Don’t think it’s possible to have a CoD style theatre mode due to engine restraints but the twitter recently about how much they love FRAPS could inspire some wild rumours. I think we all hope there are good solid demo/video tools with the game but like a lot of other things it’s probably a lower priority, especially when it would largely be a PC only function.

i’m very curious because i would be really looking forward to sort of demo my past matches.
i did this in vietcong where i was in an amateur clan and it at least the demos told me what have been the reasons if matches turned.
however i never have used FRAPS. the build-in demo recording thing did the trick.

Not going to happen unless such features were pretty much goals for the engine and developer from the start. The inflexibility of the consoles themselves doesn’t help either.

I know there’s priorities etc. but SD were well aware of the limitations of the engine with regards to decent demo control and recording way back in ETQW beta, possibly it was too much work, or the engine just wasn’t cut out for it… but it’s something that’s becoming a standard in games these days. It’ll be a shame if Brink doesn’t have it.

Is a great one too… I’ve seen consolers with just as good screen capture, multiple AV out into a lappy or something.

I’m also referring to PC as well, demos were buggy if you had uncapped frame rate, blurry movement, locked views. Then there’s the 30hz client limitation meaning you couldnt capture above 30fps with ingame options. Areas of the megatexture would flicker. Timescale for slowing the demo down only seemed to slow the fps and was jerky… it was far from from even decent. Users resorted to the likes of fraps etc because they had to.

Maybe with the heavily modded id tech 4 engine it will be a step up from the straight up id tech 4 with megatextures ETQW was using. Lot’s of time working with the same engine I’d assume they have it pretty tight now.

It’s possible the engine just plain sucks for it. ETQW was the 3rd game to use it, and even it’s poor demo features were miles ahead of Q4 and Doom 3. I got the feeling at the time that it just wasn’t that important to them, maybe things have changed… guess we’ll see.

I’m inclined to agree with engine limitation, but with so many 3rd party solutions, I don’t see an actual problem unless they’ve integrated Fraps for PC and consoles are left wanting

You can’t play the scene from the other players perspective with Fraps. That’s a huge part of why the theatre mode feature is so popular isn’t it? Plus, in demo’s you can do things like show skeleton through walls and better determine if someone is using a wallkhack or aimbot as he tracks guys through walls.

I don’t see why it’s an engine limitation, there’s a server demo right? Can’t they just make that so there’s an overlay with the current players HUD on it? Sounds like that is how they are doing the CoD one.
