Since we are a newb clan and likewise play against clans of the same level, we lose like half an hour every time we play a match because of these settings :banghead:

My questions to the experienced ET community:

  • Is there a way to force these settings from our server to the clients so that they don’t get kicked?
  • What are these setting for anyway, and why would I need them even if I don’t have an ATI card installed?

  1. Although ETPro can force the client connecting to the server to set these cvars (with the b_forcecvar command), it doesn’t stop the client then changing them again once they’re on the server, so they still need to be included in the Punkbuster cvar checks.

  2. How does Punkbuster know you don’t have an ATI card?

Yes, i had that problem too. If you have that problem, and you are kicked by PB, type in your console:

/com_crashed 0

after that you can alter the ati_ stuff. Normally they are on the wrong setting, dont know why. the reason why you dont see this problem often is that the admin often forgets to load /ref clanbase before the match starts.

just change it in ur console and it wont happen again, i dont know wt it does or means, its annoying though :disgust:

Thx will use this setting from now on… Our servers need re-configuring anyway… :banghead:

well if you get the problem you gotta do this in your console in this order:

1: /com_crashed 0
2: /r_ati_fsaa_samples 0
3: /r_ati_truform_tess 0

2 and 3 can be switched, the order of those two doesn’t make any different. but first you need “/com_crashed 0”

These rules exist for months now, and still their are clans having probs with this (we had to wait almost an hour this week for some noobs to get it fixed, although it was their 10th match since these settings are required :banghead: ).

FIX IT ONCE AND FOR ALL PLZ !!! takes about 1 minute

These two settings are in the clanbase rules because they can result in a wallhack exploitation in conjunction with MSN.

I have an ATI card and whenever MSN pops up (often quite rudely when it shouldn’t…but hey that’s Microsoft) I can see through walls, if all be it briefly. MSN then stops bothering you which then causes my PC to ‘freeze’ for about 2-3 seconds.

Tbh it could never be used effectively in clan matches (at least at the higher end) but I can easily see why PB are keen to have their settings ‘bullet proof’, If only to stop moaning about the possibility of such an exploit/hack being used.

I read that before, but didnt know that it was connected to these cvars. Good info!

i know im not going to turn off my ati truefrom technology just because some league thinks we should…

Well, then you cant play matches with the proper settings, because you will be kicked by pb automatically. Thanx 4 telling us though :???:

Well, we have played a lot of matches on ClanBase and almost every time people get kicked for the ATI thingy, and we almost always use about 30 min before the other team have fixed the problem… really annoying.

So now i have added the lines below to our server.cfg :
forcecvar r_ati_truform_tess 0
forcecvar r_ati_fsaa_samples 0

(It’s forcecvar not b_forcecvar)

I know that players are able to change it back, but then you know that they are trying to “cheat (according to the rules)” when they are kicked…

Thanks for the info about forcecvar, i did not know about it, and i really hope it will help us in the future.
