There's weird **** all over my screen!

(Tanzverbot) #1

Ahoy,

i got a new computer and now etqw looks all weird in certain places (see attachment). What do i do now?

It’s an AMD Phenom II X4 965 with an ATI HD5770 and 4 GB RAM and running on Win 7, or at least i think so, i’m not good with this computer stuff.

Wallhack

No, it seems that u have a prob with ur gfx card driver, did u enable A.I. Catalyst? If so, disable it.

(Tanzverbot) #3

That’s probably a stupid question, but how and where would i do that?

€: nevermind, found it. Gonna try if that helps.

hi tanz…

this is a driver problem…

check directX version

uninstall ati driver and reinstall new driver with catalyst…

you use the qw program from the old computer?..have you a nvidia card before?..then delete this cvar

seta image_filter “GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR”

and check this one…seta r_useThreadedRenderer “2”

rex have the same problem, he fixed that and sets “3” on this cvar…now he has a new pc and a nvidia card ( before a ati) and now “2” the best setting…

did not work…? then call me in irc #fuzzel

greetz

oh oh, finaly busted tanz?

(Ruldolph) #6

more like self ownage

ive seen this before
when messing around no clipping offline against bots i thought how far down can you go? and after a while everything gets a orange outline :S its wierd as hell.
it was like everything was covered in stroyent :D:stroggbanana::stroggbanana:

(Dthy) #7

looks like at overdose on stroyent :open_mouth:

(light_sh4v0r) #8

Standard Ati driver behaviour in ETQW unfortunately. Disabling Catalyst A.I. as suggested usually fixes the most apparent issues, but there are some other game settings that can make an improvement none of which I remember. Ask Murka, I’m sure he knows.

BTW, I can see red arrows through certain walls, go ATI

(ED209) #9

Had same problem with my ATI card for a while… Black Sky, Random Black textures, wierd clipping effects… reloaded as per previous posts

(jmp) #10

It has nothing to do with DirectX. The game uses OpenGL for graphics rendering.

(fry) #11

I had a similar problem when i tried a friend’s config.
He used an ATi card and I have nVidia. So it should be a cfg problem.

(Tanzverbot) #12

OK, same system new problem. I’m getting very annoying drops to like 30 fps at random intervalls. Overheating is not an issue, i have checked that. The only thing that has changed is that i had to reinstall Win 7 a while ago and installed the 64 whatevers version instead of the 32 for some reason. Could that cause that problem?

(Dthy) #13

Shouldn’t be a problem, im on Win 7 64 bit and it was fine. When i had that problem ages ago it was just dust.

(edxot) #14

some info that may be usefull (or not):

  • ati does some weird stuff with calculations, rounding instead of processing math operations till last bit. rumor, not confirmed (i didnt say this). but results are well known. more frames but not so accurate.

  • a friend of mine had to install some software to be allowed to play some games in win7 with his ati card. i dont know the patch name or anything else about it. so dont ask because its useless, try googling for it.

(INF3RN0) #15

That was caused by drivers in my experience. I had to test a whole bunch till I found a series that wouldn’t have frame skipping. On some drivers my game would lag and skip forward, but at somewhat regular intervals. I’m thinking it’s the 64 bit drivers that are the problem and not the OS, so going back to 32-bit might be the only option if you can’t find stable 64-bit ones.

(Tanzverbot) #16

replaced the ati card with a n560gtx-ti to test if it’s the card. Now i’m getting 90 fps at most with frequent drops to 30-40. game is pretty much unplayable that way.

(Ashog) #17

but no artifactz

(Tanzverbot) #18

apparently fiddlling with either threaded renderer or timing method fixed the issue. What do i pay you people for!?

(Dthy) #19

You must pay us, in sexy dances on nirvana

lololol
