Yes, the rank promotion in ET is flawed: high scores do not a good player make. I will gladly take direction from someone whom I respect, but a player does not gain respect simply by virtue of having a high score.
Having said that, ET does cater for this. If you’re a general and you want others to take direction from you, the mechanism does exist: simply start your own private fireteam, invite others into it and kick them out if they don’t play the way you want them to.

for example, a field ops could be airstrikeing a key area, keeping enemys away. hes facing a smart team, so gets no kills, but, he wins the game for his team, with zilch xp.
does this make him worse than a medic who goes around on the front killing enemys and only healing himself?
A suggestion on ND80’s forums was that those with lower
rank can’t file complaints against their superiors.
Obviously not perfect but could make XP more valuable.

That actually is quite a good idea, but we’d still need a server admin watchin’ as it could veeeeeery easily be taken advantage of. I’m pissed off with pricks in this game TKing and acting like wankers our server was fucked up by two knob jockeys last night and for some reason none of us clan boys had /pb_power. DAMMIT. Also because I’m in a yankie clan and live in the UK (and don’t sleep much anyway) I was up at all hours only to have it spoilt for me and the other players.
