This Game is Great! ....but you pooped the bed.....

So I wish there was someone right at the top who would read this. It’s going to be mocked and then brushed under the carpet like every single other complaint… but with that said I don’t care because I demand satisfaction. If I didnt say something I would be even more aggrevated than I am right now. So Brink goes cheap and I buy myself a copy and more copies to give as gifts to my friends. I am excited as I play this fabulous game, glitches and whatnot aside: this game is fantastic.

But this is where I rage face: I start up on monday and there is no more DLC … ok thats sad because they didnt offer the package deal for a good price it was just vanilla brink. Now I can’t join any servers or even play the game because everyone has two maps that I don’t. There was no point in buying a game you can’t play. Take a look at who is playing online… it’s not that popular. It could have been but you constantly split the community(THE SUPER SMALL COMMUNITY) over rediculous crap like thinking your unsuccessful game deserves expensive DLC… to get those two maps that lock me out of every server online costs 10$ and I bought the game for 5$ … Do I really want to pay double for a DLC… Even if i bought it at full price I would never ever in a million years pay 10$ for two maps. You should have taken a lesson from other games, where the new maps are free and if people want more skins then they can buy character packs… that way people who want more customization can pay and everyone can keep playing together. Instead it’s a wedge in the community and it’s completely ruined my gaming experience.

Guess what… it’s, so broken my heavy engineer still has his sad punk chest piece but all the other DLC is taken away, and if I change the peice he will lose it forever. Please just give the maps out for free because you are being rediculous thinking a game this small with this tiny of a player community deserves DLC you have to pay for. Please don’t post “blame bethesda not splash damage” because this exact same post is going on their forums as well, to be laughed at and ignored.

Please change the sheets and stop pooping in the bed, I paid for fun not constant disappointment.

the whole idea of asking money for specific maps is stupid in the first place. I wish developers/publishers everywhere would STOP DOING THIS because it does nothing but segregate the player base. It only works in CoD/Battlefield because those games have a good enough pedigree to justify (as far as the average player feels anyway) nickel-and-diming your players. Not to mention, as much as I like to make fun of CoD map packs for being outrageously expensive, they still come with more than 2 maps each.

seriously… two maps?

(wolfnemesis75) #3

I got the maps for free. That’s like rubbing salt in the wound though, lmao. Also, try it on Xbox. I’ll play with ya. Teach ya a couple things. How to kill with style. Ha ha.

The guy is right and has every right to rage about it.

2 maps and a couple of custom parts for your character for that asking price is daft. You can buy the game brand new in some places for less than the DLC price (as this guy has done)… that proves how ridiculous it is.

I got it free but ONLY because I paid attention to the Splash Damage blog updates and realised that I had a week to download it. My sister also owns the game, I influenced her to buy it on release and despite enjoying the game initially soon moved on to other games due to the numerous issues and lack of players playing it - I had to tell her about the Agents of Change and to download it before the week was up. If I hadn’t, she’d be in the same situation as the OP of having to either overpay for it or miss out on a lot of multiplayer sessions due to not having the maps.

Surely if the whole idea of releasing DLC is to improve the game, improve the reputation and influence more gamers to play the game you aren’t going to overcharge for a little bit of extra? Why was it only free for a set period of time?

Nuts.

(ArchdemonXIII) #5

Because Bethesda. Also, there were no horses to armor.

(wolfnemesis75) #6

That’s sooo true. LMAO. Horse armor. Who came up with that?

(gold163) #7

as much as I hate horse armor it’s pretty non-essential to the game if you’ve played Oblivion. You don’t need horse armor DLC to play it. On the other hand, if the server switches to a map you don’t have, you’re **** out of luck.

TBH: there’s noone playing on PC anyway. New or old maps.
Every time they do a free weekend there’s a boom of players who all drop off after a few days and the background hum can’t even fill an online server on the PC. You can’t really split a community of 1.
This last sale was probably an attempt to squeeze as much money as possible from the PC version of the game before putting it to rest.

(jazevec) #9

How many free weekends were there ? I know about 2.

Brink has just disappeared from Steam’s top 100 played games, again. This time you can’t blame it on poor state of the game on launch, lack of clan support, or even high price ($5). You can’t blame it on obscurity, the game has been heavily promoted. Visuals, sounds are good. Yet somehow people don’t want to play it. Can you explain why ?

(DarkangelUK) #10

I have it 98 at the moment with 656 peak so far, 379 playing.

Correct, there were two free weekends. One just recently and one when Agents of Change was first released, if I recall correctly.

The reason why nobody wants to play Brink is because of a complete lack of content to justify the purchase, poor game quality/balancing, and the generally bad taste the game leaves in your mouth after playing it. It feels like a game with plenty of unexplored potential, and the reason why that potential is unexplored is because of stubborn pandering to a demographic that doesn’t play the game in the first place.

(Ruben0s) #12

the lack of content definitely killed the game for me. I was looking for a game that I could play for years, but with only 8 and with the DLC 10 maps that would never have happened. And from the 8 maps I didn’t even like 1 (I never tried AoC). Not to mention the soundbug / invisible players and all the other bugs that I used to have with the release. I did reinstall the game with AoC but after one map I dropped the ball again. I don’t know, but maybe my expectations were way to high. I was looking for something that kinda gave me the same feeling when RTCW got released, but brink could never lift up to that expectation.

It’s kinda sad because the community before the game got released was pretty good, with brinktv and brinkish. I remember the day when greasedscotman was showing the first match of brink. I couldn’t believe that there was not even a proper spectator mode. From that day my hope kinda vanished, this was two days before the release of brink in europe.

(tokamak) #13

W:ET has a decade worth of replayability in just it’s six maps. No excuse.

(gold163) #14

It’s not an excuse. The content that’s already there isn’t satisfactory in the first place. Every map essentially boils down to the exact same gameplay in Brink and it’s just not fun or engaging after a dozen times. You couldn’t say the same thing about ET.

(Ruben0s) #15

That’s true, but W:ET was brilliant for its time. I have spent more then 300 hours on maps like radar / goldrush. I can’t imagine putting so much time on a map with brink. That would be boring.

(tokamak) #16

That’s the point. If Brink’s core gameplay was better it could’ve gotten by with even fewer maps.

(Ruben0s) #17

if brink’s core gameplay would have been good with the maps they have right now, then I still wouldn’t have played it for a longtime.

The maps + the core gameplay should be good.

Anyway I still think brink lacks of content. I mean you have seen like the whole game after playing the 8 maps.
There is no difference between MP and Singleplayer.

(Humate) #18

It also helps that w:et doesn’t have a persistent unlock system.

(Ruben0s) #19

and that you didn’t had to pay 50 bucks

(wolfnemesis75) #20

or 60 bucks for that matter…
