This game's a 9/10

I just enjoyed 2 hours of all-human, 8 vs. 8, lag-free Brink, and it was amazing. I’d put the experience on par with BFBC2. Even better, I played with (obviously experienced) strangers who made intelligent decisions and played their roles perfectly, and it was a GREAT time.

These games were full of memorable moments, but most of it was from me racking up Most Kills in 7/10 games. Yes, I realize getting Most kills is not the point of Brink, but I chose to play the slayer (Heavy Soldier w/Gerund & Carb-9) and oppress my enemies. I found my health constantly buffed as a medic backed me up TF2-style, which allowed me to go on a ridiculous murdering spree. We kept our opponents from scoring the first objectives every time they were on offense, and we steamrolled through them when we attacked–we rescued the guy on Aquarium with about 14 minutes to spare, for example.

I understand everyone’s (warranted) complaints about the technical issues. But when those issues are removed, we’ll be left with an incredibly fun game that rivals the other team-based shooters out there. My fingers are crossed in hopes the community sticks around for the patches and DLC, as I can see this being a game I always return to and play for a few hours a week, even when I’ve moved on to newer games.

Yes i agree. For Brink to shine though it needs to be polished. It is not at all right now.

I played a few hours today and had fun, particularly on Container City. We struggled to get the bot to the crane and had 10 seconds left. I repaired the crane with 1 second remaining, and the match when into extended time, we got the bot to the crane. We ended up winning the match. What I love about this game, is sometimes you are actually on the brink of defeat, then working as team, you can turn it around and win.

I also recently got to play in a full 8v8 game with no lag. It was in Container City and both sides were evenly matched, skill wise. It was tons of fun trying to out flank and out smart the other team.

The team work required to make the push as the attackers was enjoyable. I had put together a fireteam with people on my team that were doing well. Just so happens that they had mics. Being able to verbally communicate while running the objectives adds so much to the overall experience.

Loved this game since release date. Loving it even more now

Right there with you, with all the new Brink friends i have added been having days/nights like that often, game is def on a whole nother level when you get mostly full games and decnt players together preferably with mics.
Also i came from BFBC2 too, this has def been a more then worthwhile replacement.

@Realirony, havnt been seeing you on when i am on, had a great group together last night with all mics. Maybe tonight or tomorrow?

I love your enthousiasm, hope you enjoy Brink for a long time to come.
But steamrolling isn’t really fun or challenging is it? Not something to feel good about on it’s own I mean don’t you think?
But besides that it’s sounds like you had a good time and that’s what gaming is for,
May the tapir be with you!

This game is lightyears away from a 9/10.

Just sayin.

Without all those problems,EASILY a 8 or 9/10 but now?Not really.

Steamrolling isn’t challenging, but I don’t always need to be challenged. Sometimes killing the same team over and over, knowing they’re cursing my name as I mow them down and Flashbang them until their eyes have spots, is a blast.

I was having fun with the “tilt” move last night. I’d stay just in cover, hold the left trigger, and use the D-Pad to pop in and out of cover with the Gerund. Watching enemies try and anticipate my movement and line up a headshot with the Barrett, only to be outgunned by me AGAIN, was hilarious.

But I agree that challenge helps as well. The nail-biters that are won on the final minute, or even during overtime, are great as well. I just didn’t have any games like that last night.

9/10?

WOW ur intitled to your opinion but 9/10 for this buggy belongs in 1998 outdated game?

At best its a 5/10 just around AVERAGE.

Glad you could. Best I’ve managed on ps3 is 5/3. Most of the time I can only find 3/3, tops.

Right now, this game is the most frustrating thing I’ve ever dealt with. A potentially awesome experience that either no-one’s playing or the match-making system is simply borked.

Please fix your game, SD, I really do want to enjoy it!

I think lobbies and a quick play for campaign (to put you directly into a game with other humans) would do wonders with getting more human players together with each other. If you dont know exactly how to go about teaming up with people it can be very frustating for a new commer.

(Glyph) #13

Brink is fantastic when playing with and against other players. Sadly there is not a bot-free playlist, at least on the consoles. Huge oversight if you ask me.

(ataliba) #14

they could just add a matchmaking system…

(fearlessfox) #15

Lobbies would be a godsend.

A matchmaking system that doesn’t throw you into empty servers one minute then a server with people who have clearly been playing since before your initial search on the /exact same search criteria/ would be nice.

(LordBlade) #16

I agree. When you find a decent group of players who don’t decide to all be Rambo… you can have some amazing matches.

I was playing on a server a while back that had the same 8 vs 8 teams going through… I don’t know how many battles. We must have stuck through at least 5 hours of it.

And it was amazing!!!
We weren’t pros. But we all generally knew what we were doing, and what we were SUPPOSED to do.
Medics would support. Engineers picked useful spots for mines and turrets. Soldiers kept the enemy pinned and made sure ammo was given all around. Agents would often be sneaking behind enemy lines to grab points or shoot people in the back.

We were going through matches where everyone was in the 5000-8000 points range at the end. Everyone was contributing. Even if we weren’t on the front lines, or the ones getting the kills.

Of course, with the good, comes the bad. You’ll get a team of people who seem to think that this game is like Battlefield or somesuch. Where you can run around constantly and insta-kill the enemy with a quick shot. And of course, when they get slaughtered time and again, they whine and complain and call the game crap.
And you’ll have those people who never support the team. They play a Medic just so that they can heal themselves. And run around just trying to get the most kills.

And those matches are tiresome.

I see countless people complaining about how horrible the game is. They’re wrong. The game is kickass.
The problem is, they’re not bothering to learn how the game is intended to be played. They want their one shot kill Rambo games. They don’t bother with teamwork. They don’t try to use tactics or strategy. They expect to be able to run and gun and be number one on the scoreboard… and when they realize they can’t be, they blame the game instead of their own stupidity.

Back up.

While I agree with you that Brink is a really good game when you can get the 8v8 people involved, there are plenty of legitimate reasons not to like it that /don’t/ involve the person being a run-and-gun fanboy.

I’ve read reviews from countless people who list OBJ based play as their preference and think Brink sucks for fully legit reasons.

Different opinion =/= didn’t get it.

I love peanut butter, but I don’t call people who don’t idiots.

(ataliba) #18

clearly the game need several tweaks in order to be more enjoyable… although it’s fun when it runs smoothly

Isn’t that the point of playing a Heavy soldier - is to “steamroll”? If everyone on your team plays thier roll properly (like his medic buffing him constantly) you will mow over most teams. Maybe it wasn’t challenging per say, but isn’t that the reward for playing smart? A nice easy win once in awhile?

(LordBlade) #20

I keep seeing complaints from people who want to do nothing put run around padding their K/D ration. They don’t give a damn about objectives. Or helping the team.

Now, I’m sure there’s people out there who like objective based shooters, and have found this game to not be their particular cup of tea. But all the obnoxious whiners I keep seeing spamming up various message boards are always people who don’t seem to get that you CANNOT just run and gun through this game and expect to magically win.
