No. Players would be just playing at different servers.

Question is: why?

Answer is simple: it’s only because of 2.55 admins.
Only servers admins DEFINE which version will be used. Not players.

Admins can tell their players to move on 2.60b, but they do what they want.

I think there is only one problem and that is:

When new people discover this game they don’t know how to patch there 2.55 to 2.60 to 2.60b.

Yes, most of 2.55 server admins are afraid of situation when their players will migrate to another remaining 2.55 servers.

This threat could be eliminated by stopping 2.55 support at same time. But first of all - they have to make deal about stopping support of 2.55 at same time.
(Maybe arranged by third party? With website showing who already made a deal?)

Why do you think this is a problem?

I would’n consider this problem that hot. From my point of view I it’s as excuse in order not to take action.

Players of all other games discovers patches… then why WolfET players should not - are they more dumb than players of other games?
There are tons of text mentioning 2.60b version.
There could be server with server name `To play online, you need to upgrade WolfET to 2.60b’ running as 2.55 server just only for informing players.
Also there can be found other win-win solutions.

thought the topic was about the weakness in the info packets and that someone is abusing it. from what i gather it not hard to do it for anyone and that should be the topic.

but ill keep on with the bashing
sure the fake servers is a pain but we have one face/redirect/facade server to show up on the 2.6 list. sure i played with having many fakes but in the end it will only make players never connect to ur server if u fake amount of players and ping. and as long as i havnt figured out or had time to fix a true facade ill keep my redirect up. seem that tb made just that and thats good… paul helps community once again

and my personal thoughts on hellreturn is that he is active and puts in loads of time on having nice servers, I see his post helping people and admins on many forums, dont sound like someone “smashing on small” clans. sound more that some people take it personal and dont like other successful clans.

Well, I know politics in France are the same. Personally I don’ t care, as always I will say I have my favs and I stick to them

Especially ETPro, the single extra-files are script/shader fixes and campaign file to people have the overview when loading a map.

The easy way to manage your own favorite Servers:

1.Create a txt File and rename it to anyname.bat
2.Place it to in your gamedirectory
3.Open it in Wordpad ,insert the code text below and edit the gamepath,servernames and the ip´s

Rem = commented out Lines

It´s better you don´t have spaces in your gamepath

I think you’re missing the point. This problem won’t affect the people posting here, but people who are new to the game will be effected. Instead of having the variety of choice we had when we started playing the game they are tricked into joining a select few servers / communities.

This doesn’t give all communities a fair chance to survive and doesn’t give the player the same range of choice. Both are bad for the longevity of the game we love. So by running all the stuff you are effectively killing the game in my eyes, which I think is too bad since I like playing it and meeting new people.

The notion that server admins can’t abandon 2.55 because that’s what newbies play seems to be a self-fulfilling prophesy. Only ~1/4 (at most) of servers are 2.55, propped up by a minority of stubborn admins. (Granted, perhaps another 1/4 of servers are passworded ETPro, but that still leaves twice as many patched pubs.)

The percentage probably fell even lower than that before it was made possible for patched clients to connect to unpatched servers. Were it not for that ‘feature’ 2.55 might have dwindled to almost nothing by now. As it stands admins are encouraged to stick with 2.55 in an attempt to corral players from every possible source.

That is why unpatched persists: greed for playercount. The running of servers is a meta-game common to all games; the objective is to collect the most clients (which is why the shadier tactics discussed in this thread, including multiple-facade ‘funneling,’ are in fact a form of cheating by admins).
