Theater Mode?

(Icemonkeyjr) #1

Firstly No this has nothing to do with black ops.

Anyway, because brink is so moovement based and massivly stylish it would be brilliant to have a theater mode, just imagin pulling of a mid air no scope or somthing else amazing like that and not being able to capture it without reduced frame rate and screen cap software. It would also be a good way to view your character model.

Any thoughts?

Demo support should be in for PC although I don’t think anything official has been announced. We’ve had a few threads in the past about improvements to the demo tools to allow more in game viewing/editing but IIRC the response was that it isn’t on the top of the list of things to do (so I wouldn’t count on it).

Consoles I don’t know, again a lack of user friendly UI for demo tinkering would make it difficult even if the core engine supported it.

I agree though, easy video creation tools is a cool way to keep a game relevant once the main marketing has died down. More people ask for it the more likely it’ll be relevant in a patch or sequel.

Hmm hope so, i personally couldnt give a ****e about console support haha, but yeah hope at release or in future there will be a auto match record atleast, saved as a temporery file and then deleted if the player decides to not save the replay, as in most RTS games.

I asked Ed about this at Euro Gamer, he said it has been brought up in discussion but nothing has been decided at the time. I would like good support for all versions of the game, it can only help the game.

I heard that Theater mode for console, was something that didn’t make cut, along with female characters and split-screen support.

Well it has console. And /record has been in games since forever. Although It would be cool if they would make somekind of a mode where you can edit stuff in-game. You know, fly around the map etc. I have never been good enough to do that kind of thing is other games. I just replay things from my perspective and FRAPS them.

I still think this is something that shouldn’t be downplayed by a producer. Youtube is being flooded with free high quality advertising thanks to the ease of the theater mode in BO. Any good movie immediately hits crowdsource sites like Digg and Reddit.

Well worth the investment i’d say. The profit really shouldn’t be underestimated.

I agree completely

Also replays should feature a ‘photograph’ mode, where the game automatically renders the shot in the highest graphics possible to ensure that only top-notch screenshots are being uploaded.

Look what GT (automatically) can do:

Even the hardcore comp players with their crappy graphics will then refrain from uploading lego shots. It’s stuff like this that gives tons of viral marketing.

(Icemonkeyjr) #10

Thats ****ing increadible, brink needs a feature like this

(tokamak) #11

The Brink engine can already do it. But it’s not accessible to casual players.

(Cankor) #12

100% agree, I don’t know why there’s not more attention paid to this (it could have been done long ago). People will sometimes spend as much time playing with the video editing as they do playing the game. My kid plays EA skate and there’s all kinds of tools in there for making videos (setting cameras at different positions and so forth to record the replay action).

It seems like it’s going to be an expecation in games going forwards, which is a good thing. My guess if it’s not there when the game comes out it will be a negative check mark from reviewers.

And like Horse said, the last we heard about it from the Devs was something like “no time for it, we’d love to see someone mod it though.”

(tokamak) #13

I don’t think it will be negative for the reviewers, replay editing stuff isn’t a status quo yet. It just should be considered on the merits of forwarding the game’s image alone. It’s not just a thing to please the current audience, it’s a tool to increase the exposure of people who wouldn’t buy the game outright.

A reason why Minecraft is so popular is because everyone shares their amazing stories on Youtube. I don’t play the game but I find whatever they’re doing there incredibly entertaining and it has tempted me to buy the game on numerous occasions. Now for Minecraft you don’t need much editing tools, you can simply record whatever you’ve build from a first person expective, but fast and complex shooters will definitely need more to convey the situation properly.

(Icemonkeyjr) #14

Yeah considering minecrafts entire game file is 32 meg lolz

(Wraith) #15

As much as it would be nice its not going to make the cut for console. Brink 2 maybe.

(tokamak) #16

Yeah too bad, I would call it a case of bad marketing.

(.Chris.) #17

Brink moviemod from Hannes Industries ltd will save the day.

(coolstory) #18

so mod tools will be released when game the game’s released?

(EyeConic) #19

would be nice, but got a cap card anyway, theater mode will just make editing easier for me

(DarkangelUK) #20

I’ve always lobbied for decent demo/capture controls for movie making. It’s free advertising, from the little crappy clip captures to full on well edited movies… anything that helps this is a bonus. I’m not sure what its going to take to get devs to realise this, but proper demo functionality on PC seems to take the back seat for some reason, even though consoles are embracing it full on.
