This game's a 9/10
Back up.

While I agree with you that Brink is a really good game when you can get the 8v8 people involved, there are plenty of legitimate reasons not to like it that /don’t/ involve the person being a run-and-gun fanboy.

I’ve read reviews from countless people who list OBJ based play as their preference and think Brink sucks for fully legit reasons.

Different opinion =/= didn’t get it.

I love peanut butter, but I don’t call people who don’t idiots.
But i think he is speaking of the majority and not everyone. Many of those who arent having fun in the game or are crapping all over it just dont understand the game or how its meant to be played. I find more people complaining about personal preferances more then about serious legit issues.

Have you tried the “Old School” playlist? We played a 3 vs 3 match and the game never inserted bots. (PS3 version)

(ataliba) #23

but you gotta admit that there are some serious gameplay issues… such as ubalanced weapons, maps, and bodytypes. and some graphical issues that should be optional…

(Oschino1907) #24

I will give you 1gun, and 1spot on one map and i dont see the prob with bodytypes. so again how is that a serious gameplay issue?

(Glyph) #25

I have not but will have to give it a try. Personally I avoided it since the CPs offered no bonus and I enjoy that aspect of Brink.

EDIT: Just noticed ‘Old Skool’ and it does have CPs enabled. I must have had it confused with Competitive.

(LordBlade) #26

Which gun? And which spot?

With body types, I’ve not had any problems. I’ve tried all three. As a heavy, I get that feel of being an unstoppable beast. Love being a heavy medic.
Light types are stupid fast, and can get into the damndest of places. Makes for great ambushes.
I prefer Medium though. A nice mid point. I’m not unkillable like a heavy, but I don’t die from a papercut like the lights. :stuck_out_tongue:

As for the maps… I like them. Some more than others of course.
I’ve not really had too much trouble with any of them. Though honestly, I’m not a big fan of Container City.

Honestly, I don’t think it’s the majority of complaints. I think it’s a small fraction.

The majority of complaints I read are about the poor technical aspects of the game rather than complaints about no kill-streaks.

Well from a techincal standpoint it seems to be nothing gamebreaking and just texture pop ins and touble with one specific system on PC, or lag which IMO has been less and less of a factor in recent days for me atleast. I mean come on the universal complaints have already been put out and SD has acknowledged and is workng on it. So after that yeah, pretty much a majority of it is exactly what i have been talking about.

(ataliba) #29

so… the game is too good for the players.?

(LordBlade) #30

Too good for those who think that all games should be done in a single style.

It’s like someone who plays a lot of real time strategy games like StarCraft… then goes out and tries a turn based strategy game like Civilization.
While they’re both strategy games, they’re VERY different types of game.

Complaining that Civ is crap because you want it to be like StarCraft is… well, stupid.
And that’s what I’m seeing a ton of.

People have their favorite run-n-gun shooters that they’re used to playing. Brink comes out, and it’s something quite different. But they don’t want to learn how to play Brink properly, they want Brink to change to be one of their basic shooters.

They can’t get things their way, so they whine and complain constantly.

What drives me crazy… is that if someone doesn’t like a game… WHY would they go to forums specifically for that game just to bitch and complain constantly? If you don’t like something, don’t play it. Leave those who love the game alone, because they could care less if you’re too narrow minded to learn how to play a new game.

(ataliba) #31

nah… is not that “we don’t understand the game” is that the game doesn’t play as it should… THERE ARE FLAWS IN THE GAME and you must admit it… even if it don’t bother you, i’s quite annoying for many people, who wanted to experience brink entirely…

(Up&Down) #32

And you know how it should be played right?

Cause the Brink Franchise has been established for years right…

(A.i) #33

you can never make a product that everyone will like because everyone has different tastes, same with brink, Im just glad it is to my tastes
And you know how it should be played right?

So the game is perfect right? there’s no balance issues right? there’s no lag issues right?

I think he meant things like:

Flaws with Brink’s play:
Lag
Lack of an optimised engine causing sluggish movement
Use all key too sensitive/not sensitive enough
Poor VOIP support
Graphical quality low int places making it difficult to make out aspects at a glance
Awful matchmaking on consoles

and so on…

Brink’s foundation is one of the coolest shooters ever, it just doesn’t let you experience it as you should be able to at times.

(GlobalWar) #36

I play on the PC and for me it’s just great, not perfect but great. Just crossed the 40 hours of gameplay which in my case is a LOT.

(Up&Down) #37

Who ever said it was perfect?

9/10 is not perfect… but its a deserverd score from the OP.

No lag here.

PC FTW

(FrankieGodskin) #38

Just to chime back in–I think Brink is meant to be played differently than other shooters.

If you and your team attack a chokepoint, get wiped out, respawn, and attack the same chokepoint again via the same route, and die again, and respawn, and attack the same chokepoint again via the same route, and die again, ad infinum, you’re playing Brink wrong. Of course, if 6 of your teammates are bots, they’re going to follow this pattern, which is why it’s so easy to spawncamp. But if your teammates are mostly/all humans, you’re going to need different tactics than other console FPSs require.

(wolfnemesis75) #39

One of the things that I noticed some people don’t fully realize is, many times it is better to wait to be revived rather than respawn. If you are downed and get revived in a spot near an objective, you just added +1 to your team’s strength. Respawning sends you far away where you are as good as downed in many ways if you think about it. It takes 15 seconds to respawn sometimes, and 15 seconds to get back into the fight and usually you are in a bad position to reenter the fight for the objective. My two cents why another reason some FPS fans might struggle with Brink. Respawning in other games like COD. You are getting as many kills as you can, then when you respawn, it really doesn’t matter because there is no set place you have to be or objective to claim. And there is a time limit in Brink that penalizes respawning like you’d do in COD.
