Third Container City Video Shows Soldier, Explosions

Ah yes this sounds much better!

My understanding is that you select a task from the list, it tells you how much xp you get for completing the task, you complete the task and then receive the xp

My question is, will you still get the same xp for completing the task, even if you didn’t select it from the list before hand

(Rahdo) #43

ooo, good question. the answer is, we intend to give a little bit more XP if you’ve actually specified with the wheel that you’re going to do the act. we’re doing this to encourage people to use the wheel more, as it’s a fast and effective communication tool (when you select things on the wheel, the appropriate teamamtes affected hear dialog from you automatically indicating that’s what your’e going to do).

the reason this is so important (this wheel communication) is because by default, VoiP is off (though it’s a server setting to turn on). so the wheel fills in the void of people telling each other “i’m coming to revive you, hold on” or “I’ll go change into a soldier” or “I’ll watch your back!”

A perverse incentive could be that a medic stops before reviving you, selects the right mission and then continues.

How does the mission manager decide what your most important mission is and is that for everyone the same thing?

well I hope the wheel is quick to operate then live the vsays in ET.
v6 - I’m a medic heals

That’s a nice idea, combining the two systems.
Like, if someone says “We need an engineer here”, and they are near an objective, that player would activate the “support engineer” mission, and in the engineers mission wheel, that objective would highlight, and could even say “You have x teammates supporting this objective”.
That way the engineers would know what the team really wants to do.

Actually, it would be pretty cool if the mission wheel basic operations could be all activated through vsays.

He shouldn’t pause to select a mission. In many situations pausing to do something just gets you killed. I remember playing with newer players who scrolled through their complete inventory before they found the syringe to revive. Needless to say they often ended up lying next to you. Just aim at a downed teammate and quickly press the mission button to automatically set that teammate as your objective. It would be neat to have the voiceovers played only for that player then as well. ETQW had that “Hold on, I’m a medic” vsay, but it wasn’t really clear which player should hold on.

(radiator) #48

i think the extra xp would be better used at missions that need team coordination, like blowing an side-objective or disabling a turret.
i think it’s counter-productive for someone to think in extra xp when performing quick individual tasks, like reviving or repairing the turret, or whateva. when you do that kind of stuff, you just want to get on with it, and the mission system would just be a bother.

(Bezzy) #49

Easy to fix: XP bonus for communicating when you manage the revive. It’s like you’re placing your chips in roulette, betting on being able to do a mission, being rewarded for communicating the fact.

(Metal-Geo) #50

Is there any chance of you guys increasing the shutter speed for motion blur?

I’m all for motion blur being a future effect and all, but in the current videos the screen becomes quite ‘blurry’ even during slow/small movements.

Good choice. Players who actually look into the mission wheel thing should gain more xp than players who don’t really care and just click one button.

(Rahdo) #52

I’m a caveman, but my understanding is that the motion blur that you can see in the E3 video was done very quick and dirty for E3, so it’s far from final

(Metal-Geo) #54

Quick and dirty? I refuse to believe that. The quality of the motion blur is amazing. But the shutterspeed is annoying as it is now. Should be nothing but a change of a single variable.

Cheers though!

(RoryGreen) #55

Please say that the green glowing thing is not an alien! I will cry if it is :frowning: I will still buy the game anyway though

(tokamak) #56

Aliens are just plot-polyfiller these days.

(Bezzy) #57

Hah! Someone’s finish playing a game which I have also finished playing :D.

(Dormamu) #58

An alien or a living entity (mermaid maybe :D) , on the bot Centaur 3 ho you escort is a Lifepod, you don’t need lifepods to carry nuclear material

(timestart) #59

green glow = radioactive, everyone knows that.

(Nail) #60

green glow = old glowsticks from last rave
